David Archuleta stays positive amid criticisms, challenges

MANILA, Philippines – In a time when songs about sex dominate the charts, and even regular folks criticize public figures, well, regularly if not unwarrantedly, singer-songwriter David Archuleta stays positive with goals intact.

“Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It’s a matter of me making a mark. What I’m trying to do is make a mark and leave an impression to the people who want to listen and willing to take time to understand what I’m trying to accomplish, ” the baby-faced “American Idol” runner-up told Bulletin Entertainment and other members of the media in a roundtable interview last Nov. 17.

So what’s the other side of David A.?

Why did you call your album The Other Side of Down?

“Because I want people to look at things in a different way. I wanted to be very positive with the album and I was able to help in writing the songs. I guess the main message is that life can be difficult and challenging but life is good even if sometimes it can be confusing.”

Confusing?

“Yeah. Life can be confusing especially among teenagers. You know, they keep asking, ‘Where do I take my life? What am I supposed to do?’ It’s a confusing time for so many people but at the same time there are so many opportunities, and so I wanted to remind people to just have a good attitude.”

Walt Disney World Extends Christmas Day Parade Taping; Seacrest Outs Regis and Kelly

According to an email sent to cast members confirmed to attend the taping of Magic Kingdom portion of the 2010 Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade, certain performances will now be recorded on Thursday, December 2 as well as the following Friday and Saturday. This parrots the actions of the Resort last year when it came to taping the performances of the likes of Celine Dion, the Jonas Brothers, American Idol winner Kris Allen and more.

In addition, the email notes that the event will not be hosted by Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa who have held the title since 2002 (with exception to 2009 when Philbin was unable to host due to health concerns). Instead, Ryan Seacrest will flip coasts this year and host the Magic Kingdom portion. Interestingly enough, Ripa was backed up last year by Nick Canon as the man-on-the-street while Seacrest hosted the Disneyland portion of the parade.

Maksim Slams DWTS: “This Season Has Just Been Ridiculous”

Are you mad at all about it?
I felt really disappointed with Bristol. On Monday night, I found out that she went on record saying that I said something about her along the lines of, “I don’t like her because she’s still here and she’s not a good enough dancer.” Every time I’ve opened my mouth about Bristol, I’ve been nothing but supportive…For her to come out on Monday night and totally smear my name the way she did, that’s just completely uncalled for…I have no idea where she got it from, but wherever she got it from, shame on her and shame on whoever told her that.

What about the alleged right-wing conspiracy theory keeping Bristol on the show? Are you starting to believe it?
I definitely think that the system is flawed. I think there are a lot of problems with it. I have a lot of friends in the Philadelphia area who couldn’t call at all. People here, in front of me, picked up the phone, dialed one time and it said, “Thank you for voting. You are over your limit.” Anybody crazy would think, “This is a conspiracy theory. Everybody’s out there and wants Bristol to win.” Not at all. I think it’s just a flawed system.

Why Is Bristol Palin Still on ‘DWTS’? Host Tom Bergeron Explains (VIDEO)

On the new ‘Chelsea Lately’ (weeknights, 11PM ET on E!), Chelsea Handler asks ‘DWTS’ host Tom Bergeron what’s going on. Tom explains the situation very slowly and patiently to Ms. Handler: “She is … getting … more votes … than the people who … aren’t there anymore.”

Simon Cowell – Cowell Fights Back Against ‘Fix’ Claims

SIMON COWELL has lodged a formal complaint with Britain’s media watchdog over allegations his hit U.K. TV show THE X FACTOR is fixed.

The music mogul has seen his singing competition plunged into controversy during its current season amid claims the voting system is engineered to keep certain acts on the programme.

The gossip came to a head this week (begs15Nov10) with the publication of a report which suggested Cowell is aware of the results of the crucial weekly viewers’ poll in advance – and he is furious at the allegation.

Cowell is adamant The X Factor judges are never given advance information about voting patterns, and his legal team has lodged a formal grievance with Britain’s Press Complaints Commission (PCC) about the new report.

My admiration for Simon Cowell – by Sarah Palin

Cowell, Palin writes in America by Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith, and Flag, is “almost alone in his willingness to tell hard truths” to contestants deluded in their belief that they are talented singers.

