Paula Abdul preps for her new CBS show, laments the loss of the original ‘Idol’ family

While Abdul touted the additions as “seasoned entertainers” and asked “the heavens above” to supply them with the same amount of fun she had, she was also quick note the loss in what had made “Idol” special.

“It’s a completely different show now, ” she said. “But, you know, change is necessary at times. It’s really difficult to try to duplicate lightning in a bottle with the chemistry that just worked with Randy, Simon and myself. We’re the original family. I’m glad Randy is there at the helm and that Ryan’s there. There needs to be some of that familiarity there. But it’s not the same.”

Asked whether she might reunite with Simon Cowell on his U.S. version of “The X-Factor” in 2011, Abdul was coy:

“Right now my concentration is solely on this show … and my Chihuahuas. It’s extremely difficult to think about anything other than ‘Live to Dance’ … at this moment.”

Audrina Patridge’s Mom Apologizes For Videotaped Tirade

“I am sincerely sorry for the negative things I said in the heat of the moment, ” Lynn said.

She added that her comments came from a place of deep love for her daughter and were said while she was still in shock from Audrina’s surprise elimination from Dancing with the Stars.

“As a mother, there is no pain in this world like seeing your children upset. I am so proud of my daughter and all she has accomplished on Dancing with the Stars. I was extremely emotional after her elimination–it just came as such a shock. I want to apologize for offending anyone.”

  1. How sad am I that a simple change of Twitter background can create a tingle of excitement, but I’m kind of hoping that it might indicate other things might start changing/moving…soon?

    Oh – and I like that photo…

  2. Right there with you fadetowhite. The new background looks a lot more rockstar and a lot less American Idol Winner than the previous twitter background did, and assuming it’s part of some larger reworking of his media that perhaps says some good things about the record. A fan can hope right?

  3. this new photo of cook has very natural feeling– personality wise.. just like what i’ve said in the other thread, it’s so him.. i’m excited for the new album cover as well…

ETA: the background art/graphics?? it has change but still has similarities to the dctr1 cover, i bet he that’s his personal choice of graphic art

  4. That’s a pretty kick ass promo schedule and nice Vibe Rater writer-up!

So now I wonder if that new DC pic is for RCA? I’m assuming that’s the shoot he tweeted about that he used the AC guitar for..

  5. Oh the Cookie picture is this thread now. That’s what I get for working and being stuck in one thread.

Anyhew, yep. Still a great picture, and now I can just have it up here as part of this thread. Definitely pretties up the joint.

  6. Fourplay’s “Love TKO” featuring guest vocals by Ruben Studdard sounds very much like the original. I was hoping for something new and interesting.

  7. Nice to see that Danny will be part of the festivities and is included during the promotion for the CMA’s .

  8. Nice to see that Danny will be part of the festivities and is included during the promotion for the CMA’s .

Was nice to see Danny’s name mentioned with the other big names in country music and included in the half hour ABC special leading up to the awards. Also looking forward to seeing Carrie co-host again this year and Kellie as a presenter.

  9. Wow, that pic of David Cook just made my evening better. I have missed seeing him, he is looking good.

  10. That is a very cool photo graphic of Dave. Very nice. I love that interplay between fierce Dave and caj~ Dave. And yes, he is looking mighty fine – the workout/health plan agrees with him. More! More! (And some new music would be nice). Yeah, you know you’re getting desperate when a change of twitter photo gets the fanbase all aflutter.

  11. Oh, I like that — I like the graphic background, the colors and the duality in the image. I guess that’s the end of the Serial Killer Lament – asking why the “Official” photos couldn’t be half as accurate a representation as some of the excellent fan photos were. I’d like to see that replace the outdated images much of the media is using too.

It works for an album cover also – IMO, Of Course.

  12. Well aren’t I glad I popped by to get a nice new David Cook picture :) I thought he looked mighty fit and trim at Busch Gardens and… yup. The whole trainer thing is working for him. (And yes, this poor fandom – any little bone thrown at us right now gets us all aflutter, lol).

  13. Fourplay’s “Love TKO” featuring guest vocals by Ruben Studdard sounds very much like the original. I was hoping for something new and interesting.

I thought the new version has a smoother approach to the song to complement Ruben’s voice and style. Teddy Pendergrass had a heavier, huskier vocal, which gave the original an almost blues-y quality. Teddy’s original is like rye whiskey. Ruben’s is more a fancy red wine. Both are in the liquor store, but on different shelves.

Changing “Love TKO” too much would be considered sacrilege by most in the R&B/jazz community, especially with Pendergrass’ passing earlier this year. Both Fourplay and Ruben realize that. Their version is a tribute, probably more than a traditional cover.

I thought it was very good. But different strokes for different folks.

  14. Was nice to see Danny’s name mentioned with the other big names in country music and included in the half hour ABC special leading up to the awards.

I hope there is some camera time with him and not just a little concert snippet from when he did the fanfest big concert opening.

