OK! Interview: Kris Allen is Honored by Little Kids Rock

So “Alright With Me” is the next single. Were you aware that the fans were really pushing for that to be single No. 2?
Yea, oh yeah [laughs]. I was excited to see what was going to happen with “The Truth.” I didn’t know what was going to happen. I know a lot of the fans really wanted “Alright With Me, ” but it just became the decision to do “The Truth.” We thought it would be the best thing. And it did what it did. I don’t think you can say that it was unsuccessful. It was fine. I think that the potential that “Alright With Me” has is really good. I think it’s a great song, I think it’s an earworm. I think it gets caught in your head which is all part of it. I love that the fans really love it. When we decided to make it the third single, I hadn’t listened to the track in awhile because that’s part of it. We play it live and it sounds great. I went back and listened to it and was like, “Wow, I really love this track.” That’s why we put it on the album. It’s one of my favorites for sure.

The fans are very excited.
They are really excited.

When you posted that you were about to announce the new single and then you waited like five minutes…
[Laughs] Yeah, that was on purpose. I kept looking at what people were saying: “Is it going to be this?” or “Is it going to be that?” “This is my favorite song.”

Jordin Sparks discusses life on Broadway

NEW YORK – There was a time when Jordin Sparks thought dealing with Simon Cowell was tough. But Cowell was a pushover compared to the rigors of Broadway, which have tested the mettle of this Grammy-nominated songstress who, at age 17, became the youngest-ever winner of “American Idol.”

Vocal strain and an injured hip kept her offstage for several performances soon after making her Broadway debut, in August, in the Tony-winning hit “In the Heights.” But Sparks, now 20, got back on track thanks to physical therapy and her own brand of perky determination.

Working ‘9 to 5’

“I try to give as much as Dolly as I can. I have the accent down and the walk with the little wiggle, but the rest is just me — except for the blond wig and the little bit of stuffing, ” said DeGarmo, who was born in Birmingham. “Unfortunately, I don’t have Dolly’s figure.”

Along with originating the role of Doralee, Parton wrote and performed the film’s hit song “9 to 5, ” which landed at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“Everyone loves that song, ” DeGarmo said. “It is something everyone can sing along to, and it’s what we open and close the show with.”

American Idol Finalist Bucky Covington to headline Rayne Frog Festival

The Rayne Frog Festival is reaching new heights in musical entertainment with the culmination of the event’s headlining appearance by American Idol Finalist and Country Recording Artist Bucky Covington on Saturday, November 13th beginning at 10:30pm and playing until 12:00midnight under the festival pavilion.

Bucky Covington’s road to Nashville came down to convincing just one person. He had impressed millions with his talent and charisma on “American Idol, ” making it to the final eight during the 2006 season, but it was something else that sold him to Sawyer Brown frontman and producer Mark Miller. “There was a quality in his voice that was honest, ” says Miller. “I believed him when he sang.”

VIDEO: Fantasia Candid About Overcoming Stress and Sadness

“After all the stuff that I’ve been through, there comes a time where you either continue to let certain things go on in your life that bring you down… or you stand up and say, ‘Hey, I’m gonna do me. I’m gonna wake up in the morning and do what I feel like, ‘” Fantasia tells ET on the set of her music video for (the fittingly titled) “I’m Doin’ Me.”

Hospitalized in August for an accidental overdose of aspirin and a sleep aid and, prior to that, accused of having an affair with a married man, the 26-year-old singer says she’s gradually finding her way out of the gloom.

“There’s some days where I have to take time for myself and I forgot about so much of that, ” she says. “Music, for me, is what kind of brought me out of the closet of feeling like, ‘I don’t want to deal with people, I don’t wanna deal with this, I don’t wanna deal with that…”

Glee’s renditions of Journey’s arena-rock anthem “Don’t Stop Believin'” have sold a combined total of 1 million digital copies, as of this week. Jane Lynch ‘Felt Difference’ Immediately After Marriage

Jane Lynch left Sue Sylvester’s wardrobe of tracksuits back on the ‘Glee’ set and instead dons a leopard print robe while surrounded by male models for her spread in the November issue of More magazine, where she sounds off on her hit FOX show and her marriage to Lara Embry.

