David Archuleta stays positive amid criticisms, challenges

MANILA, Philippines – In a time when songs about sex dominate the charts, and even regular folks criticize public figures, well, regularly if not unwarrantedly, singer-songwriter David Archuleta stays positive with goals intact.

“Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It’s a matter of me making a mark. What I’m trying to do is make a mark and leave an impression to the people who want to listen and willing to take time to understand what I’m trying to accomplish, ” the baby-faced “American Idol” runner-up told Bulletin Entertainment and other members of the media in a roundtable interview last Nov. 17.

So what’s the other side of David A.?

Why did you call your album The Other Side of Down?

“Because I want people to look at things in a different way. I wanted to be very positive with the album and I was able to help in writing the songs. I guess the main message is that life can be difficult and challenging but life is good even if sometimes it can be confusing.”

Confusing?

“Yeah. Life can be confusing especially among teenagers. You know, they keep asking, ‘Where do I take my life? What am I supposed to do?’ It’s a confusing time for so many people but at the same time there are so many opportunities, and so I wanted to remind people to just have a good attitude.”

Walt Disney World Extends Christmas Day Parade Taping; Seacrest Outs Regis and Kelly

According to an email sent to cast members confirmed to attend the taping of Magic Kingdom portion of the 2010 Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade, certain performances will now be recorded on Thursday, December 2 as well as the following Friday and Saturday. This parrots the actions of the Resort last year when it came to taping the performances of the likes of Celine Dion, the Jonas Brothers, American Idol winner Kris Allen and more.

In addition, the email notes that the event will not be hosted by Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa who have held the title since 2002 (with exception to 2009 when Philbin was unable to host due to health concerns). Instead, Ryan Seacrest will flip coasts this year and host the Magic Kingdom portion. Interestingly enough, Ripa was backed up last year by Nick Canon as the man-on-the-street while Seacrest hosted the Disneyland portion of the parade.

Maksim Slams DWTS: “This Season Has Just Been Ridiculous”

Are you mad at all about it?
I felt really disappointed with Bristol. On Monday night, I found out that she went on record saying that I said something about her along the lines of, “I don’t like her because she’s still here and she’s not a good enough dancer.” Every time I’ve opened my mouth about Bristol, I’ve been nothing but supportive…For her to come out on Monday night and totally smear my name the way she did, that’s just completely uncalled for…I have no idea where she got it from, but wherever she got it from, shame on her and shame on whoever told her that.

What about the alleged right-wing conspiracy theory keeping Bristol on the show? Are you starting to believe it?
I definitely think that the system is flawed. I think there are a lot of problems with it. I have a lot of friends in the Philadelphia area who couldn’t call at all. People here, in front of me, picked up the phone, dialed one time and it said, “Thank you for voting. You are over your limit.” Anybody crazy would think, “This is a conspiracy theory. Everybody’s out there and wants Bristol to win.” Not at all. I think it’s just a flawed system.

Simon Cowell – Cowell Fights Back Against ‘Fix’ Claims

SIMON COWELL has lodged a formal complaint with Britain’s media watchdog over allegations his hit U.K. TV show THE X FACTOR is fixed.

The music mogul has seen his singing competition plunged into controversy during its current season amid claims the voting system is engineered to keep certain acts on the programme.

The gossip came to a head this week (begs15Nov10) with the publication of a report which suggested Cowell is aware of the results of the crucial weekly viewers’ poll in advance – and he is furious at the allegation.

Cowell is adamant The X Factor judges are never given advance information about voting patterns, and his legal team has lodged a formal grievance with Britain’s Press Complaints Commission (PCC) about the new report.

My admiration for Simon Cowell – by Sarah Palin

Cowell, Palin writes in America by Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith, and Flag, is “almost alone in his willingness to tell hard truths” to contestants deluded in their belief that they are talented singers.

In one of several scanned pages of the book on the US website Gawker, Palin says: “No one they’ve encountered in their lives – from their parents to their teachers to their president – wanted them to feel bad by hearing the truth. So they grew up convinced they could become big pop stars like Michael Jackson.”

She does not expand on what the president’s role in this should be.

The argument concludes: “Cowell can be a little harsh at times, but he upholds the highest standards, and something in us recognises and responds to that.”
