ACM Honors ceremony brings emotion to Ryman – Carrie Underwood did her best not to break down crying onstage Tuesday night during the eighth annual ACM Honors at Ryman Auditorium. Underwood was presented with the Gene Weed Special Achievement award for her charity work, and the moment was just too much for the expectant mom. Her voice broke and she dabbed her eyes as she thanked her husband, Nashville Predators player Mike Fisher, and her team of people whom she said she felt she didn’t get to thank enough. “I was getting misty-eyed sitting in the audience,” Underwood said. “I had all kinds of stuff to say you guys and it’s all gone. I am so honored and so thankful and so blessed.” Kenny Chesney gave Shane McAnally the Academy of Country Music’s songwriter of the year award, and the songwriter had one of the most star-studded tributes of the night. Kelly Clarkson, Kacey Musgraves and Hillary Scott lined up on stage and took turns singing McAnally’s hits. Lady Antebellum’s Scott performed the trio’s hit “Downtown,” Kelly Clarkson belted out her “Tie It Up” and Musgraves strapped on a banjo to sing “Merry Go ’Round.” – Read more at The Tennessean