In one of several scanned pages of the book on the US website Gawker, Palin says: “No one they’ve encountered in their lives – from their parents to their teachers to their president – wanted them to feel bad by hearing the truth. So they grew up convinced they could become big pop stars like Michael Jackson.”

She does not expand on what the president’s role in this should be.

The argument concludes: “Cowell can be a little harsh at times, but he upholds the highest standards, and something in us recognises and responds to that.”

  1. Since we are talking about Bristol Palin and American Idol, did you hear this?

Bristol Palin has been featured on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars,” but Sarah Palin has a few words for Fox’s “American Idol.” She refers to “talent-deprived” contestants who suffer from “the cult of self-esteem.”

“No one they have encountered in their lives — from their parents to their teachers to their president — wanted them to feel bad by hearing the truth,” she writes. “So they grew up convinced that they could become big pop stars like Michael Jackson.”

Well, my goodness isn’t this a surprise?

  2. Aduuum lombear! I think I heard the first wonky note ( okay 2nd if you count the ending of MadWorld) from Adam at about the 1:50 mark. Did I hear that he hates singing first thing in the morning somewhere before? Who is singing backup?

  3. MJ — Thanks so much for posting that Adam clip!!!

He looks so tired!! Poor BB needs a vacation.

  4. Bristol Palin has been featured on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars,” but Sarah Palin has a few words for Fox’s “American Idol.” She refers to “talent-deprived” contestants who suffer from “the cult of self-esteem.”

Sarah’s right on that other than the best of the people who compete on AI. There’s some really good talent that comes up through the winnowing process on AI, but there are a ton of talent-challenged aspirants also. Many of whom at least to the degree you can judge watching what the producers put on air, truly think they are hot stuff even though they can’t sing a lick or seem to have come from bizarro-world, lol. It’s one of the appeals of the show ;)

  5. Bristol Palin has been featured on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars,” but Sarah Palin has a few words for Fox’s “American Idol.” She refers to “talent-deprived” contestants who suffer from “the cult of self-esteem.”

She’s such a hypocrite. At least the Idol contestants don’t quit. They stay on the show until they are actually voted off, unlike some politicians we know.

  6. No one they have encountered in their lives — from their parents to their teachers to their president — wanted them to feel bad by hearing the truth,” she writes. “So they grew up convinced that they could become big pop stars like Michael Jackson.”

Sarah, dearest. Why didn’t you tell your daughter that she can’t dance? Didn’t you want her to feel bad by hearing the truth?

Aduuum lombear! I think I heard the first wonky note ( okay 2nd if you count the ending of MadWorld) from Adam at about the 1:50 mark. Did I hear that he hates singing first thing in the morning somewhere before? Who is singing backup?

I heard that too! But since all his notes are pitch perfect he´s allowed to have one bad note every once in a while :) And come on who sings like that early in the morning? I can count them in just one hand…

  8. Why didn’t you tell your daughter that she can’t dance? Didn’t you want her to feel bad by hearing the truth?

I’m not a big follower of DWTS, but aren’t they completely different show premises? AI is supposed to be about finding the next singing star from among people-who-can-really-sing-to-begin-with but who need polishing, testing in performance conditions similar to those of a professional recording artist, and exposure.

Where I thought DWTS is not about people-who-know-how-to-dance, but about putting regular (celebrity-ish) people with professional dancers and showing that dancing is fun and with practice they can get good at it and be surprisingly entertaining. Or, they can be a trainwreck, lol. But there wasn’t any expectation that they were great dancers to begin with, if anything the opposite like with some of the sports figures.

  9. Shut up Sarah Palin. I can’t stand your voice any more than I can stand the absurdity of words that come out of your mouth.

Since you like truth so much … you’re kid is not a dancer and her personality is sorely lacking. You have some eggs to be bad mouthing American Idol contestants when Bristol’s claim to fame is she has a mommy who Tina Fey can impersonate so well.

  10. renataamelo- ITA- 2 bad notes in two years is pretty damn good, lol.

