Idols for Your Holiday

Want the Idols to entertain you throughout the holidays? No problem. You have plenty of Idol holiday music to choose from. I counted. There are over 80 Christmas songs by American Idols available at iTunes, alone.

New this season are singles from Jordin Sparks, “I’ll Be Home For Christmas”  (from the movie, This Christmas), Bucky Covington, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” and Katharine McPhee, “Oh Come All Ye Faithfull”.   Kimberley Locke released Christmas, an album featuring her AC hits (as in, they all reached #1) “Jingle Bells”, “Up On the Housetop” and “Frosty the Snowman”. Mandisa released a 4-song EP, Christmas Joy. Her duet with Matthew West, “Christmas Makes Me Cry” is charting on the Christian and Gospel Billboard charts.

Both Kellie Pickler and Carrie Underwood are featured on this year’s Hear Something Country. Carrie’s contribution, “Do You Hear What I Hear” is only available on the album download, but Kellie Pickler’s “Santa Baby” is available as a single.

More After The Jump…

Idol also-rans are also getting into the holiday spirit. American Christmas features Lisa Lueschner (Season 3 Top 32 contestant) singing “Santa Baby”, Ayla Brown (Season 5 Top 16) performing two songs, “Grown Up Christmas List” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, ” and Frenchie Davis (disqualified from Season 2) belting out her rendition of “Silent Night.”

Speaking of also-rans, that most notorious of Idol “losers”, William Hung released an entire album of Christmas Classics. Or at least they were classics, before he got done with them…

Back to sanity…

A couple of my personal favorites: Elliott Yamin’s soulful This Christmas and Jon Peter Lewis’s Canadian, self-penned holiday hit (seriously, it peaked at #13 in 2005) “It’s Christmas”.

Clay Aiken is on his annual Christmas tour, and he has two popular Christmas offerings, Merry Christmas with Love and the iTunes-only All is Well EP.

Then of course, there is this oldie but goodie from Season 1 and Season 2 contestants, American Idol, The Great Holiday Classics, including holiday favorites from Clay Aiken, Tamyra Gray, Ruben Studdard and Kelly Clarkson.

There’s more…

George Huff, My Christmas EP, was released shortly after the Season 3 tour ended in 2004.

Last season’s compilation, “Breaking for the Holidays” featured 2 Idols. Jon Peter Lewis, singing the Beach Boy inspired “California Christmas” and Vonzell Solomon’s “It’s Going to be a Cold Cold Christmas”. Also, check out Vonzell Solomon singing “Oh Come All Ye Faithful”.

Last, but not least, Season 2’s Josh Gracin puts out a Christmas tune every year. Check out Josh performing “Please Come Home for Christmas”, “Oh Holy Night” and “The Virgin’s Lullaby”.

Oh, the hours you could spend creating an Idols Holiday mix! A perfect project for folks with no lives looking to get into the holiday spirit!

Just kidding. Have a great holiday!
