According to an email from On Camera Audiences, the outfit that fills the American Idol studio audience, Thursday’s results show will not only feature a performance from Colton Dixon, but also a special guest performance from One Republic with Katharine McPhee.
Katharine is the Season 5 runner-up and the current star of the NBC show, Smash. Due to poor ratings, the show has been moved to NBC’s Saturday schedule in order to burn off the rest of its episodes. Smash has not been cancelled officially, but it’s likely Kat will be heading back to Los Angeles for good. She’s working on an album this summer according to her twitter.
Kat and One Republic’s Ryan Tedder have worked together in the past, including on a song from Smash. So, I guess with the musical drama’s ratings in the cellar, NBC won’t be promoting Kat’s career at this time. Katharine–back into the open, loving arms of American Idol. Heh.
