David Archuleta says he’s humbled to perform with Mormon Tabernacle Choir

SALT LAKE CITY — Teen idol David Archuleta grew up listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

“They’re still one of my most favorites on iTunes, ” he said. “So to be here, performing with them, is like, ‘Wow! Is this really happening?’ ”

For long-time actor and narrator Michael York, it has “already been an extraordinary experience. I’ve been to Salt Lake before, but as an outsider, outside the buildings, outside the experience. To now be an insider, to belong as part of the experience — it’s more than entertainment. There’s a feeling of fellowship, of worship. It has all magically come together. I’m much looking forward to the next three days.”

But that night instead saw him centre stage in a huge television studio nearby — being crowned winner of the first series of the X Factor.

A far bigger prize, you might think, and one that more than justified his decision to decline the overture from an internationally renowned singer.

After all, he had already committed himself to take part in the ITV series when the support request came to his agent.

Really interesting report on the first winner of X Factor UK (2004) who is now reduced to playing coffee shops for free.

…And here’s the companion piece to the Steve Brookstein story!

THE singer is happy to kowtow to SIMON COWELL because he believes he is almost too old to make it in the music industry.

Matt said: “Ending up bending over and taking it from Simon, why not?

“I’m completely aware of what I’m doing, I’m still in contact with my bandmates and they’re congratulating me.”

Matt almost didn’t do the show after discovering a friend had put him up for it.

He admitted: “Honestly, I was, like, head down, cap down, ‘I shouldn’t be here, I shouldn’t be here!’

He tells Aiden Grimshaw, 18, that he’s too young to bend over…