    On the whole Palin BS:

I am sure SP was talking about those contestants that come on during the audition rounds whose parents push them all their life insisting that they are great singers when they are not. And I agree with Steph- DWTS is supposed to be about Stars that have little to no experience- big difference.

    Maks is a huge crybaby.

People need to stop voting like this is a redo of the election

People need to stop shooting their TV’s.

    Madness, this whole thing.

Speaking of madness- Vince Neil. Motley Crue. SKATING WITH THE STARS! Make it end!

  11. I have no idea what the French dj said, but it sounded sexy as hell :) Good job so early in the morning!

  12. Sarah, dearest. Why didn’t you tell your daughter that she can’t dance? Didn’t you want her to feel bad by hearing the truth?

Yup. And apparently mom wasn’t listening when her mom and dad said she wasn’t smart enough to run for president. Sarah Palin has skills, but speaking English and apparently mothering are not among them.

Maks is partially right. The show is flawed. Any show that panders to political movements deserves the criticism it gets.

  13. Grammie Kari:

“No one they have encountered in their lives — from their parents to their teachers to their president — wanted them to feel bad by hearing the truth,” she writes. “So they grew up convinced that they could become big pop stars like Michael Jackson.”

Sarah is quite right. All of us average folks should just stay home on the couch with our remotes, and never try to better ourselves or cheer up any of our friends. If you aren’t in the top 1% of the world either talent-wise or intellectually, just shut up and go clean out your refrigerator. It’s all you’re good for.

    What a bitch.

Yup. And apparently mom wasn’t listening when her mom and dad said she wasn’t smart enough to run for president. Sarah Palin has skills, but speaking English and apparently mothering are not among them.

Last I checked she ran for VP, lol. So I’ll give you the English speaking, but what exactly makes her a bad mother? Because her teenage daughter got pregnant?

The music and media industries have catered to liberals for years, it really irks me that people are now bothered that a republican’s daughter dared to show up on a TV show.

I doubt that was her point, lol. What she is saying is a pretty widely held point of view, that giving anyone false self-esteem that isn’t grounded in actual hard work or talent, isn’t doing them any favors. The better AI contestants in most cases have either a lot of true natural talent as singers, and/or have worked very hard at it in one way or another for quite a while. The deluded peeps who come in during the audition rounds, not so much. And similar in any walk of life. I have a fellow in my office who is convinced he is management material; err, not so much but I guess no one ever told him otherwise. Lol! It’s not just in the entertainment field. Or look at the kids who don’t pay as much attention in school as they might as they are convinced they have NBA or NFL class talent from playing pretty well on their high school sports team. Sure, follow your dreams and try, but don’t count on it.
Danny once described AI like throwing a stone out into the ocean. And sometimes you actually get lucky and really hit something. It’s worth a try, but quite a long shot even for those who do have real talent.

  16. Danny once described AI like throwing a stone out into the ocean. And sometimes you actually get lucky and really hit something. It’s worth a try

Just like Danny to try to stone those poor defensless animals in the ocean.

    Kidding :)

And as far as her rip on AI- one paragraph was taken out of her book for that quote. MAYBE, just maybe, she explains what exactly she meant by that statement in the book. I have no desire to buy it, but it is soo easy to take a quote like that out of context.

  17. LMAO. Sarah Palin should shut up! The only talent-deprived, personality-deprived reality contestant that I see is her own daughter. She’s so full of herself and she’s the one who suffers from the ” cult of self-esteem”. Why is she even talking about American Idol?

  18. Sounds like another busy day for Kris today. They really are taking advantage of him being in L.A….

  19. There are a lot of people that like Sarah and also Bristol!!!

That’s ^^^ the scary part right there. She’s such a hypocrite.

  20. I think this is new:

On Dec. 4, Am. Idol fav. David Archuleta will join Children’s patients in the Children’s Medical Center Holiday Parade.
    http://www.childrens.com/PatientsFamilies/News/american-idol-fave-joins-parade.cfm

Archuleta will perform a special holiday concert at the Majestic Theater in Dallas, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Children’s. The next morning he will join the hospital’s patients, and jolly old St. Nicholas himself, as they make their way through Downtown Dallas in the Children’s Medical Center Holiday Parade presented by Capital One Bank.

