HDD estimates that Lana Del Rey will top the album charts with 182K in sales. Not too far behind is the new singing sensation from the UK, Sam Smith with 169K. Linkin Park rounds out the top 3 with 114K. We haven’t seen three albums sell over 100K since the week before Christmas. 6 months is a long time to wait.
Idol Judge Jennifer Lopez opens with a relatively disappointing 34K. Phillip Phillips falls out of the top 50.
Ed Sheeran (whose songs became popular on reality singing shows this year) is predicted to open this week with an impressive 175-200K. He released on a Monday and apparently the first day numbers were very good. Danny Gokey is also releasing an album this week, so we may get 1 day predictions for him. I doubt it though because HDD tends to rely on the bigger retailers and albums in Gokey’s genre tend to sell a lot of their albums in Christian book stores which are hard to track.
