Pink Vs. Adam Lambert: Who Has The Better ‘Whataya Want From Me’?

The international edition of Pink’s upcoming Greatest Hits … So Far!!! collection will include her version of Adam Lambert’s megahit “Whataya Want From Me.” It’s a song she recorded (and ultimately dropped) from her 2008 Funhouse album before handing it off to Lambert, who turned it into a platinum-seller.

Pink’s rendition is nearly identical to Adam’s. (Listen to snippets in the embedded video below.) The biggest difference is a pronoun switch in the chorus. One can only assume Pink’s version — which she co-wrote with Max Martin — includes the original lyrics: “He messed me up” versus Adam’s generic “It messed me up.” (In hindsight, it’s a bummer that Team Lambert felt the need to “straighten” the song.)

Nikki Sixx Defends Steven Tyler as ‘American Idol’ Judge

But Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx has now stepped up, joining Tyler in his corner. “I get what he’s trying to do, the whole point of Steven Tyler being on ‘American Idol’ is to not make it cheesy, ” Sixx said on his radio show, ‘Sixx Sense.’

“It’s to have a real artist on there. Steven knows how to dress, so he has style; he knows how to design sets; he knows how to write songs, obviously; he plays instruments; he’s one of the greatest singers and one of the greatest frontmen of all time. So who’s better to judge somebody and give them advice or maybe say they don’t have it than Steven?”

As Sixx explained his position more, it became clear that his view is based on the idea that the show will be a more reputable place of discovery with Tyler on board. “There should be more Steven Tylers on there. So when I talked to Steven about that, we were talking about how he has the ability to find the next Jimi Hendrix, the next Janis Joplin, the next Kid Rock. This is a positive thing for music. This is a pipeline that we usually don’t have.”

Exclusive: Glee Rethinking Super Bowl Strategy

Glee is showing symptoms of tribute fatigue. Despite talk that the Fox hit’s post-Super Bowl episode would be a love letter to either Bruce Springsteen or Michael Jackson, I’m hearing producers are strongly reconsidering the single-singer route.

Word is Ryan Murphy & Co. are leaning toward staging a “regular” episode of Glee after SB XLV featuring music from a variety of artists rather than a stunt-heavy hour, a-la Britney and Madonna.
