Paul McCartney backs Rage Against The Machine in Christmas Number One race

Paul McCartney has registered his support for Rage Against The Machine in the battle for the Christmas Number One single.

Despite performing on The X Factor with winner Joe McElderry last Sunday (December 18), McCartney said he thinks it would be “kind of funny” if ‘Killing In The Name’ beats McElderry’s ‘The Climb’ to Number One position.

Time Warner cable may drop Fox, along with programs like ‘American Idol, ‘ the NFL; no contract yet

Local Time Warner Cable subscribers may lose “American Idol” and the NFL if Fox and Time Warner Cable can’t come to terms on new contract before the end of the year.

The two media behemoths have gone public with their battle over programming costs, which, could result in some Fox programming – including WNYW/Ch. 5, FX, Fuel, and the Speed Channel – being yanked from Time Warner Cable systems around the country.

Fox Drops the ‘American Idol’ Bomb on ‘Modern Family’

Fox has decided to aim a missile directly at heart of ABC’s young comedy hit “Modern Family.”

The network Friday confirmed that it will move new drama “Human Target” from its originally announced 9 p.m. Wednesday time slot to 8 p.m. Wednesdays. Its replacement: The “American Idol” results show, which had been set to air at 8 p.m. Wednesdays.

“Target” will still get some exposure behind “Idol” for one week, with the Jan. 20 episode airing at 9. But starting Jan. 27, it’ll be “Target” at 8 and “Idol” at 9.

‘American Idol’-Simon Cowell rumors: Is a U.S. version of ‘X-Factor’ on its way?

The persistent rumors that Simon Cowell will jump ship from Idol after the 2010 season hit a fever pitch this week, thanks to a report in the London Times claiming that Cowell is preparing an American version of the hit British talent show series The X Factor. ‘The X Factor is due to begin filming in Los Angeles in September 2011, to be shown on Fox and presented by Cowell, ‘  the Times reports. Fox is denying official comment, so this latest wrinkle could be nothing more than meaningless buzz.

It might be hard for American music fans to comprehend, but the annual race to land the #1 Christmas single in England is a seriously major deal. And typically, the song that wins out is a sappy, cloying ballad full of warm fuzzies that everyone can feel good about at this most stressful time of year.

But Rage Against the Machine have tossed a giant Molotov cocktail into the works this year, igniting a public feud with the man the New Musical Express dubbed “The Grinch” in its current Christmas issue, “American Idol” baddie Simon Cowell.

Once again, our thanks are due to Simon Cowell, the first post-sentient human ‘ not for simply showing us the people we could be, but for planning a lucrative deal with ITV that will make it all happen.

Interviewed on Newsnight this week, Cowell sold his putative new show as “a good way for me to get involved in politics”, with the casual assurance of a man who knows his involvement in politics has long been the optimal outcome for a society seeking heroes it can believe in.

EXCLUSIVE: ‘Glee’ Creator Promises More Musical Numbers

“Glee” creator Ryan Murphy told TheWrap that when it returns from its hiatus on April 13, the show will have even more musical numbers per episode.

“We’ve been averaging five or six songs” per episode in the first 15, he said Thursday before the Hollywood Radio and Television Society’s Hitmakers lunch.

“In the back nine we do an average of eight to 10” songs, he added.

“The back nine is about the regionals competition, ” he continued.
