Concert Review: American Idol Live In Concert

The American Idol 2008 Summer Tour is a family-friendly musical extravaganza that gives Idol fans a chance to see the top-ten contestants in person. All in all, the show is great for kids who are going to their first concert. But it’s also pretty much an enjoyable experience for anyone who is a fan of the popular TV show.

I caught the show in Tacoma, WA on July 12th, which was only the ninth show of their 50+ dates around the country. The show is a mixed bag of musical styles as well as a series of high and lows as far the performances go. It’s a fascinating examination to see which of these performers truly have the makings to rise to the next level beyond reality-show contestant. I also had the opportunity to chat with several of the Idols before the concert, which gave me further insight into how each of them approached the concert.

Review: Archuleta receives hero’s welcome back in Utah in ‘American Idol LIVE!’ tour stop

WEST VALLEY CITY – David Archuleta told The Salt Lake Tribune earlier in the day that he usually avoids dairy because it makes his throat “phlegmy.”
The Murray teen must have had a lactose-free Monday as he provided the vocal highlights, and the most screams from tweens and soccer moms alike, at the first of two “American Idol LIVE!” shows at the E Center.
The tour features the top-10 finalists of the most recent season of the FOX TV juggernaut. Each finalist is given three songs to sing, with second-place finisher Archuleta getting four songs and winner David Cook five songs. Group numbers are limited this year, with a mid-show U2 song and the show’s closer, Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop the Music.”

Chris Daughtry Visits ‘the Past’ With Sevendust

Sevendust has chosen “The Past” as the second single from the band’s latest album, Chapter VII: Hope and Sorrow. The track features a guest vocal appearance from Chris Daughtry, a Sevendust fan and friend since before he was catapulted to fame as an American Idol contestant. Sevendust singer Lajon Witherspoon told us how the collaboration happened: “Couldn’t believe it, such a genuine guy. Over a year, you know, got to really know him, said, ‘Man, we should do a song together.’And we had the opportunity to do this, he happened to be in town, the kids were running around…Daughtry actually asked me, could he watch me do the vocals, and we did the same thing. Eatin’pizza, drinkin’cold beers, everything was relaxed and it was very fun. He’s kept a head on his shoulders with the avenue that he’s been able to take, and it’s a blessing for him. We’re very proud of him.”

“The Past” will officially head to rock radio stations later this month.

Canadian Idol Recap: The Results – Ch-Ch-Changes

As we meet the judges, it’s good to see that Zack was able to get all of his eye makeup from Monday night off. I’m impressed. We don’t get their opinions, but flashback to the performance show. When we get back we have the obligatory group number. It was great to see Mookie and Earl do Fame (with Drew on drums); that was a great song choice.

And then Ben tells us as we go to commercial at Jully Black will be back when we get back from the break (and no, he doesn’t tell us what she will be doing). Before we get to Jully, we get the normal CTV promo with stars from Flashpoint in the audience. Then we go to a tape of Jully from the night before, where she was supposedly supporting the competitors. I don’t know, to me it just seems like she’s doing the job of a confessional camera, instead of Idol Confidential from last season, they talk to her, but whatever.

Sophie Zalokar: I felt “very disrespected” by ‘Nashville Star’ judge Jewel

Sophie Zalokar admits rolling her eyes at Jewel was a rude thing to do, however she feels the Nashville Star sixth-season judge was also guilty of being disrespectful.

“I felt very disrespected, ” Zalokar told reporters during a Tuesday conference call.

“My reaction to her disrespecting us was to roll my eyes. At the time, I didn’t realize I was doing it. It just kind of happened. I did apologize to her for it. But I also feel that maybe she should have apologized to us for disrespecting us in that way. You can’t disrespect someone and then expect respect back.”

The incident in question occurred during last Monday night’s Nashville Star sixth-season broadcast.
