Sony Music Revenues Drop 11%
Sony Music’s revenue dropped nearly 11% in Sony’s fiscal second quarter ended September 30, 2010, showing just how much Michael Jackson contributed to the company’s 2009 performance. Revenue was $1.33 billion and operating income was $98 million.
In the last two years Sony Music’s revenue has dropped about 12.7% even though revenue sank 11% in just the last 12 months.

Sony Music Cuts Staff
Sony Music Entertainment let go of about 15 staffers on Wednesday including about a dozen at its Sony U.S. Music Sales unit. Among the staffers no longer with the company are: senior VP of channel marketing Kevin Twitchell, VP of field marketing Tony Camardo and sales Colleen Andersen, who oversees the Amazon account.

Country singer Jason Aldean’s fourth studio album, My Kinda Party, doesn’t drop until Nov. 2, but you can hear what could be its second single, a power ballad duet with Kelly Clarkson called “Don’t You Want to Stay, ” on EW.com today.
”When I was listening to this song, it was a pretty short list of who I thought could pull it off and who I wanted, and she was on top of it. We went in to cut her stuff, and I come into the studio with my wife and my two girls, ” he recalls, laughing. “She’s a sweetheart. She wasn’t a pop star who was there to handle her business and leave. She was very cool, very personable, and very grateful that we had thought of her to do the song.”

Brandy Dances to New Tune for Girl Who Needs Heart
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – She is wowing fans on the reality TV contest “Dancing With the Stars” but behind the scenes this week, singer/actress Brandy has been in a more important competition. She is racing against time to help save the life of a teenager who needs a heart transplant.
Brandy, who gained fame as chart topping R&B singer and actress on the TV show “Moesha, ” has been raising awareness and money for 16-year-old Jessica Harris, who suffers from a congenital heart defect. Known as hypoplastic left heart syndrome, the condition can be fatal.
“I just want to do whatever I can to get her story out there in the public, ” Brandy told Reuters. “You hear a lot of stories like these, but this one just connected to me.”
