Taylor Hicks looks back to ‘American Idol’ days, forward to new album as he readies for Schaeffer CityFest – Hicks has been spending time with family and friends, playing a little golf, eating barbecue at Saw’s Juke Joint (he’s a partner in the restaurant) and … oh, yes, filming a pilot for a TV show.
“I’m really excited about shooting in town, and I was really hungry doing it,” Hicks says. “That’s all I can say about that.” The singer’s also been on the road to Nashville, where he’s been developing an album with producer Mickey Jack Cones. At least one single from the project will be released in the fall, Hicks says, showcasing a country-soul sound. He declines to be specific about themes, arrangements or titles, but says “if Jackson Browne and Zac Brown had a baby, this would be it.” Hicks also mentions the enduring influence of classic artists from Muscle Shoals, especially Eddie Hinton. – Read more at AL.com
