You could say Jason Castro is on top of the world, except the former American Idol finalist was relaxing on a beach in Florida when I talked to him this week, his first break in quite a while, he said.

“Sons of Sylvia on tour with Carrie Underwood.” – Interview

I’ve listened to more music in 2010 than ever. I’ve heard some really good music too. I’ve liked a lot of what I’ve heard. I’m constantly being sent new music to review so a lot of times I only get to listen to an album once or twice and even if I like it, I have to move on to the next. Listening to music is a lot more work than I thought it’d be, however, when I go on a long road trip I still like to listen to music for pleasure.

I found myself popping in Sons of Sylvia’s album “Revelation.” As soon as front man Ashley Clark goes into the second chorus of “John Wayne” I’m hooked for the rest of the album. The crazy thing is I’m more of a metal head. Korn and Rob Zombie have new albums out this year, but there is something about Sons of Sylvia that I really like. I recently chatted with Ashley Clark and Adam Clark of Sons of Sylvia.

‘So You Think You Can Dance’: Wha?

I feel like I’ve been a little shortchanged over the last three Thursdays. Well, that’s not entirely true: “SYTYCD” results shows have been delivering some wonderful dance performances (and some OK musical performances), but are we ever going to get a regular elimination, one where the solos actually mean something?

The episode kicked off with a great group number to “All That Jazz” with guest choreographer Lea DeLaria. I liked the Fosse-esque moves combined with the rather grubby, old-fashioned styling and set design of the piece, along with the toned-down version of the song. The dancers reminded me a bit of scrappy street performers, in a good way, of course.

Kelly Clarkson: I’m Too Scared To Talk To Cowell

She was asked during an interview who she would call, send a text message to or reject if she discovered she had missed a call from Simon, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul – who were also on the judging panel when Kelly won the first season of American Idol.

Kelly revealed she would send Paula a text message and call Randy back, meaning she would have to give Simon the cold shoulder.

“I don’t really want to reject Simon. Maybe I would reject and call him back later, I would probably be nervous about what his call was about, ” she admitted to British television show Hot Desk.

AMERICAN IDOL singers: Send a net. Save a life.

I had the amazing opportunity to go work with 2010 AMERICAN IDOL runner ups Tim Urban, Katie Stevens, and Aaron Kelly a couple weeks ago before they started up their summer tour around the U.S. I traveled to Auburn Hills, Michigan, to spend the day with the IDOL contestants and film a short public service announcement for the UN Foundation’s Nothing But Nets™. AMERICAN IDOL will be showing this video at every one of their concerts this summer! (See if they’re coming to a city near you: http://www.americanidol.com/tour)