  21. Studio57 and lili_anne7, maybe someone will buy Sarah Palin’s book and can give us the context for which these statements came from? I really am curious.

I will say that one of the stations picked this up and had William Hung singing on the back screen. That wasn’t a good example to use because William did have some success outside the United States with his Idol ‘fame’. He sold enough albums to pay for his college education.

  22. I never thought I would kinda agreee with Sarah Palin (didnt read the whole thing)

    Katherine looks great
    Adam’s performance was really good

I always forget David is still a teen!

Maks seems really pissed off, but I see why…

  23. Radio station in Portland, OR just confirmed Kris for their Jingle Ball show. So both he and Lee will be on the bill…

  24. If that gig’s a sign Casey’s been writing with Shane McAnally then I’m pretty excited. He’s got a few songs on the new Reba album and he also cowrote the new Kenny Chesney single and also a single by Lee Ann Womack. I hope when he says Casey James he’s talking about the one we’d be thinking of here.

Here are some of Shane McAnally’s most recently released songs on youtube:

  25. Hypocrite or not, Sarah Palin does have a point. Part of the fascination of the first season of Idol was watching the self-esteem generation run into the likes of Simon Cowell. Early on Simon appeared more straightforward and brutally honest than overtly manipulative, and it was obvious that few people had ever spoken to some of those kids like he did. Nurturing Paula was what they expected; Simon and his cutting-no-slack demand for excellence was not. I started watching because of that blunt Brit in the commercials for the show telling conestants the truth about their abilities. It was a marketing ploy that worked because I had no idea at the beginning what was in store down the line.

  26. Luv what are you doing home? U sick?

All your comments are cracking me up this morning guys.

Thanks for the Vids MJ. :)

  27. The joke contestants that we see are fully aware that are jokes. Richard Rushfield wrote a great piece last year about how the contestants who see the judges are told who’s there to be the trainwrecks, and who is there based on talents. The joke contestants are even coached on being more over the top to ensure that they make it on the air.

  28. Adam sounded ‘cute’ when he spoke a bit in french :)
the DJ tells at the end that it’s difficult to sing in the morning but Adam has an extraordinary voice; and they are looking forward to an European tour

  29. Believe me, I’m no fan of the “everybody gets a prize” movement. I think never telling your kid that they suck at something is a terrible idea, just like hand-sanitizing and antibiotic-ing them to the point that they’re prey to every germ that comes down the pike. But my god, if you don’t believe you have a shot at being the next Michael Jackson, why get out of bed in the morning? Without dreams, we may as well have never left the primordial slime.

  30. People “if u give a damn” about our country, you, YES YOU should be very scared, that biotch wants to be our next President!! So make sure that you remember that in another 2 years..as for DWTS, I will be doing a lot of voting against Bristol, screw the T’party freaks.

  31. Radio station in Portland, OR just confirmed Kris for their Jingle Ball show. So both he and Lee will be on the bill…

Happy that the people in that area can see Kris more since he hardly tours there.

And that’s what I like when Kris goes to New York or LA area, more press.

  32. Why is Sarah Palin writing about Idol in her book?

Not enough material since you quit during your one term as Governor?

  33. Sorry gangreen I have to disagree with you… she didn’t finish her term. ;)

  34. The joke contestants that we see are fully aware that are jokes.

Some of them do. Do you really think William Hung, the girl who killed herself in front of Paula’s house, and those two friends- one of whom Simon made fun of by calling him a bushbaby- do you think those people were in on “the joke”? Do you think they had the emotional ability to even understand the joke?

  35. I just want to state that I am in no way a Palin supporter, and I am neither Democrat or Republican, but I can spot bullshit when I see it and the media just loves to pick and choose what Palin says in sound bites and then go to town with their interpretaion of it. Here is another excerpt of the book about Idol I found on Politico:

One issue the site has is Palin’s distaste for the popular talent show “American Idol.” While she supportively cheers for her daughter on “Dancing With the Stars” and recorded a message wishing the show a happy 200th episode, Palin thinks “Idol” sends the wrong message.

The ex-Alaska governor writes, “On American Idol, of course, these self-esteem-enhanced but talent deprived performers eventually learn the truth. After they’ve embarrassed themselves for the benefit of the producers, they are told in no uncertain terms that they, in fact, can’t sing, regardless of what they have been told by others.”

