Fuller is empty on ‘Idol’

The bidding process for CKX Inc. is starting to look like an “American Idol” audition — as one strong contestant is now out while another dark horse is suddenly back in the action.

According to two sources, Simon Fuller’s bid is no longer in play for the “American Idol” franchise owner.

A rep for Fuller said he was in the UK and unavailable for comment.

Separately, former CKX Chairman and CEO Robert Sillerman, who stepped down on May 7 and holds 21 percent of the stock, is in discussions with a private financing source to make an offer to the current CKX team led by Michael Ferrel.

Jordin Sparks takes a breath, talks of life as overnight star

It’s been more than three years since Jordin Sparks was crowned the Season 6 winner of “American Idol, ” but she still remembers the coronation like it was yesterday.

“Right before, I was real calm, ” recalls Sparks, 20, the youngest “Idol” champ. “I was like, ‘I’ll be OK with whatever happens. Just to get this far was amazing.’

“But (host Ryan Seacrest) said my name and my hands flew up to my face, and all I could hear was my heart pounding – I saw people clapping, but I couldn’t hear it. Ryan hands me the microphone… and I couldn’t remember the words to the song. But it was divine intervention: I started singing. And the words were so relevant to my life at that moment, it was like ‘ This is my now – I get to do this!’ Then all of a sudden, I was finished.

Daughtry Schools Rock Bands Everywhere

When Daughtry took the stage, the now almost full arena was on their feet screaming. A nice intro buildup, the Batman movie theme, with the band behind a lit up white curtain covering the stage to eventually start the set with “Every Time You Turn Around “ to get the crowd on their feet and trying to beat out the tayler swift fans for the loudest fans of the year.

Everything about this production was something to talk about. With the backgrounds changing to represent a timeline of the concert (first background being the Daughtry logo and the last being a guy walking into the sunset to represent the end, to the lighting, with blues, pinks, reds, lasers and spotlights – never overpowering one another to light up the stage perfectly, to the audio being better then a CD, “Live” quality without any issues typically experienced with concerts in larger venues, everything was put in motion for what could be concert of the year.

Daughtry has ‘a big rock show’ for Portland

Chris Daughtry had the kind of chart-busting immediate success that rarely happens in music these days, selling more than a million copies of his 2006 self-titled CD in the first five weeks of its release and going on to rack up nearly 4.5 million copies sold overall.

It was quite a statement for Daughtry, who, despite being one of the most popular performers on the 2006 season of “American Idol, ” finished fourth.

Not only did his run on the show prime the pump for the release of his first CD fronting his band, Daughtry, it seemingly would have given him a taste of the life he was about to experience as one of the most popular artists on the rock scene.

Ellen’s wit leads a quick-moving ‘Special’

The sparkly-eyed dancing queen of accessible, self-deprecating chic kicked off the Just For Laughs festival Wednesday night at the Chicago Theatre with her latest “Somewhat Special Special, ” replete with everything from the Blackhawks to quick-change artists to country band Lady Antebellum to blacklit pingpong.

The main aim was 42 minutes of TV for TBS. Along with a genial, laudably fast-moving, between-takes party for Chicago, “a place, ” Ellen DeGeneres claimed, “founded by wagon-trail people who gave up halfway.”

‘So You Think You Can Dance’: Dancing with the all-stars

Tonight was the return of live programming on “SYTYCD” and also the debut of the show’s new competition format: the contestants each draw a genre from a hat and then perform with said genre’s corresponding all-star. The episode got off to a bit of a rough start as the dancers were introduced and the camera couldn’t decide where to be: way far in the back or right next to the dancers, never exactly focusing on them. Fortunately, things settled down after that.

‘SYTYCD’s’ Ashley Galvan professes love for Jared Murillo

After the show, Galvan revealed the identity of her love: boyfriend of little over a year, ballroom dancer Jared Murillo.

If that name rings a bell, then chances are you’re a “High School Musical” — or boy band V Factory — fan, as he’s appeared in all three “HSM” movies. He also famously dated another Ashley, Ashley Tisdale, for two years.

Thank-you party fetes donors, volunteers

ELLISTON — For 14 weeks, members of Trinity United Church of Christ had fun and fellowship while they followed their “American Idol” star, local singer Crystal Bowersox.

Bowersox was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes as a child, and she asked that any money raised in conjunction with these gatherings be donated to groups that raised awareness about the disease.

She got her wish.

On Wednesday, they held a party to thank the donors and to give money to charities. Judge Kathleen Giesler, who emceed the event, announced $40, 000 had been raised by the “TLC” group — the Trinity Ladies Club — alone.

‘So You Think You Can Dance’ recap: Dancing With the Stars

About three years ago, I took the subway to Madison Square Garden, where a cat show was hosting an adoption event. I hurried in the front door of the venue, and immediately found myself surrounded by adorable, squeeze-worthy kittens. Big kittens, little kittens, frisky kittens, loving kittens — how on Earth could I possibly decide which one to support and take home with me? Couldn’t I have them all? (Because, of course, my goal as a girl in New York is to transform myself into the ultimate cliché.)

Picking out a kitten for myself that day was one of the hardest decisions I ever made — until I tried to choose a favorite from last night’s So You Think You Can Dance. Seriously, guys. Throughout the two-hour show, we saw powerful dancers, subtle dancers, flexible dancers, dancers who just made us laugh. Tell me, fellow SYTYCD lovers, how can we possibly decide which one to back for the entire season?
