Pink Vs. Adam Lambert: Who Has The Better ‘Whataya Want From Me’?

The international edition of Pink’s upcoming Greatest Hits … So Far!!! collection will include her version of Adam Lambert’s megahit “Whataya Want From Me.” It’s a song she recorded (and ultimately dropped) from her 2008 Funhouse album before handing it off to Lambert, who turned it into a platinum-seller.

Pink’s rendition is nearly identical to Adam’s. (Listen to snippets in the embedded video below.) The biggest difference is a pronoun switch in the chorus. One can only assume Pink’s version — which she co-wrote with Max Martin — includes the original lyrics: “He messed me up” versus Adam’s generic “It messed me up.” (In hindsight, it’s a bummer that Team Lambert felt the need to “straighten” the song.)

EXCLUSIVE: Fantasia’s 12-Hour Settlement Talk With Boyfriend’s Wife Unsuccessful; Lawsuit Imminent

American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino met with her boyfriend’s scorned wife, Paula Cook, earlier this month in an attempt to keep the details of Barrino’s alleged affair with Antwaun Cook private and out of the Mecklenburg County courthouse, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned.

A source close to the situation says the two women attempted to settle their dispute through private mediation but the ladies were unable to reach a settlement, propelling Cook to move forward with a civil lawsuit against the singer.

Nikki Sixx Defends Steven Tyler as ‘American Idol’ Judge

But Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx has now stepped up, joining Tyler in his corner. “I get what he’s trying to do, the whole point of Steven Tyler being on ‘American Idol’ is to not make it cheesy, ” Sixx said on his radio show, ‘Sixx Sense.’

“It’s to have a real artist on there. Steven knows how to dress, so he has style; he knows how to design sets; he knows how to write songs, obviously; he plays instruments; he’s one of the greatest singers and one of the greatest frontmen of all time. So who’s better to judge somebody and give them advice or maybe say they don’t have it than Steven?”

As Sixx explained his position more, it became clear that his view is based on the idea that the show will be a more reputable place of discovery with Tyler on board. “There should be more Steven Tylers on there. So when I talked to Steven about that, we were talking about how he has the ability to find the next Jimi Hendrix, the next Janis Joplin, the next Kid Rock. This is a positive thing for music. This is a pipeline that we usually don’t have.”

Exclusive: Glee Rethinking Super Bowl Strategy

Glee is showing symptoms of tribute fatigue. Despite talk that the Fox hit’s post-Super Bowl episode would be a love letter to either Bruce Springsteen or Michael Jackson, I’m hearing producers are strongly reconsidering the single-singer route.

Word is Ryan Murphy & Co. are leaning toward staging a “regular” episode of Glee after SB XLV featuring music from a variety of artists rather than a stunt-heavy hour, a-la Britney and Madonna.

  1. That was a nice interview with Kris, et al (and Al) at the ALzheimer’s Assn. Rita Hayworth Gala. I’m looking forward to the telethon. It’s a very sad disease for those affected by it and their families.

Has anyone heard what Kris and Cale sang? And the big question, will they show his conversation with Elmo? (Remembering him saying Elmo is the muppet he’d want to be.)

Nice to see Casey getting exposure. I’m looking forward to what he puts out.

Yay that Ryan Murphy is rethinking a tribute show for the Super Bowl episode. I am stinking sick of tributes. Give me a story, please!

  2. The editor at MTV is just begging for Adam fans to spam that comment section on the article, lol.

Not surprised the bassist from Motley Crue comes to the defense of Tyler, I remember Vince Neil coming to the show (I think it was during season 8?) and they gave “Home Sweet Home” to Carrie who performed it as the boot song on season 8 too.

  3. I’m really interested to hear Casey’s record and I wish him well.

  4. Has anyone heard what Kris and Cale sang? And the big question, will they show his conversation with Elmo? (Remembering him saying Elmo is the muppet he’d want to be.)

The press could not give out any details about the actual taping but the the OK Mag interviewer said it was amazing. You can go to last night’s Evening thread to see the tweets she sent from the event.

  5. Looking forward to watching Danny Gokey and others on that AMA red carpet pre-show. Should be interesting. I hope he can stay awake; he has 4 days before that of a WI Vision promo appearance, 3 headlining concerts. In fact the night before the AMA appearance he will be singing in Wisconsin! Must be taking a red eye flight back; I don’t know how he gets the energy.

Cute pic with a young fan:

Oh, no more Fantasia drama. I don’t even want to know.

  6. Great to see these Casey videos. Can’t wait to see what the 2 acoustic songs were that Kris & Cale did.

Oh & when I bought Michael Johns 2 new/old songs on Aussie i-Tunes I just checked on Kris’s page & saw that the video of The Truth was available so I bought that as well. So ironic as TT the song nor LLWD have never been available nor the LLWD video.