The Emmy-winning actress was already committed to two other series (Starz’s ‘Party Down’ and an ABC project) when she was offered the role of Sue on ‘Glee.’ Believe it or not, this meant that for the first four episodes of the series, Lynch’s status was temporary. “We were keeping our fingers crossed that I got to stay, ” she says.

At 50, Lynch also reflects on her recent marriage: “I shouldn’t say this, but I’d never dated anyone that I wanted to marry. I didn’t think it was going to be out there for me. But the minute we were married, I felt the difference: I felt like I am no longer alone.”

Lea Michele’s Movie Debut: Happy New Year!

The Glee star is in final talks to make her movie debut in New Year’s Eve, the follow-up to Garry Marshall’s mega-ensemble hit Valentine’s Day. No word yet on Michele’s character or storyline, but sources tell me that Marshall wants her big-time.

I’m also told the director’s going after Zac Efron—again. The Charlie St. Cloud actor had been approached for Valentine’s Day to play the role that eventually went to Taylor Lautner.

  1. Idols Help Keep Music Education in Schools

Aww, that makes me so happy :)

Also excited for Crystal that Holy Toledo made her album. That is a song I really associate with her and bonus that she got to introduce it to a wide audience on Idol. I cannot wait to hear her songs and see what her album production sounds like.

  2. Crystal Bowersox confirmed “Holy Toledo”

First Farmer´s Daughter and now Holy Toledo, that´s two up and ? to go… for solo originals. Waiting now for some unexpected surprises

This is good only if Jive and Gina Orr are committed to promoting this type of music. There is a market for it, but that market isn’t going to be reached in the usual ways.

  4. Great OK! interview of Kris. can’t wait for part II.

Boo for no Ellen, and Ryan Seacrest radio – yeah good luck to get spins on that radio.
KISS FM Los Angeles never played LLWD except on the debut day on that Friday.
I’ll be surprised but happy IF Ryan will play AWM.

  5. Really good interview with Kris at OK! Rana asked some excellent questions, and Kris is really on fire in these interviews lately.

It does make me sad though to hear him talk about how the nasty tweets and comments on websites affected him. I’m glad he didn’t let the bullies win.

    Thanks for this interview MJ.
I’m so glad that the tweets are now mostly positive & that he recognises there will always be the “crazies” who post awful things- but now knows not to take them to heart.
It is great to see Kris so upbeat about everything these days & it shows in all his interviews.
I would love it if all the band were in the video for AWM- great idea.

  7. I just love Adam’s calendar cover, can’t wait to see it close up. I am so glad I ordered a copy.

Lucky for us fans, our favorites live in a time when “the usual ways” are only a single segment of the market.

I don’t understand people who lament how we’re living in such a cookie-cutter age, when you have to fit in this tiny box to be successful, and everyone sounds like everyone else. (I’m not suggesting that you said that—because you didn’t—but a lot of people do.)

Anyway, they say that, when in fact we’ve all got the tools at our fingertips to hear song after song by band after band that would have never crossed our radar back in the dark ages when I was first discovering my own kinda music. We can listen to snippets and talk to established fans and know everything about an artist down to the color of their underwear before we ever plunk down a dime. That’s awesome if you ask me.

The point of this post is: if Crystal’s music is good, and based on what I’ve seen of her so far I expect it to be, it will find a bigger audience than she’s ever had before. She’s also got thousands of us in her corner, doing that whole word-of-mouth thing (not a “usual channel,” tho it certainly should be).

Even if she never hits Top 40, she’ll still be doing what she loves and if I remember her own words correctly, that’s her view of success. It’s mine too, for all the Idols and anyone else who’s serious about this crazy business called entertainment. Cuz if it weren’t for them, I’d be doing housework right now.

