Idol Headlines For 6/30/08

Brooke White, Jason Castro bring their down-to-earth sparkle to town for ‘Idol’ tour

Season 7 of “American Idol” came down to The Battle of the Two Davids, but it also offered engaging personalities in Brooke White and Jason Castro.

White, 25, was the sunny, chatty, vulnerable one from Van Nuys. The one-time nanny could flash a smile as bright as Goldie Hawn’s and, with her flowing gold locks, carried the aura of a ’60s flower child. She also wore her emotions on her sleeve, sometimes looking nervous and teary-eyed before the judge’s pronouncements. No other finalist this year lived so much on the edge.

Castro, 21, was a construction science major at Texas A&M University. He cast a mellow, goofy demeanor (and, hey, he himself says he is kind of goofy) with his long dreadlocks and looks of a young John Travolta. And the young female fans swarmed as if he were a young John Travolta. He could appear befuddled or delightfully self-aware. You had to chuckle when, asked the biggest obstacle to overcome this season, Castro said: “The brain being dead.”

Stacey grew up in an atmosphere of faith, family, and music. His grandfathers, father, and father-in-law dedicated their lives to the ministry. His father played the trumpet and keyboard professionally. His mother encouraged him to sing in church.

So You Think You Can Dance 4. In a conference call with media, Chelsea talked about her experience on the show and revealed the details behind why her dance partner joked that she was a flower thief.

When asked to explain stealing flowers, Chelsea Traille said, …Well, Im Jamaican and I just love beautiful flowers and it kind of just started. Basically it was kind of a joke. But I love having fresh flowers and like being away from home, the apartment just was kind of dull. So, one day we all went on a walk to the grocery store and we passed all these beautiful flowers and I said, let take some flowers.

Some of my favorite So You Think You Can Dance routines

At first, I was a little disappointed with this season’s So You Think You Can Dance. I found most of the routines underwhelming. Furthermore, Mary and Nigel constantly telling us that it’s the “best dancers they’ve ever had” and the most “competition they’ve ever seen” is a red flag. I think most viewers, those with dance training and without, know what they like and why they like it. And viewers don’t like being told they should like something.
