Scotty McCreery has announced plans to turn his regularly scheduled Nov. 23 concert at New York’s Beacon Theater into a benefit show for victims of Hurricane Sandy. The show, originally billed as “Christmas with Scotty McCreery” (in support of his newly-released holiday album of the same name) is now being tagged as the “Beacon Theater Benefit for Hurricane Sandy Relief.” McCreery will donate a portion of the ticket sales to the charity World Vision’s Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. McCreery has invited his friend and fellow “American Idol” fan favorite Pia Toscano—a native New Yorker—to join him onstage at the Beacon. – Read more at MSN.com

David Cook – An idol comes home – Blue Springs, MO — When David Cook was growing up, he wanted to play the drums. However, his mother told him no, forcing him to turn his attention to the guitar. “I don’t think it turned out too bad,” said the 2008 “American Idol” winner of the decision. “But this is not the kind of stuff you think about when you start playing the guitar.” Cook, a 2001 graduate of Blue Springs South High School, was honored Tuesday at another one of his former schools – Thomas Ultican Elementary. The driveway leading into the school from Vesper Street was renamed David Cook Alumni Way, in honor of one of Blue Springs’ most famous residents. “This is an incredible honor,” he said of the recognition. “Words escape me. It is not something I had in my head growing up, so it is such a huge honor to have this happen.” – Read more at Examiner.net

Carrie Underwood, ‘Two Black Cadillacs’ – Lyrics Uncovered – Some of her biggest hits to date include her windy chart-topper ‘Blown Away,’ as well as the revenge-filled hit ‘Before He Cheats.’ So when it came time to write the next big hit in ‘Two Black Cadillacs,’ Underwood already knew the general direction she wished to take the tune, which she knocked out with Josh Kear and Hillary Lindsey. “It was the first time that the three of us had written a song together,” Kear tells Taste of Country. “I had written with both Carrie and Hillary separately, but never in this particular combination. You assume that it’s going to work, but you never truly know.” “Carrie had told me in an earlier writing appointment that she was expecting this album to have darker tones than any of her earlier records,” Kear continues. “So I remember sitting at the piano while writing the song thinking that if Carrie really wanted something dark, this was what she was after.” – Read more at Taste of Country

Strangely enough the Christmas show that they do at the community theater in Raleigh is Cinderella. It’s not really a different story, but it’s part of the Christmas tradition. X Factor’s Lyric Da Queen on Eye Patches, Mary Poppins and Miley. Plus: Bonus Freestyle Rap! – TVLINE | Before this interview, I did a YouTube search on you and found an audition you did for a BET Awards show where your flow was insanely fast but completely understandable. It was really amazing. Are you frustrated to be voted off The X Factor without having showcased your skills as a lyricist? Yeah, it’s crazy. Top 12 week was supposed to be the week that me and the boys [Jewlz and Melee] showcased what we could really do. On the show, you saw our theatrical side, our fun side, the ’90s side, but you still had not seen Lyric145 as hip-hop artists. We had this crazy concept with original lyrics. It was definitely going to be our best performance, and lo and behold, the night before, we got a call saying that we couldn’t do the song. And I swear, I fought really hard for it, because all the problems [that sidelined the performance] ended up getting fixed at the very last minute. Simon really, really liked the mash-up with Katy Perry and Queen, and we totally didn’t. I was going all the way off up until the time I got on stage, but it got out of our hands. It was a case of either keep fighting, get on stage and not know the words, or go ahead and use that hour or two to learn the words to the new song. – Read more at TV Line

Dancing With the Stars Backstage Scoop: Karina Will Miss Apolo More Than the Mirror Ball Trophy – “It was an amazing experience,” Apolo said with partner Karina Smirnoff by his side. “Obviously I’m a competitor, she’s a competitor, we’ve both been champions many times over and we always want to win, but at the end of the day we could only control how much we would give every single week and we gave our all. I can honestly say we gave our all.” Karina agreed, adding, “I think this season has probably been one of the most emotional seasons I’ve had on the show. From week one we had moments when we fought a little bit and it was difficult to break through that particular wall, but once we did we have grown so much closer together. I’m going to miss those moments more than the mirror ball trophy for sure!” – Read more at EOnline

Every single week, we gave 100 percent, and it’s tough. As a competitor, you want to go to the final. You want the opportunity to fight for mirror-ball trophy. “But at the same time I’m proud. I was happy no matter what the result was gonna be. And I’m proud of [Karina] for being able to push me to give so much emotionally to each dance and grow as a person. – Read more at Zap2it.com
