Clarkson’s ready to grow in a ‘Heartbeat’ – Invincible was the last song recorded for Piece by Piece, one of just two Clarkson cut after giving birth. Shatkin e-mailed her a demo of the song, saying he wanted her to hear it, even though he knew she had finished recording. “I e-mailed him back and said I hated him because it was so good that I was going to have to go back into the studio,” she says. Clarkson says she considered making Invincible a duet with her and Sia, “but her record’s out at the same time and we’re on the same label.” Instead, she kept Sia’s backing vocals on the track. “We have very different voices, so it rubbed really nicely,” she says. “I kept hers, then I did all the same things and blended them together. I wanted it to sound like a swarm of vocals.” – Read more at USA Today

Kelly Clarkson Talks ‘Since U Been Gone,’ Going Country and Upbeat New LP – Does it affect the way you approach music, knowing that your fans probably also listen to all sorts of different music? Yeah, and especially how I came into the industry, people are used to me singing different genres, just from American Idol 13 years ago. That’s enabled me to be able to sing something with Jason Aldean and then do something like “Run Run Run” on the new album, that’s a little more R&B/pop, but then it goes into this really rockin’ place at the end. But I think my fan base is really cool in the sense that they follow me and let me do that. I guess the same thing for people like P!nk who just came out something with Dallas [Green, for folk side-project You+Me]. Even Gaga doing the Sound of Music thing she just did on the Oscars. – Read more at Rolling Stone

Carrie Underwood is the newest threat to Adidas – The country pop star’s announcement that she will partner with Dick’s Sporting Goods DKS 0.40% to exclusively sell a line of fitness apparel didn’t create a ton of buzz when it was first announced in December. Retailers strike these sorts of exclusive arrangements all the time, angling to differentiate themselves from the pack by selling wares no other retailer has in stock. And Underwood isn’t the first celebrity to tackle this business (actress Kate Hudson also has an athletic gear line). But what is unusual is who will lose out when Dick’s adds Underwood’s Calia line to its shelves this week: the second largest athletic apparel brand in the world. Chief Executive Edward Stack said the retailer would be pulling shelf space from Adidas and Reebok (also owned by Adidas) to make room for Calia. Dick’s said the Calia launch, a move to address the red-hot women’s athletic gear market, is the big initiative it has planned for this year. The launch kicks off on Thursday and should help contribute to a 1% to 3% projected increase in same-store sales for the year. – Read more at Fortune.com

Lynch’s character is described as larger-than-life, brassy and flamboyant, and when she claims to be a guardian angel, Allison can’t decide if she’s actually an angel or if she’s just plain nuts. – Read more at Variety
