Idol Headlines for 7/20/10 – The Evening Edition

‘Idol’ hopefuls to line up for their shots at stardom

People have been registering for their chance at stardom since 5 a.m. Monday. And if Nashville’s turnout last week of more than 16, 000 contestants is any indication, downtown Milwaukee, the second stop on the audition circuit for the popular Fox program, is going to be really buzzing – and humming, and singing and strumming – Wednesday morning.

The doors to the Bradley Center are to open at 7:30 a.m., although contestants have been told to start lining up at 5 a.m. Those who haven’t registered but are still interested in auditioning can do so through about 8 a.m.

Also, Milwaukee native and third-place Season 8 “Idol” contestant Danny Gokey will be at the auditions, as will Matt Giraud, a Michigan native who took fifth place in the same season.

Local fans rally for ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ star Billy Bell!

“I don’t think anyone was more heartbroken than I was, ” admits Bell, 20, who had to drop out of the show at the very beginning of the competition when he was diagnosed with mono. Although he had taken a break from his studies at the Juilliard School to do the show and was understandably disappointed, the setback “made me want to work harder. At the same time, watching the season didn’t hurt at all because I still had my family of dancers on the show. It was great just to watch them go through that tough experience. And now, I have an even bigger family.”

And that’s because Bell, of Loxahatchee Groves, is back on the show this season, preparing Wednesday to dance his heart out in order to stay in the competition. Across the country and back here at home, his friends and family are rallying to keep him in the mix. He relies on that support, he says.
