“We’re a little tougher on everybody, ” the judge told PEOPLE at a Samsung Hope for Children event supporting the Maribel Foundation in Los Angeles. “Because of last season and the standard that we set, it’s easy to go, ‘Is he as good as even our top 24 from last year?’ ”

Performers have been announced for Cyndi Lauper & Friends: Home for the Holidays, to be presented at Beacon Theatre on Sunday, December 4, at 8pm.

At the event, Lauper will be joined by Clay Aiken, Vanessa Carlton, Alan Cumming, Deluka, Harvey Fierstein, Skylar Grey, Debbie Harry, Amy Lee, Angelique Kidjo, Carson Kressley, Norah Jones, Rosie O’Donnell, Wanda Sykes, Cassandra Wilson, and Chely Wright.

Lauren Alaina to perform at Track 29 Dec. 7

“American Idol” runner-up and Rossville teenager Lauren Alaina will perform a benefit concert Dec. 7 at Track 29, the new music venue on the Chattanooga Choo Choo campus.

US-101 is sponsoring the show, which will be open to all ages, according to Big Daddy Kyle Croft, assistant production director at Clear Channel Chattanooga. Proceeds will go to Clear Channel’s Christmas for Kids program and the Forgotten Child Fund.

Go Backstage With the ‘X Factor’ Over-30’s

Tuesday night on “The X Factor, ” the top 17 became the top 12. And it is a very strong top 12. While certain contestants are early frontrunners–either based on memorable first auditions, a disproportionate amount of screentime, or excellent performances this week on the first live show–really, almost all of them seem to have a decent chance of winning this thing. It will be fascinating to see how this all pans out.

Daughtry ‘Wanted To Look Cool’ In ‘Crawling Back To You’ Video

“It didn’t make Leave This Town, and a lot of times, after being away from the songs for a good amount of time, you either go back and go, ‘OK, there’s a reason that didn’t make the record; it’s junk, ‘ or you go, ‘Man, there’s something really cool about that song, but it’s not quite there yet, ‘ ” he told MTV News. “And the more we listened to it, the more we were like, ‘Man, it gets to that moment, and then it’s a letdown.’ So we realized the chorus wasn’t quite right, and when I was working with [producer] Marti [Frederiksen] again for this record, we went back to it, and he goes, ‘Let’s try going here, man, ‘ and I came up with the melody and that was it.”

Norfolk actor lands a role on TV’s ‘Glee’

The Norfolk native was backstage at a theater in Tucson, Ariz., where he was performing in the national Broadway tour of “West Side Story.” After the first act, he checked his cellphone, and his manager had left a cryptic message, asking him to call him back but “no rush.”

Gustin couldn’t wait, and he learned that he’d landed a buzz-worthy role on “Glee, ” the popular Fox TV musical comedy.
