More television series were canceled on Friday as networks prepare themselves for next week’s advertiser upfronts presentations.
On cable network, MTV, scripted comedy, Faking It ends, notable here because it stars American Idol season 9 singer, Katie Stevens and Rita Volk who play teenagers mistaken as a lesbian couple. The comedy’s May 17 season three finale will now serve as a series finale.
Showrunner Carter Covington attributes the cancellation to poor ratings. To hear Covington tell it, the show’s lackluster ratings are to blame for the cancellation. The series’ most recent episode garnered only 530,000 total viewers with three days of delayed viewing, halving the numbers from it’s lead-in, Awkward.
On the networks, it was NBC’s turn to wield the ax. Undateable, Telenovela, Heartbeat, Crowded and Game of Silence are all dunzo. Telenovela premiered mid-season, while was a freshman series, while Heartbeat, Crowded and Game of Silence were spring series that didn’t take off. Undated began with reasonable numbers as a summer replacement. For it’s 3rd season, NBC moved it to Friday, broadcasting it live. That experiment didn’t work, although the show did amass a loyal social media following.
The FOX drama, Second Chance, has been canceled, while the struggling drama Sleepy Hollow was surprisingly renewed for a fourth season. An X Files renewal remains in the air.