She goes on to argue that someone should tell those without musical talent who audition for “Idol” that they need to work on their ear-piercingly bad voices before trying out for the show. “Instead, a growing chorus of voices is trying to convince our kids that hard work isn’t necessary anymore,” Palin writes.

just remember the only part she actually says in the book is what is actually quoted. MJ also has another link up there in headlines that she admires Simon for telling it like it is, so NO, Palin is not slamming Idol, she is slamming some of their tactics, as all of us have done at some time.

  36. Danny once described AI like throwing a stone out into the ocean. And sometimes you actually get lucky and really hit something. It’s worth a try

Just like Danny to try to stone those poor defensless animals in the ocean.

Heh. That’s a weird analogy from Danny.

This is random, but today’s the 2nd anniversary of David Cook’s record! Woot. Can’t believe it’s been 2 years. Good times.

  37. The joke contestants are even coached on being more over the top to ensure that they make it on the air.

Others may not agree, but I usually find those “contestants” boring and always a complete waste of time. Devoting time to them instead of more genuine auditions is high on the list of Idol’s big problems, IMO.

  38. larc:

LMAO! I am sure Danny meant that the stone would hit a whale poacher :)

Palin’s comment seems a little hypocritical to me, but you never know how things are taken out of context, and not even going to get into the political/personal character issue here!

  40. Indigobunting if you check out the Nigel interview on the View, they provide the quote. Its pretty cut and dry.

  41. Palin’s comment seems a little hypocritical to me, but you never know how things are taken out of context, and not even going to get into the political/personal character issue here

Things are ALWAYS taken out of context when it comes to Sarah Palin and the media frenzy and deranged left. Sarah Palin is to the left what Hillary Clinton was to the right.

As to Bristol on DWTS. I have been watching the show and she has carried herself with dignity and respect and has improved each week which is what I thought DWTS was about. Every year I am turned off by the celebrities who have prior dance experience and go to the finals – this year it is Jennifer. It totally amuses me that people really think Bristol is still on the show because of some political conspiracy – it is laughable and just shows how deranged some people can be.

  42. I’m not sure why Sarah is being called a hypocrite for what she said about the early rounds of AI. What she says is true. And she does not say do not dare to go for your dream, she is just saying you need to be realistic about it and WORK FOR IT. She is also saying that kids need to have honest feedback about how they are doing and not just given the proverbial “Participation Award” whether they have accomplished anything or not. That practice in so many of today’s public schools are why we have a young generation that expects to have things given to them without having to work for them. Where is the self-esteem in that?

And as someone said above, most of the outrage about Bristol (and Sarah) seems to be “how dare they let a conservative on these liberal networks?” Can’t we all share?

  43. And as someone said above, most of the outrage about Bristol (and Sarah) seems to be “how dare they let a conservative on these liberal networks?”

I don’t think that is it. There are all different kinds of people on so called “liberal” networks. I wouldn’t call Fox liberal, lol!

I think people just think it is an attempt for limelight by SP.

Bristol is just a kid who made a mistake and is trying to make the best out of her future. I hope the media and others are not too rough on her.

I am not a Palin fan by any stretch but I also think it isn’t fair to bash her for mothering skills. I have great kids, but it is always a mother’s fear they could wind up mothering kids having kids; there is just so much control we have over these wonderful beings (and anyone who says my kid would NEVER do that is deluding themselves, lol!)

  44. This is random, but today’s the 2nd anniversary of David Cook’s record! Woot. Can’t believe it’s been 2 years. Good times.

    Good times is right. Wootx2!

  45. indigobunting- I just wanted to clarify I wasn’t talking about networks, I meant the viewing audience when I said this:

The music and media industries have catered to liberals for years, it really irks me that people are now bothered that a republican’s daughter dared to show up on a TV show.

And also, back to Maks- I don’t know what exactly Bristol said about him- did MJ ever print a post on that? But isn’t it hypocritical of HIM too? He said he “found out that she went on the record” as saying something mean about him. She said basically the same thing- that she “heard” he said something about her. Isn’t that pretty much the pot calling the kettle black? Did I miss something? I’m confused, lol.

