The Jimmy Kimmel Live studios are right across the street from the Dolby Theater where the American Idol finale was broadcast earlier this week. Jimmy couldn’t resist conducting a man-in-the-street segment, to see if anybody wandering around Hollywood knew who the current Idol finalists were.
Some folks who were interviewed didn’t have a clue, but were nice enough to pretend that they did in this new “Lie Witness News” segment! Did you know your latest American Idol winner was a serial killer? Or on Serial, whatever the case may be!
Just proving how irrelevant Idol has become in the pop culture landscape, Jimmy namechecks Lee DeWyze as the go to Idol failure. And it gets a laugh. There have been a couple more even worse fails since 2010 when the singer competed. But Lee can take heart in the fact that he’s got the name recognition to be the butt of a joke. Caleb Johnson? Not so much.
PS. Jimmy couldn’t even pronounce Nick Fradiani and Clark Beckham’s names correctly.
