Nigel Lythgoe on new ‘American Idol’ judges: No softies on the panel!

“I don’t think there are any softies on this panel, but if you legitimately wow them, they will tell you. They are still in the studio and working currently. They are still making albums and they really know the current business and what people are looking for, so that makes them great judges and sources of information and advice for these young people just starting out or those going down the wrong career path as it were.”

Today is the last day of auditions until Hollywood week, says Fox. The road auditions officially wrap tonight.

Lee DeWyze Talks About His New Album, His Songwriting and Winning American Idol

DeWyze’s love for great singer/songwriters began on Sundays during his childhood when his dad, a postal carrier, would play classic albums for him and his three siblings. He loved everything from Grand Funk Railroad and Kris Kristofferson to Simon & Garfunkel and the Mamas & The Papas, and his passion for Cat Stevens is tattooed on his arm via lyrics to “Father and Son”–that song is a centerpiece on DeWyze’s favorite album, Stevens’ Tea for the Tillerman. When he was 14, DeWyze found his dad’s old guitar in the closet and begged for him to get it re-strung. He learned to play chords on his own using a book of Beatles songs his dad gave him; at one point, he even made up new words to “Yellow Submarine”!

Cheryl gets pie in face for charity

X Factor judge Cheryl Cole graciously accepted a custard pie in the face as royalty and fellow stars honoured some of the nation’s unsung heroes.

The pop star volunteered for the treatment from schoolboy Cameron Small, who won Young Fund Raiser of the Year gong at the Pride of Britain awards on Monday night.

The 12-year-old said he was “shocked” to be embarrassing the singer, adding: “I threw it hard and it hit her right in the face. Then she put some of it on me.”

But Cole – who drew criticism for refusing to send home an X Factor contestant at the weekend – said: “It was a small thing to do for such a brave young man.”

Simon Cowell’s 6th ‘X Factor’ Scandal In UK

Fox brass are getting more and more nervous about the way Simon Cowell is conducting this controversial but lucrative 7th series of The X Factor in the UK before the show comes to the U.S. in Fall 2011. Viewers are ringing up ITV and TV regulator Ofcom complaining that Sunday’s vote show was rigged. They’re mad because Treyc Cohen, 28, was booted off The X Factor after a sing-off with tabloid favourite Katie Waissel, whose panic attacks and other escapades make for better ratings than Cohen’s serviceable voice but dull presence.

How producers rigged X Factor voting shambles: Dermot was ordered to take majority verdict after Cheryl refused to vote

Millions watched as Miss Cole dithered over whether to plump for Treyc Cohen or Katie Waissel.

Yesterday, however, O’Leary revealed how Miss Cole’s apparently agonising decision had actually been decided by show bosses during the commercial break – as more cynical viewers perhaps might have suspected all along.

‘We thought it might happen before the break when we found out who was in the bottom two, ’ he said.

‘We decided if she wasn’t going to vote, we would go to the majority verdict.’

Backstage at DWTS: Bristol Palin Reveals Secret to Making It This Far

“I think lots of people see themselves in me because I’m pretty untouched when it comes to celebrity status, ” Bristol told us (with a straight face). “I’m pretty raw and vulnerable when it comes to this whole thing. I’m just having fun and people see that.”

Kurt Warner Thinks It’s “Unfair” He Was Voted Off ABC’s DWTS

Kurt Warner tells UsMagazine.com his Dancing With the Stars days shouldn’t be over.

After he was eliminated on Tuesday’s show, he sarcastically told Us backstage, “Gosh it was unfair! I mean, I think we all feel, in some way, it is unfair when we get voted off.