  46. The article mj posted on ‘David Archuleta stays positive amid criticism and challenges’ is full of wins. He is so mature and wise. He knows what’s going on out there, but insisted to go on his own way. At such a young age, nobody denies his musical talent and the possibilities this hardworking artist can do for the music industry positively in a long term.

  47. Aww two years ago today I was freezing my ass off in Times Square at 5am waiting to buy DCTR and a wristband for the Hard Rock release party (seriously that party was effin awesome). Sniff. Good times! I rarely look at his Twitter replies anymore cause I have no tolerance for the craycray but the tweets to him today I did look at, and I may have something in my eye…

Since I’m feeling all sentimental..my fave pic from that day :)

  48. From the article above,
”After his press interviews at The Peninsula Manila, the crooner serenaded his fans at the SM Skydome in a three-song set. An autograph session came afterward wherein he reportedly signed all of the CDs that the fans bought (and not just the first 400 who did as per promo mechanics) .”

    Don’t ever change, David.

  49. windmills, I was wondering if it was “our” Casey James, too, but it looks like it is:

SHANE MC ANALLY, CASEY JAMES, JOSH OSBORNE@ 8pm

Hit songwriter/recording artist Shane McAnally, American Idol alumni/BNA Recording Artist Casey James, and Josh Osborne. Doors open for dinner at 7pm, show starts at 8pm. $10 cover

    When Fri Nov 19 8pm – 11pm Central Time

    Where The James Gang Company

Thanks for the info about Shane McAnally. Have to check him out.

ETA: LOVE the Kenny Chesney song. I hope your insticts are right, windmills, and that Casey is writing with Shane. Kenny Chesney is a label mate of Casey’s, so you could be on to something.

  50. From a fan report on David A’s trip to Philippine,
“Little background about the photo above from the blog of the guy fan…

Those fans waited overnight at the hotel to say goodbye to David (from showcase to 5am). When Melinda came down, they asked if they could have a pic with David. Melinda wasn’t sure because David had just woken up. David came down and talked to them for a bit, thanking them, etc. and then boarded the van. Fans were disappointed they didn’t ask him for a photo or even sign their COS copies. They didn’t want to be demanding. Van door closed, started moving, then stopped. Melinda and David were talking inside the bus. Then, David came out and asked the fans if they wanted a photo with them.”

His fans are used to hearing stories like this, but still in awe when realizing how he’s been that way since day one.

  51. Since I’m feeling all sentimental..my fave pic from that day

Trina, thanks for posting that. Was that fist pump from when he learned his album hit #1 on iTunes? I remember watching all the youtubes of that release party. He was so happy. Ugh, wish I could’ve gone! Dang work…

  52. It looks like Casey was a last-minute addition to the lineup. Earlier in the week Shane was tweeting about Brandy Clark joining him and Josh Osborne:

Brandy Clark, Josh Osborne, and I will be at James Gang Company Friday@7:30 jamesgangcompany.com For reservations.

10:20 AM Nov 17th via Twitterrific

It looks like Brandy has written with Reba too.

And Shane is from Mineral Wells, Texas, right next door to Cool (Casey’s hometown).

Nashville definitely has that “everybody knows everybody” vibe going on, doesn’t it?

  53. sma11ie I dont remember exactly what that fist pump was for but I do remember the exact moment he was told about the #1 and it wasnt on stage. He was signing autographs once the concert was over and the line of fans was going around the place, someone in line got a text that it just reached #1 and I remember loud shrieks screaming “TELL HIM TELL HIM!” And IIRC his manager Michelle ran over and told him. I remember his PR guy Roger going over to his mom hugging her looking ecstatic. In true Cook form he started crying LOL I know he had to get up to compose himself. It was such a great moment.

  54. I’m very impressed and proud of David Archuleta who is staying true to his beliefs and goals in his young life. He is well respected in Asia and of course by many of us in the US. Word is that he is back in the US and has lots of performances coming up.

