The Voice 25 Battle: Maddi Jane vs Nadège Slay a Lauryn Hill Classic, Start a Coaches Frenzy!

The Voice 25 Battle - Maddie Jane vs Nadège - Team Chance

The Voice 25 Battle: Maddi Jane and Nadège face off for a spot on Team Chance the Rapper

The Voice 25 Battle rounds continue for a second night on Tuesday (March 19). In a new preview clip from NBC, Maddi Jane and Nadège face off for a spot on Team Chance the Rapper.

The two join forces for a duet of Lauryn Hill’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You.” The song is from the 60s, originally recorded by The Four Seasons. The singers perform a jazzy version of the song, while harmonizing beautifully on the chorus.

Maddi Jane lets a few big notes loose, while Nadège offers a few tasty riffs. Chance made sure that each artist got their chance to shine.

Dan Smyers from Dan + Shay said, “You guys both have what it takes to go really, really far in this show. It was just so good.” He wishes the performance was longer. Shay Mooney added, “You guys commanded the attention that song deserved.” He called Maddi’s swagger “just crazy” adding “I was like ‘oh I feel like I’m in a video game right now’.”

John warns Chance that he’s ready to use his Steal on the loser!

“I fought for both of you, and I’m so jealous that you are not on Team Legend right now,” said John Legend. “Aside from my team, I think you two have been my favorites because you’ve found your own ways of being yourself, while also being great together.” He felt that every melodic choice she made was “flawless” boasting a “superstar swagger.” As far as Nadège is concerned, John said, “You make offbeat melodic choices I would have never thought to do. You hit all the notes really beautifully.” John hinted that he may steal somebody.

Reba McEntire said, “You shared the stage like professionals. Your vocals are just so, as Chance would say, ‘dope’.” Reba asked to hear three or four more songs to help them make the decision.

Chance felt “fulfilled” by the performance. Nadège has something that’s “pure and earnest and real” about her, he said The coach complimented her runs, which he called “intricate and a little jazzy.” Maddi has a “superstar presence” which attracts people, he said, adding, “You have an amazing vocal strength.”

Who will Chance eliminate? He still has his Playoffs Pass which allows him to save an artist and send them straight to the Playoffs. Or will John or another coach STEAL a contestant?

Tune into NBC on Tuesday March 19 at 9 pm ET/PT to find out. The Voice also streams next day on Peacock.

UPDATE: Chance picks Maddi. John and Dan + Shay steal Nadège. John begins his pitch WASTE OF TIME. Chance uses his Playoff Pass. The Pass overrides a Steal. Nadège moves on to the Playoffs. (Read our Recap)