  7. Jim loves to bait and get a rise out of the Glamberts. He enjoys poking them and they never disappoint him. lol

  8. Looks like Danny will have alot to do during the preshow livecast for the AMA’s since it looks like they are doing wide coverage.

  9. Making the episode after the super bowl a regular Glee episode and not some kind of special would be the smart move.

  10. he red carpet live stream will feature hosts Danny Gokey, Jennette McCurdy, Jenni Pulos, Lance Bass and Whitney Port, returning Coca-Cola Correspondent David Lehre, Stuart Brazell, and three international correspondents Agnes Monica, Christian Chavez, and Ye Liu.

Danny will be one busy guy. Looking forward to watching him host the red carpet live stream at the AMA’s. Should be lots of fun – Danny can be quite entertaining.

  11. The press could not give out any details about the actual taping but the the OK Mag interviewer said it was amazing. You can go to last night’s Evening thread to see the tweets she sent from the event.

Thanks, tripp, I’ll check that thread.

  12. Well just to let you the Glamberts (don’t know why people use this name as a put down) are not taking the bait and actually are hoping for a duet between two amazing voices.

  13. I don’t get it, Jim’s MTV article was pretty darn great. No baiting that I could see.

Anyway, I adore Pink, so I would absolutely love an Adam/Pink duet.

  14. Well just to let you the Glamberts (don’t know why people use this name as a put down) are not taking the bait

I don’t think “Glamberts” is a put down; that is what they called themselves during the show.

People may comment on the crazy behavior of some Glamberts descending on any article vaguely less complimentary to Adam (heck, we know all fan bases have crazies) but I have never heard the name itself to mean something negative.

I would buy that in a minute!

  16. I agree with you Chicagolaw. Can you imagine how amazing it would be for a Adam/Pink duet.

  17. I think someone is hoping that people get all pissed that Jim was scolding the change of “he messed me up” to “it messed me up” in the lyrics.

  18. I don’t get it, Jim’s MTV article was pretty darn great. No baiting that I could see.

The article (and video) is fine, the title (that Jim doesn’t choose) is baiting. Even more so because it’s not the point that is made.

  19. The editor at MTV is just begging for Adam fans to spam that comment section on the article, lol.

    lol ikr

would buy that in a minute!

    me too! :)

  20. Danny’s like the Energizer Bunny. His life is a whirlwind right now. I don’t know how he does it. He needs to bottle whatever he’s got and sell it.

  21. I don’t think “Glamberts” is a put down; that is what they called themselves during the show.

I love the nickname “Glamberts” and how the media also adopted calling Adam that. I think they started it if I am not mistaken. It kind of puts him in that special box, you know like MJ- “the Glove One”, Madonna- “Material Girl”, Bruce Springsteen- “The Boss”. I also love “The Glam One”.

  22. Danny has been unbelievably busy lately, and that is just the events that are made public….his fans are always discovering events he is involved in that he never mentions (i.e. the private corporate showcase he sang at right before the BMI awards this week), plus the charity work with his foundation.

Danny did opt not to attend the CMA’s stating he had been so busy this week (we found out in interviews that he was in writing sessions and recorded two songs for his second album along with all the CMA press, etc) and just wanted to watch from home, and today he tweeted about wanting a nap…lol! I guess even the Energizer Bunny needs recharging once in a while!

  23. I think they started it if I am not mistaken.

Yep, someone in the media coined the nickname Glambert for Adam early on, and it caught on fast. Lots of media outlets still use it for him. It was only later that some fans adopted it as their own as well. But Adam’s fanbase has a lot of different factions, and at one point last summer they were all fighting and trolling each other, and Glambert did become an insult of sorts as shorthand for BSC fan. I think with time that’s mellowed out a bit, and now within the fan community it’s used seriously by some fans and ironically by others. However peeps that can’t stand Adam’s fans still use it as an epithet.

I think once Adam said in one of his interviews that he loved the name his little “Glamberts” have been wearing their T-shirts proudly.
I am also getting a kick out of the “Beliebers” and little “Glamberts” love for each other.

  25. Fullmoon:
Here’s another take on Pink/Adam duet. I think I like this version better. It really separates the vocals better.

I have listened to both versions too many times to count and I like them both but I think the Matt Benyo version is my favorite.

  26. Thanks Fullmoon that was interesting to listen to. I think Pink gives the song some grunt & feeling to it .Would be good as a live duet .

