Season 3 Finalist Jon Peter Lewis took some time off from the road to share his thoughts from the Salt Lake City auditions. He was there hanging with the auditioners — you’ll even see him doing some interviews for americanidol.com later this summer/fall! He was also in Salt Lake to celebrate the release of his second album, Break The Silence, which hit stores on July 22nd.

Don’t miss his take on the Salt Lake experience, and, if you’re heading to the Kansas City auditions, you might just see him there, too!

Salt Lake City Audition by JonPeterLewis

I was at the Salt Lake audition earlier this week and Ive finally had enough breathing room to sit down and write out some of my thoughts on the experience. Sorry it comes to you a couple days after the fact. But, before I go on I want to answer the million doll-hair question from the last blog. ¦Drum roll ¦ Catalan. It a provincial language in Barcelona, Spain. I lived there for a couple of years and picked up a few words. Congrats to Artslvr for being the official smarty-pants J.

Ok, so back to the audition. I was feeling a little nostalgic as I pulled up and saw the thousands of people waiting around the energy solutions center. I havent been back to a line like that since I auditioned in Honolulu and I had forgotten how much nervous energy is in the air. For most people it the first time they encounter multiple camera crews and producers trying to energize them. So, while everyone is doing their best to keep their cool, they all try to reassure themselves that they really are the next American Idol.

David Archuleta’s ‘Crush’ Debuts; American Idol’s Runner-Up Issues Single

David Archuleta, the runner-up on “American Idol” in Season 7 debuted the first single, “Crush, ” from his upcoming album on New York City’s Z100 radio station on Friday morning, August 1, according to MyFoxNational Reports.

Archuleta told DJ Elvis Duran, when asked if he’d gotten much sleep knowing his single was debuting, “Not too much. I just couldn’t wait, I was so jittery last night. We had a show last night in Newark and I was just still so pumped up.” In fact, people were in the studio as late as Thursday night putting finishing touches on the new single.

“Crush, ” for those who have not heard the song, is Archuleta at his husky, breathy best. It is a simple pop song, but it works simply on the power of Archuleta’s vocals. And all those screaming girls and avid fans that voted again and again for the teenager on his run on “American Idol” are going to love it.

David Archuleta Wants to Make the Girls Swoon

ONE-LISTEN VERDICT: I finally “got” David Archuleta when he performed “Apologize” with OneRepublic on the American Idol finale. Not that I’m a big fan of that song, but its breathy, wistful feel allowed the timbre of Archie’s voice to shine through a lot better than any of the big quasi-inspirational tracks his father saddled him with during the initial weeks of the competition. Whoever is putting together his debut album must feel the same way, as “Crush” is a laid-back, dreamy ballad in the vein of “Apologize” and “Tattoo.” Archie even slips in some falsetto, as if to further make his combined fanbase of 12-year-olds and their mothers swoon in unison.

Jennifer Hudson refuses to talk about album cover

Earlier this week, I heard about V-103 hosting a Jennifer Hudson …Soul Sessions, a special concert for V-103 listeners Friday night at Sugar Hill in Underground Atlanta.

The folks at V-103 were kind enough to set aside a few minutes for me and other media tonight at 8 p.m. before her public appearance to promote her new album. A chipper, always lovely Elle Duncan escorted me into the green room. All was fine until 7:45 p.m. when Nicole Sellers, the J Records rep for Hudson, arrived. She said three of us would have her for 10 minutes. No problem, I said.

But she then said: you cant ask Jennifer 1) about her album cover or 2) about her personal life. I hate when publicists place any restrictions on interview questions. I can grit my teeth and deal with the personal life question restriction. It still bull because she can always say, …I dont talk about my personal life. The first restriction is what really raised my hackles.

Broadway dilemma: TV or not TV? Will small-screen stars get Broadway’s vote?

You may not know what a Danity Kane is, or where on the map to find O-Town. But Broadway is starting to find out.

As pop stars spawned by reality TV appear on Broadway with increasing frequency, producers are finding that some demos — particularly teenage females — can be tapped by performers largely unheard of by the wider public.

Some legiters sneer that casting from the reality pool is the latest example of the industry’s growing commercialism. And, they lament, things are getting even more crass as Broadway producers follow the West End’s lead by creating their own shows to search for stars.

And there’s another minor consideration: Yes, many reality alums have proven they can sing. But can they act?

Exclusive Interview: Mark Kanemura of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’

He may not necessarily think so but Mark Kanemura was quite the underestimated dancer this season on So You Think You Can Dance. He didn’t have a built in fan base from last season the way Twitch did. He didn’t have a big name choreographer backing him the way Will did. He didn’t start off this season with memorable routines the way Josh did. Yet, Mark brought something to the table that kept him alive through much of this competition: he was unique. His individuality was a quality his fans appreciated and they catapulted him all the way to Top 6 before he was eliminated on last night’s episode. Today, he spoke to BuddyTV in an exclusive interview about the tour, his partner, and living in a bubble for the last few months.

So You Think You Can Dance Final Four

So it’ll be the Contemporary girls versus the Hip Hop guys in the finale. I was pretty surprised about the results for the girls. I thought it was going to be Courtney to go this week, not Chelsie. I don’t recall Chelsie being in the bottom yet. With the guys it could have been either Mark or Twitch. I think it would have been more interesting, and there would have been more variety, had Chelsie and Mark danced against Katee and Joshua — no one can dance Latin like Chelsie and Mark — but this’ll still be good fun. Even though Joshua and Twitch are both Hip Hop guys, they have completely different dance personalities. It’s only one week, but I’ll still miss Mark and Chelsie: I think Chelsie’s probably the most versatile Latin dancer ever to be on the show, and I predict Mark, with his originality, has a very promising future. I could see him thriving in many different dance companies, like the fascinating (but not well-enough known!) Misnomer or the famous Pilobolus. And I can eventually see him choreographing.

‘So You Think You Can Dance’: Missing the Mark

Well, hell. I read several different So You Think You Can Dance final four combinations yesterday in the message boards ‘ along with Katee and Joshua, I saw Mark and Chelsie, Twitch and Chelsie, and Mark and Courtney ‘ but I don’t know that I saw a single one that included Twitch and Courtney. Of course, watch, like, seven of you post immediate corrections to the contrary, but, honestly, that particular quartet would’ve jumped out at me ‘ like, say, the person who was so over Katee and Joshua and rooting instead for Twitch, Mark, Courtney, and Chelsie.
