Katy Perry returned to the Saturday Night Live performance stage last night (Jan 29) for the fourth time. The American Idol judge and pop star is currently headlining her first Las Vegas residency, “PLAY,” at Resorts World Theatre.
Katy Perry brought her colorful stage show to New York City, giving TV audiences a look at the cheeky production.
Katy Perry & Alesso Premiere Robotic “When I’m Gone” Music Video
The first song Katy performed was “When I’m Gone,” a new electro-pop tune co-written with the Swedish DJ, Alesso. Katy sang alongside backup dancers that were portraying toadstools. Except they looked rather, uhm, phallic, and brandishing large white fans festooned with the words “Eat Me.” Her bright orange patent-leather outfit featured strategically placed cutouts that would probably be not safe for primetime.
Katy got serious when she returned to the stage later in the show in a powder-blue feathery skirt. The singer performed the emotional 2019 ballad “Never Really Over” with only a guitarist and a few other musicians on stage with her.
Willem Dafoe hosted the live show amid a major snowstorm that raged all day. However, Katy will be hitting much warmer weather when American Idol tapes the Top 24 rounds in a few weeks with fellow judges Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan and host Ryan Seacrest at the Disney Aulani Resort in Hawaii on February 14 and 15.
Meanwhile, the next leg of Katy’s Vegas residency begins on March 2. The singer recently added additional PLAY dates in May and June.
