American Idol Season 9 alum, Siobhan Magnus singing Backups for Boston – Siobhan’s uncle is the bassist for the 70s rock group, Boston. She’s been on the road with them singing backups. From a Pittsburgh concert review “A late-set surprise was the appearance of Siobhan Magnus, niece of bassist Tracy Ferrie and one of the most underrated of the “American Idol” alums. Her high-pitched screams on “Walk On” shot it to another level of hyperspace. – Post-Gazette

‘Idol’ tour brings Bradenton’s Woolf home – Bradenton teenager Sam Woolf says he grew up watching “American Idol” and now he’s living a dream come true, singing on the “American Idol Live!” tour. Last summer, he took a course at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and was selected to perform in a singer-songwriter showcase. While in Boston, he auditioned for “American Idol.” He was accepted at Berklee, but that might be put on hold because of his “Idol” success. “I want to go to California or Nashville and perform my music and see what happens,” he says. – Read more at TBO.com

Scientists name Puerto Rico water mite after JLo – SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) – Pop singer Jennifer Lopez may be thinking life is funny after a group of scientists named a water mite in her honor after discovering a new species near Puerto Rico. The music of the Bronx, New York-born entertainer who has Puerto Rican roots was a hit with the group while they wrote about their findings, biologist Vladimir Pesic said in an email Wednesday. “The reason behind the unusual choice of name for the new species is … simple: J.Lo’s songs and videos kept the team in a continuous good mood when writing the manuscript and watching World Cup Soccer 2014,” said Pesic, who works at the University of Montenegro. – Read more at The Associated Press
