Britney Spears’ ‘X Factor’ Exit: What Does It Mean? – ‘It didn’t help her career, but it probably didn’t hurt it either,’ says reality TV blogger MJ Santilli of what ‘Factor’ did for the star. The confirmation on Thursday (January 10) that Britney Spears is leaving the “X Factor”? came as no surprise to anyone who followed the show’s second season. While it garnered lots of initial hype, the marriage never really worked and things fizzled almost immediately once the live shows hit the air. With both Spears and label legend L.A. Reid taking their leave, show creator Simon Cowell is once again faced with revamping half of the judge’s panel before the upcoming third season. – Read more at MTV

American Idol Season 12 Preview: Are Judges The Weak Link? – American Idol’s new season launches on Wednesday and the twice a week ratings juggernaut continues the next evening with a second episode to kick off 2013. The one sure thing is that the contestants will again be awesome. But what about the judges? As far as prognostication goes, I did pretty well as an armchair American Idol fan last season, picking the final three contestants in order, and well in advance. I also picked the winner from this trio. I was 100% on predictions last year, so I’ll take a leap now and without having seen a single episode, I am guessing that this season fans will like the singers more than people they are singing to. – Read more at Forbes

Rocker Chris Daughtry sells an Oak Ridge house to Volvo exec – The rock star, who rocketed into the national spotlight with a stint on the “American Idol” reality singing contest in 2006, sold the house in September for $585,000, according to county property records. Daughtry originally bought the property in 2006 for $690,000 and put it back on the market four years later for $720,000, according to property listings. That listing was removed, but reappeared in September 2011 with a $699,900 price tag, until it was eventually purchased for $585,000 — a loss of $105,000. – Read more at Biz Journals

Crash can’t stop ‘American Idol’ winner Kris Allen – When Kris Allen picks up the phone, he still sounds a little shaken. Understandable, since the winner of the eighth season of “American Idol” is just two days removed from a New Year’s Day car accident. The head-on collision in California left the pop singer injured, but he’s determined to proceed with his upcoming “Out Alive Tour,” which visits the Altamont Theatre on Jan. 17. – Read more at Citizen-Times

Chris Colfer blogs about his new film, ‘Struck by Lightning’ — EXCLUSIVE – To say the idea for Struck By Lightning hit me like a bolt of lightning would be an incredibly convenient way to start this piece but also the most accurate comparison I could make. There I was, Chris Colfer, a 16-year-old, 200-pound overachieving-but-underappreciated high school sophomore — you could light a match off my acne and construct a steam engine with the metal in my mouth. School had been out for hours and I had just finished organizing a literary magazine for the Writer’s Club (of which I was president). It was a Friday afternoon and besides the janitors and the teachers staying late to avoid their spouses, I was the last person at school. – Read more at Entertainment Weekly

Chris Colfer on Struck by Lightning, Harry Potter, and Casting Rebel Wilson – Chris Colfer doesn’t want to be, as he puts it, “the kid from Glee” forever — nor can he so long as Kurt is off at NYADA and not part of the main action on the show (which is back January 24 on Fox). So he’s been focusing on his writing career, which includes writing books, TV pilots, and movies. He also stars in his first turn as a screenwriter, the indie film Struck by Lightning, which features the delightful Rebel Wilson as his sidekick at a blackmail-fueled literary journal. Colfer called up Vulture to chat about his co-star, his fear of public singing, and how he used to dress up as a boy wizard. – Read more at Vulture

Chris Colfer on ‘Struck by Lightning,’ Secret Boyfriends, and Girl Fans – Some people learn how to write screenplays by taking a class. Not Chris Colfer. When he was in high school, he kept crouching down at a Borders bookstore in Fresno, Calif., where he religiously read, and reread, a $40 copy of Marie Antoinette by Sofia Coppola. “I was a huge history buff,” says Colfer, 22. “The movie came out right at the time I was studying for my AP European-history class.” By obsessing over the screenplay, “that’s how I taught myself to be a screenwriter,” he says. “I never could afford it, because it was $40. So I’d always visit it at the Borders and study the format.” – Read more at Daily Beast
