I was like a ninja,” Jena jokes backstage after her friend (and prom date) Caleb Johnson took home the Season 13 title. She continues, “This has been such a great launching pad for me and the fact that I did get this far, it’s just such an honor. ‘American Idol’ doesn’t just teach you how to be a good singer; they teach you how to be a good performer and good with press and to dress you well and to know how to speak. Phillip Phillips Offers Sage Advice to Caleb Johnson and Jena Irene

Said Phillip of Behind the Light: “It just has a lot more personality [than the first album], a lot more growth to it. I got to spend more time on it. It’s just me, from start to finish, so people just gotta listen to it.”
“Make sure you’re proud of it. That’s what I did with both albums. Make sure you’re proud of it and it’s something that you want to sing for the rest of your life, because once you put it out there, you gotta do it. I mean, you don’t have to; there’s some songs I don’t want to play sometimes and that I won’t play. But you gotta make sure you love it.
