Idol Sales News – Week Ending 05/25/14

Billboard reports that Phillip Phillips sophomore album “Behind the Light” debuts with 41K in sales. That’s good enough for 7th on the BB200 giving him his second top 10 album. His previous album, “The World From the Side of the Moon,” opened with 169K (in 4th).

The highest selling album last week was Coldplay’s “Ghost Stories” with 383K. That’s the biggest sales week for 2014. “Ghost Stories” is their 4th number one album, but it is selling a bit down from “Mylo Xyloto” (447K in 2011) and a lot down from earlier albums (“Viva La Vida Or Death and All His Friends” sold 721K in 2008 and “X&Y” sold 737K in 2005). 64% of sales were downloads. Brantley Gilbert opens with 211K topping the country charts and making this the first week in 6 months with two albums selling more than 200K.

Over on the download chart, Idol’s Carrie Underwood’s duet with Nashville Star’s Miranda Lambert’s called “Somethin’ Bad” debuts at number 10 with 107K. BB notes that is the biggest sales week ever for Lambert.

This is the sales thread. Please post numbers as you find them. Thanks!