  27. I hope Lee and Crystal have been paying attention to the crazy whirlwind/schedules that Danny, Kris and Adam have been on nearly non-stop since coming off AI — because that’s likely going to be their lives for the next 18 months-2 years before they get any sort of real break

  28. By the way, I saw a tweet that Kris gave a shoutout to Danny during his concert in Milwaukee tonight

  29. I have to say this, what the heck is going on with Kris’ hair these days?

  30. Would be good as a live duet .

It would be amazing as a live duet!!

I have to say this, what the heck is going on with Kris’ hair these days?

lol, yeah him and Cook. It’s like one big mess. I guess it’s to cover up the balding.j/k

  32. By the way, I saw a tweet that Kris gave a shoutout to Danny during his concert in Milwaukee tonight

I saw that girlygirl; that was really sweet/funny. If Kris was there next week instead I’m sure Danny probably would have come to the concert because he’ll be in Milwaukee 1 week from now.

Nice black & white pic of Danny, I think perhaps from the Country Hall of Fame signing earlier this week:

  33. Fullmoon, that mashup is amazing! Better than the first one. Thanks for posting.

It would be amazing as a live duet!!

It looks like all the radio stations are picking it up and posting the video on their websites. So far I’ve seen 4, with Adam it goes like wildfire.

  35. Adam’s 11/16 show has been moved to a larger venue.
    Venue Change: Stuttgart
Please note, there is a venue change for the November 16th show in Stuttgart. The show will now be at Theaterhaus. details at adamlambertfans.

  36. he has the ability to find the next Jimi Hendrix, the next Janis Joplin, the next Kid Rock

Um, yeah, good luck with that Tyler. Guess he didn’t get the memo that Idol is looking for the next Justin Beiber this year?

lol, yeah him and Cook. It’s like one big mess. I guess it’s to cover up the balding.j/k

Lol, trufax. No need for the j/k, at least regarding Cook, since he’s pretty much admitted as much. A fan tweeted the If I Can Dream house when he was there asking why he cut hit hair short, and he said, “cuz I’m balding.” In interviews during Idol, he’s mentioned his efforts to play around with the 15 hairs left on his head and cover up the bald spots- fans are pretty sure 2 years later, he may be down to 12… That said, I do think he can and should do something about the stuck my finger in the electric socket look… :)

I like Pink’s version if Whattaya Want From Me- I really love the mashup/ duet though. I think Jim’s article is great press for Adam and Pink andgood buzz. Just my take.

  37. The 2nd interview with Casey was quite good. I could have done without the first one and the take-off-shirt kind of thing. I’m sure Casey is pretty tired of talking about this but he certainly doesn’t show it. He always had the right attitude about this.

It’s nice that they are treating him like an artist and not as a contestant like he said, so he can release the CD he needs to release for his career. Seems like he hit the right recording label. It’s great also that he mentions coming on the show to perform and promote his single or CD. I’m really looking forward to it.

  38. Still on Pink and Adam:

Delurking to suggest that you check out this YouTube. It incorporates Adam’s original WWFM video and Pink’s two other videos. This is very nicely done and helps me tell whether Adam or Pink is singing. Honestly, sometimes it is hard for me to distinguish the two voices.

  39. Did anybody else see the interview with Melinda D before the Veterans’ Day concert airing? I don’t know whether that was shown anywhere but on Maryland Public tv. She was her usual wide-eyed, I’m-shocked-this-is-me self.

She talked about her book and told a story that was new to me (albeit a person who loves her singing but hasn’t followed her life much): She said that she loved to sing as a kid but was completely tone deaf and a terrible singer. When she was in 7th grade, they put her in the choir right in front in the middle (where all us short first-altos/second sops end up) and said they loved her enthusiasm and emoting while singing but would she please not emit any actual sounds. She said she was devastated but determined, so she kept praying and practicing endlessly — not enough money for lessons — and eventually became the (impeccable) singer that she is today. That amazed me. Shows that there’s hope for all, if it’s true, I guess. And I must say I have a hard time seeing Melinda fabricating this. Amazing story. And she was cute, as well as great on the show. Said she particularly loved working with the military (Air Force) band and that this is the second time — said she’s never worked with another band that has such precision. Yep, Mindy D would love orchestral precision. Anyway, nice interview. It was on a show called Art Works, which I think *is* MPT-produced, but I don’t know where else it might be distributed.

    Thank you very much, patience622.
Yes, it’s well done and it helps me distinguish whose voice’s turn it is.
So far I love this vid. the most. I think fans will make more mash up videos from this WWFM. I love both P!nk and Adam. It will be amazing if they do live duet. They both have mutual respect for each other. People will talk more about their music.

Again, thank you very much. Please delurk more (with good stuff.) :)