Loving the new Cook picture also; very nice! :)

  15. Re: The David Cook photo. If you click on it, it opens into a bigger shot.

OH! That is VERY nice! Thanks, MJ ;)

  16. Re: The David Cook photo. If you click on it, it opens into a bigger shot.

    And I did enjoy that… muchly ;)

Thank you Mr. Trainer. (His trainer also posts a lot of kick butt workout videos – he even tweeted me back when I asked for advice on how not to die doing them when you’re not so in shape, heh)

  17. The David Cook photo. If you click on it, it opens into a bigger shot.

Nice. Beatles themed tee shirt, new necklace, IDK if those are permanent tats on the knuckles, but they work for the image, big ring you can barely see -all in silver shades and smoky grey/browns – the duality, just as in the 12 foot tall stage David and the chill dude. It’s hot and it’s cool!

    Thanks, MJ.

  18. Ahhhh…why Wordnerdarchie, why????

It is a remarkable transformation fer sure.

  19. What a nice surprise that Danny Gokey will be included in the Road to the CMAs ABC special. I’m really impressed with the breadth of opportunities Danny has received in this last year with RCA Nashville. They must know that he is a true gem!

This little snippet of a video from a Coke/AMA interview of Danny is so cute:

  20. Balance, as Dave would say “It’s all about progression”. :)

  21. I love that new avi and twitter pic of David Cook. It is much nicer than the old Dave. It shows his personality. Very nice, plus is he hot or what?

  22. Great news about Danny and the Road to the CMAs. Have to admit – somewhat star struck to see Danny’s name listed with all those Country music veterans. This is what building a career is all about. I remember last year at this time we were just hoping to get a glimpse of him at the CMAs.

  23. Sure enjoying the photo of David!

Glad to see Siobhan get out more. I hope she will sing.

  24. How did this guy turn into the guy posted in this thread. *shakes head*

Should I confess that I was just watching lovely HD versions of some of his Idol performances the other night when I was trying to stay awake to proofread some more… and I was laughing at that performance, remembering that I thought he looked like the Joker and I kinda hated him? Hee. Talk about progression :)

  25. and I was laughing at that performance, remembering that I thought he looked like the Joker and I kinda hated him?

LOL…I recently came across an old non-idol related message board post that I made after this performance. I said I was sad because I really liked the guys voice but there was no way America would vote for someone with such terribly unfortunate hair. Little did I know….

  26. I can’t believe the difference between original Idol DC and the new DC. You would never think it was the same guy unless someone told you. He looks amazing right now. That new picture would be a great album cover. And Incipit, those are definitely some kind of rings, not tattoos. I don’t think he would ever tattoo his fingers like that lol.

  27. Woot! New David Cook picture! Haha, there is such shortage of real news on David that we’re all aflutter over a twitter picture change… but seriously, this is big! I do loathe the DCTR stalker background… can we change DCO next? Too much to ask? Fine… I guess logically, we’ll have to wait til DCTR2…

Thanks, MJ, for posting the enlargeable version of the pic. He looks great… but WTF is which those knuckle things? Are they.. polka dots?! (Always something to complain about in Dave-land hah)

  28. WTF is which those knuckle things? Are they.. polka dots?!

I’d guess they are metal studs on brass knuckles. Some brass knuckles are…accessorized.

Personally, I think it edges over to OTT with that, but I like so much of the rest of the photo and composition that I’ll let it slide.

  29. *Confesses to not noticing odd knuckle-wear because… c’mon, you know me… I get distracted by the lips*

    :)

  30. MJ, thanks for posting the link to Ruben’s recording with Fourplay. Ruben is the best R&B singer to come out of idol, imho. Buying it.

  31. So, does this picture mean that someone has finally successfully cloned David Cook? If so, I’ll take a baker’s dozen, please. (Save some for stocking stuffers, you know. ;) )

Hee, he looks great. And that picture’s subtly provocative, kinda Dr. Cookie/Mr. Hawt. Or maybe a little Tyler Durden-ish. The first rule of weird brass knuckles club…you don’t talk about weird brass knuckles club.

Hmmm…. lots of room there to fit an album title or two. Jes saying.

  32. That is a cute video of Danny – the AMA one. And he certainly looks good in it :)

Can’t wait to watch the AMA pre-show; it will be pretty fun I think.

  33. How did this guy turn into the guy posted in this thread. *shakes head*

And yet we still loved him. Love is blind maybe? LOL

Honestly, I don’t think he’s ever looked better. Whatever he’s doing, he needs to keep it up!

  34. Looking pretty fine there Mr. Cook. Do we dare say those are new promo shots?

  35. The first rule of weird brass knuckles club…you don’t talk about weird brass knuckles club.

Sunchick, you crack me up. Haha fine, I won’t talk of them… Can’t wait to see the rest of the shoot though, especially the ones with the ol AC guitar…

  36. And that picture’s subtly provocative, kinda Dr. Cookie/Mr. Hawt.

    Hahaha….that captures the pic perfectly.

  37. Hi MJ – Thanks for posting the video for Sons of Sylvia’s new single. WOW. LOVE that group. They are amazingly talented. Can’t wait to see them live.

Love the video. And may I say ….whew ….that guy is H-O-T!
