Idol Sales News – Week Ending 08/19/12

Taylor Swift looks to top the Hot 100 this week with a very impressive 623K in sales and a first week of airplay out of this world (although she will see a big drop this week as last week’s Tuesday rolls off the charts). “We are Never Getting Back Together” had the best selling week for any song by a female artist on the digital download charts. It has the second best week of any song behind Flo Rida’s “Right Round” back in 2009 (it sold 636K).

How will our Idols do on the charts? What did the opening of “Sparkle” do for the soundtrack? This is the weekly sales chart. Please post the numbers as you find them. Thanks!

ETA: Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Getting Back Together” rises from 72 to No. 1 in its 2nd week. 623 downloads marks the highest one-week digital sales total by a female artist and is second among all acts only to Flo Rida’s “Right Round,” which sold 636,000 the week of Feb. 28, 2009. “Never” becomes Taylor’s fourth No. 1 on the Hot Digital Songs chart.
