‘Idol’ threat to gospel flick

Members of legendary gospel singer Mahalia Jackson’s estate are aghast that 2004 “American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino has become pregnant by a married man as she prepares to play the Queen of Gospel in the biographical film “Mahalia!”

Producers are also furious with Fantasia, 27, for not telling them about her unexpected pregnancy until she was four months in. “She [initially] claimed that she was putting on weight for the role, ” an insider said.

RCA Records’ Peter Edge and Tom Corson on Why the Label Downsized and its Place in Sony’s Big Picture (Q&A)

The music industry has posted 18 consecutive weeks of positive sales with album sales up 3 percent from 2010 and digital tracks up 11 percent. So after years and years of steady decline, it’s clear why a music exec would happily take this moment to break with the past.

“The path we’ve taken is to refresh RCA, so we’re going to retire those brands, ” Corson tells The Hollywood Reporter in a new interview. “There may be a reason down the line to bring them back, but it’s a clean slate here.”

Dancing’s Maks: Hope Is Sex on a Stick in a Different Way

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t that nervous being one of the last two couples standing there. Hope was really nervous, but I felt like we had a lot of fans and they’re really loyal. I was really calm. I just made fun of Hope for being nervous! It was pretty hilarious. I love how she’s cool as a cucumber during penalty kicks in the World Cup, but she’s sweating bullets standing under a light on a reality show. We’re proud and grateful to be here another week. I think Hope has a huge, exciting fan base with young girls, many of whom are athletic and want to be in sports. She feels like she’s representing for them on their behalf — they’re not one-dimensional, but they’re tough, strong, athletic, feminine and sexy.
