Sugar, Butter, Broadway! Katharine McPhee Is Getting Ready!

Lionel received the UNCF’s Award of Excellence, while Katharine, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Akon, Ledesi and others sang Lionel’s best loved songs.

Katharine handles the song ably, but I’m not gonna lie, the tune is not one of my favorite Lionel Richie songs (dopiest lyrics evah, peeps)

  1. Wow–she did nothing with that song. Her voice sounds good, and she’s beautiful but she has no electricity as a performer at all. When you get a snoozer of a repetitive 80s song like that, you’ve got to rearrange it to build from quiet to big and hop around the stage to get the audience with you. She moved slightly and pointed at Lionel Richie. That’s it.

And she cut her hair again . . . I guess because it’s all burned up from the bleach.

  2. lol ^^ not a whole lot you can do with this song… being that you’re honoring it’s artist, it’s probably best to stick to their melody rather than adding a ton of runs and glory notes. If she had gotten a better song she probably would have performed better.
