‘Idol’ winner Scotty McCreery depicted in Garner High School mural
GARNER — Scotty McCreery swung his microphone like a baseball bat at the end of a song on “American Idol” as a signal for the band to stop playing.
Now, that move is captured on a new sports mural at Garner High School that honors Scotty and other famous figures in the school’s history.
Scotty, who won “Idol” and is now a senior at the school, was on hand Friday as Garner High unveiled the mural at the entrance to its sports complex.

Haley Reinhart goes up in ‘Lights’ at the Mag Mile Festival
She will be writing some or all of each song on the album. “That’s just who I am. I always have wanted to be very hands-on,” she said.
When asked about themes of the songs, Reinhart said with a little chuckle, “Sure, there will be songs about relationships, but I want there to be more than just love songs or songs about broken hearts or loss of love or rejected love.
“Music should also be inspiring and motivational, and I’m hoping to work some of that into the album as well.

“Obviously, my career wasn’t as “successful” as people were saying. I wasn’t who I was before I came on The X Factor stage. It wasn’t like I was Janet Jackson and I came to do The X Factor, she told PARADE.com. I think people were looking for some sort of news to dish on me because they wanted to see me off the show and that’s what they got,” she vented.
While she holds respect for her mentor and judge, Nicole Scherzinger, she thinks that if she had been in Simon Cowell’s group, things might have turned out differently.
“I love Nicole very much, but the game was going really hardcore. I definitely feel that Simon Cowell threw me under the bus as a judge. He made it very clear that he wanted to take the crown for one of his girls,” she said.