  55. BootStar: That’s great! When I’d checked the James Gang Co site they just listed “Shane McAnally and friends”. Too, if you check Shane’s twitter (EDIT: lol you already did!), it was originally supposed to be Brandy Clark, Josh Osborne, and Shane McAnally. Shane and Brandy cowrote Cry and The Day She Got Divorced on Reba’s album.

Judging from all that I’d guess that Brandy Clark had to drop out of the Friday gig and so Shane invited Casey to take her place. I’d say it’s a very good sign Shane and Casey know each other and have written together if Shane invited Casey to gig with him. I hope we get to see what they play.

  56. Last I checked she ran for VP, lol. So I’ll give you the English speaking, but what exactly makes her a bad mother?

Sarah Palin has said she will run for president if no one else does. Sarah Palin’s daughter Willow spent time on Facebook and called a classmate some very perjorative names pertaining to sexuality. That reflects on Sarah Palin as a parent. She simply isn’t doing parenting, though neither is most of Hollywood.

I think never telling your kid that they suck at something is a terrible idea

You don’t need to tell your kids they suck at something; you can just say they are better at something else. If you tell them they suck at something, figure they will become great at it just to piss you off. If they really suck, they already know it anyway.

  57. Judging from all that I’d guess that Brandy Clark had to drop out of the Friday gig and so Shane invited Casey to take her place. I’d say it’s a very good sign Shane and Casey know each other and have written together if Shane invited Casey to gig with him. I hope we get to see what they play.

LOL, I totally rely on you, windmills, to keep me up to date on All Things Country, since I’m really not that in touch with the commercial side of the genre. Any chance you live near Nashville and have 10 bucks to spare? ;-)

  58. The music and media industries have catered to liberals for years, it really irks me that people are now bothered that a republican’s daughter dared to show up on a TV show.

I disagree with that. One, lets separate the music industry from the TV industry. Two, lets look at what the popular shows on TV actually are. NCIS, Law and Order, American Idol, etc etc etc. Tell me these are “liberal” shows. There are plenty of TV shows that are highly rated and reflect values often claimed by conservatives. I think there is a tendency to confuse what is actually on TV and gets high ratings with what shows get buzz (like say Jersey Shore or Gossip Girl). The TV industry faithfully produces what gets high ratings, or appeals to a coveted advertising demo. Period.

Also, I don’t think people are mad that a Republican “dared” to show up on Dancing With the Stars. She is not the first conservative person to be on that show. Bristol Palin, unfortunately, is getting backlash because her mother is polarizing and is associated with the Tea Party, which also invokes strong feelings. Plus, she can’t dance. LOL. I don’t think Bohner’s daughter would have this issue, or even someone like Mike Hukabee.

  59. I do remember the exact moment he was told about the #1 and it wasnt on stage. He was signing autographs once the concert was over

Oh yeah, I remember that story :). Aww. Good times…

  60. sadly followers/likes/views via social media and other such things doesnt translate into sales. Shoot im always having to inform some fans who had no idea he has new music out.

  61. I rarely look at his Twitter replies anymore cause I have no tolerance for the craycray but the tweets to him today I did look at, and I may have something in my eye…

Aww, same here – can’t believe it’s been two years. And to be totally sentimental, I’ll send a big ol’ group hug to my Cookie fandom peeps and thanks to David for the music, the shows, the friends and the Race for Hope and all the other inspiration to be better and do better. *Sniff* While at the bottom of it all I absolutely love that voice… well, hell, I still just fricking love that guy ;)

  62. Judging from all that I’d guess that Brandy Clark had to drop out of the Friday gig and so Shane invited Casey to take her place. I’d say it’s a very good sign Shane and Casey know each other and have written together if Shane invited Casey to gig with him. I hope we get to see what they play.

Yes, I really hope there will be a video or something. This is exciting news. :)

  63. The AP link for Kat’s interview doesn’t work.

Here is another link from the AP segment with interview done by Kat where she talks about writing ‘Christmas Without You’ w/her musical director. Checkout snippets of Kat’s Christmas video ‘It’s Not Christmas Without You’. Her co-star is revealed…Zach Levi’s best friend and Kat’s co-star in Shark Night!

  64. omg. Can’t wait for video from Adam’s Paris concert. New encore. He did Whole Lotta Love (electric) and Purple Haze. Probably because it’s Monte’s birthday.

