Phillips prepares for auction at pawn shop – ALBANY, GA (WALB) – After 24-years of owning an east Albany pawn shop made famous on American Idol, the father of music star Phillip Phillips says it’s time to retire. Donnie Phillips has held several auctions over the past few of years to try to clear out items in the store. He says now everything at Albany Sporting Goods and Pawn Shop must go, including the building itself. “We just tired, I’m older, and I want to spend more time with my kids and my grand kids,” said Donnie Phillips, Owner of Albany Sporting Goods and Pawn Shop. “I got a new grand baby coming.” “He’s told me to go ahead and sale all kinds of things like I said that we haven’t been able to sale in the past,” said Tony Pearson, with Pearson Auction Company. “So. I’m expecting it to be a good sale.” Phillips will hold an auction at the business in the 1700 block of East Ogelthorpe tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. It will include three guitars signed by his son along with guns, tools, jewelry and more. Ray Davies, Donovan and Graham Gouldman Among Those Inducted Into Songwriters Hall of Fame – Ray Davies, Donovan, Graham Gouldman, Mark James and Jim Weatherly were all inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame on Thursday night at the organization’s 45th Annual Induction and Awards Dinner at the New York Marriott Marquis. American Idol season 12 winner Candice Glover gave a striking performance of Jim Weatherly’s “Midnight Train to Georgia” before inducting the songwriter, who then performed “Neither One of Us.” The songwriter and former college quarterback said he “never dreamed he would be inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.” – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter
Kellie Pickler Working on Her Fifth Studio Album – Kellie Pickler seems surprised to be looking ahead to her fifth studio album. “That’s weird to say,” she says. “Five!” The process has just begun, but that doesn’t mean she’s not hard at work. The ‘Little Bit Gypsy’ singer spent the morning hours before she talked to Taste of Country sorting through the possibilities. “It’s crazy, you’ll listen to a thousand songs before you find that one that’s right for you,” she says. So, did she find it? “I found two today that I love, but who knows. It’s still so early. NBC Developing Event Series About The Beatles From ‘The Tudors’ Team – EXCLUSIVE: The team that brought to the small screen the story of King Henry VIII is taking on another English royalty, this time in the world of rock & roll. I have learned that NBC is in early stages of development of an eight-episode event series about the Beatles that would tell the story of the greatest band of all time. The series will be written by The Tudors creator/executive producer silvermanhirstweinbergMichael Hirst who will executive produce with Tudors executive producers Ben Silverman and Teri Weinberg. The project reunites the trio with NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt, who greenlighted The Tudors while he ran Showtime. The Beatles limited series is part of NBC’s push in event programming area that includes live productions like The Sound Of Music, miniseries like Rosemary’s Baby, and limited series like the 12-part Bible follow-up A.D. – Read more at Deadline.com
