Idol Sales News – Week Ending 06/12/11

No sales stats yet (oh, how I miss the days when we got regular SS leaks!), but how about some juicy radio listener stats to keep us amused while we wait? This is the daily numbers thread. Please post them as you find them!

Arbitron released a teaser for their yearly airplay listener report which will be published next week. It is frequently suggested that radio is going the way of the dodo and nobody listens to it anymore. Arbitron would beg to differ. Radio has reversed recent trends and listenership amongst those 12+ years of age have gone up 1.9M this year. The biggest growth was shown in adults aged 18-34.

The number of Persons twelve and older listening to radio each week now reaches an estimated 241.5 million, representing 93.1 percent of all Persons twelve and older.

There have been suggestions around the blog that only poor people who can’t afford an iPod listen to the radio, but again, that appears to be false. While 93.1% of all 12+ Americans listen to the radio at least once a week, the percentage goes up to 96% of people aged 18-49 with a college degree and annual household incomes in excess of $75K.

To arrive at these stats, Arbitron sampled 395, 531 persons aged 12 and older.
