Jason Castro’s Who I Am

American Idol never found a kid like Jason Castro before Season 7. Each week, he won the crowd over with his acoustic sound, warm smile, and cool dreads. After releasing his debut album last spring, the Texas based singer/songwriter is confirming his relationship with God in his new release called Who I Am. Five of the tracks are favorites from the debut record, while the others are original songs exploring life, love, and faith. The first generation American (his parents emigrated from Colombia) recently spoke with CBN.com about Who I Am and how his walk with the Lord shapes his music and his purpose.

Theater Review: “Women On The Verge” Of Bad

Neither the complete train wreck some people predicted nor the fizzy blast of fun promised by the marriage of Pedro Almodovar’s classic comedy with songs, Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown is simply a new musical that doesn’t work and has almost no good songs. Undoubtedly Laura Benanti will be singled out for her winning performance (it helps that she has the only good song) — they might say she’s the only one to remain unscathed by a show overstuffed with talent. But in fact, no one is hurt here. It was a great idea and simply didn’t work. It happens.

The two people to benefit the most from this unfortunate misfire are former American Idol finalist Guarini and Benanti. Guarini probably wisely avoided making his Broadway debut with the Beach Boys musical Good Vibrations, which he was involved with during its early stages. This is a much better showcase for his genuine talent. Guarini sings nicely, especially in his tune with Mitchell, “The Microphone.” And he gets to be sexily paired to stammering delight with Benanti. Benanti doesn’t ham it up — that’s not quite the right word for her charm here. But she relishes the ditzy, over the top nuttiness of her character (dating a terrorist, falling off the balcony, flirting with Guarini) and is clearly the one person having a blast throughout. Certainly no one else could be.

Meghan McCain scoffs at Obama interview with Seacrest; Seacrest bites back

John McCain’s daughter, Meghan went on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” Wednesday to demonstrate her complete lack of understanding on the use of entertainment programming for political gain.

First, she nicked President Obama for having done an interview Tuesday with Ryan Seacrest on Seacrest’s syndicated radio show.

“I just think it’s — not so presidential to do an interview with the producer of the ‘Kardashians’…I’m one of the people that still holds the office of the presidency very seriously, and I think it’s kind of trashy, ” Meghan sniffed.

UPDATE: Thursday morning, Seabiscuit struck back, noting on his radio show that Meghan has tried to get herself booked on said show several times. He trotted out his show’s booker, Amy Sugarman, to confirm the fact. Sugarman wondered why Seabiscuit was bringing this up.