ETA: Purple Haze is trending on Twitter.

    Adam’s dad tweets:

milestougeaux Wondering if he went with the Waynes World version… “”scuse me while I kiss this guy” half a minute ago via web

  65. X Factor UK Live Tour Line-up confirmed

Every week you’ve watched our finalists sing their hearts’ out live from your living room… next year you’ll be able to see them live in front of your very eyes!

That’s right people, from Febuary 2011 The X Factor will be going on tour across the UK and Ireland and we can now confirm that the FINAL NINE contestants will be gracing a stage near you.

Representing Dannii’s boy will be Aiden, Paije and Matt, One Direction will be live and kicking (everybody screeeeeaaaam!), Mary and Wagner will be showing the whippersnappers how it’s done and Katie, Rebecca and Cher will be bringing a touch of girly glamour to proceedings.

So if you have a one track mind for One Direction, or you’re bonkers for a certain bongo playing Brazilian… book your tickets now!

Usually, final 8 acts go on tour. But this year, Aiden got lucky.

How sad that just because someone’s mother has a different view of the world than they do – they react against her daughter so badly!!Don’t they know its not that serious- its a reality TV dance show after all!!
We had someone called Pauline Hanson on our Aussie DWTS & she was polarising as a politician at one stage but being on the show helped her seem more human.
I’d say lighten up to those people who are critical.

Oh & I just heard that some guy shot the television because she got through. Pu-lease this is not something that hasn’t happened before on a reality show!!

Very interesting article and something that makes me very proud of Clay Aiken. The man sure walks the walk.

    http://www.glsen.org/cgi-bin/iowa/all/news/record/2665.html

Thank you for posting this – the more I read and learn about Clay Aiken, the more I am impressed with him. I believe I read that he spoke before Congress one time before. Good for him that he is an advocate for the Anti-Bullying Legislation.

  68. As a non-DWTS watcher who goes on mjs everyday and reads the news daily, I didn’t get the sense that there was any backlash against Bristol until she started outlasting better dancers than her — which is just par for the course with reality show contestants. Of course once she became ‘the contestant who stayed far longer than her talents merited,’ all other aspects of her life got thrown in as a reason to not like her/demonize her. Same old same old it seems to me. Not that that’s fair or good, but I don’t think she got backlash because she was Sarah’s daughter, but rather she got backlash (for staying too long) and the fact of her mother being Sarah Palin was one more reason for a certain segment of the population to continue to bash her.

  69. Thanks for the link to the article about Clay Aiken. So nice to hear he’s doing what’s important to him like being an advocate against bullying. Mr. Aiken is a very articulate speaker. I’m sure he made people wake up and pay attention.

  70. Whoo-hoo for Casey! He seems to be hobnobbing with some great writers, which I think bodes well for his future material. I’m confident that SOMEONE will record this gig so we can enjoy it. Also, funny that the venue is the “James Gang Co”, hehe.

  71. Oh, also, because I’m into this stuff: I wonder if this JLo clothing line will be replacing the Daisy Fuentes line at Kohls? I actually kinda dig some of the Vera Wang and (gulp!) Lauren Conrad clothing there, but not so much the Daisy Fuentes. JLo may bring a bit more glamour and chicness to her line. Does anyone know if her “JLo” clothing line is still in operation. They used to sell it at Macy’s a few years ago, but I honestly haven’t noticed whether or not it’s still there. I guess I could Wiki it….

  72. My husband is a hardcore right-winger who worships the ground O’Reilly walks on. He doesn’t watch AI or any other reality show. He was foaming at the mouth last night over the treatment Bristol was receiving just because her mom is an “outspoken conservative.” He couldn’t believe people would say such horrible things to a young person who never did anything to them.

I told him, “Honey, in the world of competitive reality shows, that’s just another day at the office. You can’t begin to imagine what some of the things are that have been said about those people.”

  73. Sure hope we see Brandy and Maks do their free style dance on Tuesday’s show!

  74. The article on Archie is very interesting. He stays so positive and has the right attitude. It is hard for such a young artist like Archie to have to develop their talent while being judged from a lot of people. He is going to do great long term with that positive outlook he has.