  9. I’m actually surprised to hear that Holy Toledo will be on Crystal’s album. I didn’t think a major label would put a song on an album that refers to a city in what most people consider “flyover country.” I’m not saying I don’t think it’s a good song because I do think it is, just surprised.

Did I miss when it was confirmed that Farmer’s Daughter would be on the album? I thought we were all assuming that but didn’t know it for sure, lol.

  10. moz, it sounds like Crystal herself said so on the Devil–I mean, Twitter. (See headline above.)

  11. That calendar cover is awesome! It would make a good album cover, also, yes? ;)

  12. Lol… They say a clean house means the computer is broken!!
Yes, we live in an age of choices and information. I like being able to see and hear songs I would never have heard if not for YouTube. But you have to have that initial contact to know who to look for. So I’m glad for this introduction.

  13. I prefer the picture of the calendar cover from further away. I saw it earlier and wasn’t feeling it. It’s growing on me.

I love Adam but a calendar shouldn’t cost the same amount as a ticket to his show.

  14. That’s a very cool calendar cover. Adam’s friend Lee is very talented.

Lol…the devil. That was confirmation of Holy Toledo though I thought? Not Farmer’s Daughter?

  16. oh, and OT, but yay for the Texas Rangers making it to the World Series for the first time — ever! (buh-bye Yankees :) )

  17. mozart4898:

Lol…the devil. That was confirmation of Holy Toledo though I thought? Not Farmer’s Daughter?

Wish I could take the credit for that one, but I think Kris said it first.

Gah. I *know* I saw it somewhere that FD was confirmed. At least I think I did. AI is making this old lady’s brain work too hard. Lemme look.

  18. KISS FM Los Angeles never played LLWD except on the debut day on that Friday.

They never played IIHY either and it fit their format. Well, maybe not 100% but if they can play Bulletproof and Selena Gomez, then they can play IIHY!

  19. It does make me sad though to hear him talk about how the nasty tweets and comments on websites affected him. I’m glad he didn’t let the bullies win.

TwigLA—To make lemonade out of lemons: INTK came out of Kris’ feelings last summer. Maybe he had to go thru all the bad stuff to be able to write such a beautiful song? As bad as twitter got, you’re right, the bullies didn’t win. And now, things have calmed down on twitter for him, so all is good!

  20. Anyway, they say that, when in fact we’ve all got the tools at our fingertips to hear song after song by band after band that would have never crossed our radar back in the dark ages when I was first discovering my own kinda music. wjmtv, u always have a way of perfectly expressing thoughts. i agree! i still remember those days of waiting endlessly for radio plays & cassette tapes. technology has truly evolved & i for one am happy about it. we easily get the info that we need from our fave artist, discover & learn about new ones, & even get to connect with them via all these social networks. i just wish all these musicians (idols), especially lee & crystal, well! hope they get to share their awesome talent to more people out there, this is just the beginning of their journey.

Cuz if it weren’t for them, I’d be doing housework right now.

    lol! so true!

  21. Cuz if it weren’t for them, I’d be doing housework right now.

Never thought of blaming them for my messy apt. Thanks for the tip wjmtv, I feel much better now

  22. ITA wjmtv and twinkle80

I’m happy to have so much music knowledge at my fingertips :)

  23. That Lee Cherry calendar cover is awesome (overused word that it is!). Worth every cent & I can’t wait to see the other 12 photos!

  24. There’s some days where I have to take time for myself and I forgot about so much of that,” she says.

I hope she takes time for her daughter, too. Fantasia doesn’t exactly say this.

Glad to see so many of the Idols are working and doing what they love!

  25. I don’t think that I’ve ever heard an Idol contestant publically announce which songs will be on their CD in advance. I hope that Crystal gets the songs that she wants on her CD, but usually those decisions aren’t made until the last minute, and they are primarily made by the label.
