If I Can Dream Ceases Production Until 2011

Simon Fuller’s web show, If I Can Dream has ceased production until 2011.  “Thanks for being a part of Season 1, ”  says a message on the website, “Get ready for Season 2 starting in 2011.

The decision was sudden, as the reaction from house member Kara Killmer reveals. She tweeted last night:

Show’s taking a break for a while. Thanks you guys for be so amazing and supporting us all of this time. I appreciate it more than you know.

WOW. It appears a lot of folks are freaking out a bit. We are too. Look guys it’s nothing personal, we aren’t allowed to disclose a lot.  We are simply taking a break and seeing what we can do to improve on viewership and showcase.

For the time being, the dreamers will be finding alternate living quarters. That’s show biz ya’ll. We’re okay.

This week’s episode should have just gone up on Hulu so you can go watch that. Thanks guys for being so supportive. I really appreciate it. Ya’ll have been there since the beginning.

We’ll see if the show comes back at all in 2011. There was a small, but loyal following that developed since the show began in the winter of 2010.  But it was apparently not big enough to keep the production online.

As for the fate of the housemates?  Alex Lambert, who joined the cast shortly after he was eliminated from American Idol Season 9,   appeared to be on the verge of a label deal.  He may get signed yet. My bet it will be with 19’s new partner, Universal Music Group.

According to Alex’s fansite, the dreamers will have to pay their own way until a decision is made about the future of the show. They also say that Alex is supposed to have a meeting with 19 music execs Wednesday. Alex is supposed to have some type of showcase performance for Yahoo Music.

  2. With everything being stopped dead in its tracks, my guess is the decision Simon Fuller and others will be making isn’t so much how If I Can Dream will continue as whether it will.

  3. I have no doubts that Alex will be signed either with 19 or someone else. The kid is good musically and has a sellable voice and look.

Not at all surprised that they are going on hiatus. Welcome to the entertainment industry.

I hope they don’t bring it back. It was so boring.

    ITA bad reality entertainment.

  5. If they do bring it back, it will be with a brand new cast. I bet it will be more MTV-like, with a house full of crazies and troublemakers and an emphasis on drama.

Plus a ton of free booze and a hot tub :).

If that’s the case, I nominate Josiah Leming as the first housemate. He’s way more interesting and talented than Alex Lambert.

  8. Only thing I know about that show is from reading here that Alex Lambert apparently hated Crystal, which was good enough reason as any for me to not watch a show that I wouldn’t watch anyway.

  9. I think its a good bet that Alex will get signed, shortly. But,as a poster here said,if that deal starts to go down in his meeting Wed.,Alex will be embargoed,so don’t expect any specific word for a time…Also,I tried to watch a little of the show, live, and a couple episodes.Hope it goes away-Sorry Simon F.-this show was poorly conceived, and executed by your production staff…

  10. I didn’t like the show either. I do like that it kept Alex around, however. I hope Alex signs a deal soon!

  11. Only reason I ever watched was to see the american idol’s when they would make an appearance! Other than that it was boring!

  12. Ugh – one of the most boring shows ever, and Alex definitely caused some problems with the people and others because he was too full of himself.
