Phil Stacey Blog: Last stops on the audition road

As we enter the last night of auditions, I feel like I have a pretty good idea of a few faces we will see for weeks to come. That being said, remember that there is always an underdog story. The early front-runner NEVER wins. After my audition for Season 6, nobody could have predicted that I would be in the Top 6. Most critics were surprised to see me in the Top 24! But I showed the judges something during Hollywood week that I was unable to while under the pressure of auditions.

‘American Idol’ recap: Livin’ la Vida Broke-down

True confessions time: I turn into a little bit of a crazy person whenever I’m in the passenger seat of a car. I liberally press the imaginary brake. Heading into sharp curves, I shout nonsense like ”beware the yellow arrows of danger!” And don’t even get me started on what happens when the gas gauge starts creeping into the danger zone.

Four judges is one too many for ‹Idol

Of all the changes announced for the eighth season of “American Idol, ” perhaps none was more hotly debated ahead of time than the addition of songwriter Kara DioGuardi as a fourth judge.

With three weeks of auditions now in the can, we’ve finally had the opportunity to view the wisdom or folly of that decision. And if the first nine hours of the new season are any indication, four judges is too damn many

David Osmond Brings Family’s Musical Legacy To ‘American Idol’

This year’s “American Idol” has already seen the passing of the torch from Jason to Michael Castro, the first legacy to make it to Hollywood. But during the Utah auditions that aired on Wednesday night, the program got what might be its first bona fide à ¼ber-ringer, David Osmond.

The Provo, Utah, native is the son of Alan Osmond, the eldest brother of the squeaky-clean Osmond singers, best known for their tight harmonies, wholesome family values and the “Donny & Marie” variety show of the 1970s.

Why Megan Corkrey Wont Win ‹American Idol

On last night Mormon-fueled …American Idol auditions in Salt Lake City, we got an Osmond, a tone-deaf Goth girl, a whole bunch of toothsome white people, one heartwarming hippie trainwreck and, without a doubt, my favorite contestant of the season: Megan Corkrey, a gorgeous, newly single mom with a mean sleeve of tattoos and a voice that ‘ to borrow a phrase from former New York Times music critic Kalefa Sanneh ‘ sounds like …carved steam.

Idol Worship: Catching Up With David Archuleta

David Archuleta within driving distance? We’re there! Since Archie was back in Hollywood last weekend to shoot a performance for the Nickeleodeon hit show iCarly, we decided to pop by the set and catch up with last season’s American Idol runner-up. We arrived to to find David and iCarly star Miranda Cosgrove knee-deep in taping promos for his guest-starring role (airing Feb. 7), which can only be described as moments of acute awkwardness. Kelly Clarkson: Her new video does NOT suck! (Nor do the five other tracks that we’ve heard!)

If you happen to wander past my office at any point during the day, odds are you’ll hear Kelly Clarkson’s infectious new single, “My Life Would Suck Without You, ” playing. (Or “Elevator” from the new Pussycat Dolls album. Judge away, PopWatchers. I certainly would.) But Clarkson fans like me can rejoice because the former American Idol just released the new video for her hit single (which has broken records by leaping to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart). Basically, a less angry “Since U Been Gone, ” the video has Kelly playfully arguing with a very hot fella. Who are you, sir? Maybe we should do introductions over drinks?

But there’s even more fun to come: I heard five tracks from Clarkson’s album, All I Ever Wanted, and it’s thankfully more Breakaway than My December. The second single, “I Do Not Hook Up, ” penned by Katy Perry, is a sassy delight and refreshingly prude with its non-promiscuous message. It just made me all the more anxious for the album’s March 10 release date.
