Katy Perry causes a scene at the King’s Coronation
Despite it being the King’s coronation, it’s ostensibly King Charles III and his family’s big day, all eyes weren’t necessarily on them at all times. American Idol judge Katy Perry managed to go viral on their big day.
Both Katy and fellow judge Lionel Richie attended the coronation on Saturday (May 6) at Westminster Abbey ahead of the coronation concert on Sunday (May 7) where the two will perform.

Wearing a lilac colored dress and hat designed by Vivien Westwood, a clip surfaced on social media that showed her wandering around the ceremony, accompanied by British Vogue editor Edward Enninful, looking for her seat. She seemed a tad confused!

Later, she tweeted, not to worry! She found her seat.

And that’s not all! As she was leaving the ceremony, poor Katy almost wiped out on sidewalk slicked with rain. That had toe potential to be really embarrassing.

On her social media, Katy posted photos of her coronation ensemble. THAT HAT IS GIGANTIC. No wonder she had trouble staying balanced. She wrote in the caption, “Was such an honor to be able to watch history being made today at the coronation of King Charles III!” Katy continued, “I am so grateful to have been invited by The King on behalf of the @thebritishasiantrust and their Children Protection Fund, an organization I’ve deeply believed in and have been fortunate to support for the last 3 years.”
Meanwhile, Lionel, who managed NOT to draw attention on the day, wore a three-piece suit and top hat. Lionel’s connections to the Royal family go back years. He has served as both the First Global Ambassador and the First Chairman of the Global Ambassador Group for the Prince’s Trust, Charles’ charity, since 2019.

Also performing at the coronation concert alongside Katy and Lionel on Sunday will be English pop group Take That, Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli, and Welsh singer Bryn Terfel.
While Lionel and Katy are performing at Windsor Castle Sunday night, American Idol will carry on with their live Coast to Coast episode in Los Angeles. Alanis Morissette and Ed Sheeran will join Luke Bryan on the judges panel. The Top 8 contestants will sing songs from Alanis’s catalog and paired up for duets. After live in episode voting, a Top 5 will be revealed.
Last week, host Ryan Seacrest promised that Katy and Luke would be zooming in from across the pond to say hello. It’ll be after 1 am in London, so let’s see how that goes!
