Howard Stern Mad at Maksim: ‘Who Is This Guy to Smack Brandy on the A**?’

“The first season these dance instructors were normal people. They’re not exactly living the high life. They put them on TV and they develop personalities, ” said Stern. “They all have become full of themselves. And Maksim is very taken with himself. He doesn’t like to be criticized. The whole show is being criticized and he doesn’t like it.”

“Well, he is dancing with Brandy … This guy is yelling at her, giving her the business about how she has to work harder, ” Stern continued. “She’s being a good sport about it, pretending like this actually matters if they’re dancing the f***ing samba correctly. All of the sudden, while he’s training her he starts smacking her on the ass.”

  1. Loved that interview with Adam- the guys were really cool andmaybe it’s a good thing Malaysia cannot talk about homosexuality because there was no focus on that- just the music ( and fashion which I am sure Adam loved). They sounded like they really wanted to read that book too, lol.

So he is staying firm with spring or summer for the album and no new single for the states. That’s cool I guess. If he starts in December that gives him a good 4 or 5 months to work on it. I can wait for the new era.

  2. AWE! A boy and a girl for Neil Patrick Harris!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

  3. pffft to no other single for Adam from FYE. Seriously think not releasing SW is a mistake. I mean heck, they could just ‘release it to radio’ the way they have for other singles for other AIers and just do some promotion inbetween writing.

Oh and of course, I’m very happy for Neil and his husband.

Still think that rushing the next album isn’t a great idea. I mean, don’t take forever to make it, but just a few months doesn’t make for a quality product.

  4. maybe it’s a good thing Malaysia cannot talk about homosexuality because there was no focus on that- just the music

No, I really don’t even think it is a good thing even if it means Adam Lambert gets asked other questions in an interview.

  5. Maybe not a “good” thing, but very nice to see an interview without the usual requisite of it being mentioned!

  6. pffft to no other single for Adam from FYE. Seriously think not releasing SW is a mistake. I mean heck, they could just ‘release it to radio’ the way they have for other singles for other AIers and just do some promotion inbetween writing.

I think it’s the right decision. I am a firm believer in a breathing period between albums, so there is more anticipation. Not too long, but just enough for there to be a renewed interest in the artist having another song out, and to kind of make a clear delineation between album periods.

ETA I think Katy Perry is a good example. Their was about a year release between Waking Up in Vegas and California Gurls, and I think that worked well for her because she seemed to be running out of steam with Waking Up in Vegas, and then came roaring back with California Gurls and a bit of a different sound.

  7. Per Brian Mansfield of USA Today (posted in the comments section of the Weekend Memo.

Kris Allen sold 1,000 copies of “I Need to Know” after it aired on “The Vampire Diaries.” That was a 1,000% increase over the previous week. Release-to-date sales for the track: 7,000.

    I guess I was one of those 1000. It’s a great song.

  8. I think it’s the right decision. I am a firm believer in a breathing period between albums, so there is more anticipation. Not too long, but just enough for there to be a renewed interest in the artist having another song out, and to kind of make a clear delineation between album periods.

I totally agree with you. For a while, I thought Rihanna’s new single, “The Only Girl in the World”, was a fourth single off of her last album. I just found out it’s the lead single from her new album, which is coming out almost exactly a year to the day after her last one. Talk about overkill, especially since the girl got lackluster reviews and several cancelled dates for her summer tour this year. Same goes for Kesha (refuse to stylize her name with the $), who just released a new single that sounds EXACTLY like her other stuff, and her debut album isn’t even a year old yet. Overkill, overkill, overkill!

  9. pffft to no other single for Adam from FYE. Seriously think not releasing SW is a mistake. I mean heck, they could just ‘release it to radio’ the way they have for other singles for other AIers and just do some promotion inbetween writing.

Well it is sounding like just the US will not get another single. And that is a Pfffffft in my book. They could just release SW to HAC in the US and see what happens. If it is a hit find, shift it to pop but if is not Adam has two pop hits.

Once again, he said “They want the new album out Late Spring or Summer.” So seems like that is the schedule. That would mean a new single in Spring and that is not so far away.

  10. then came roaring back with California Gurls and a bit of a different sound.

This is the first good argument that I’ve heard for not releasing SW. I DO think that his next album will have a different flavor than the debut. I think upon reflection, he’ll be tightening his sound up.

  11. Congrats to Neil and David!

As for Adam, did you hear him say that they may release Fever in Malaysia. It’s a sad reflection on America that Fever could be considered in such a homophobic country when the radios won’t play it in America. Fever should have been released in the US.

  12. Great interview with Adam. Seems like everyone was having so much fun. Shows you What a misconception I think we were given. I felt like I was listening to a top Radio Station in USA that has really cool DJ. In-fact Better then a lot of them. There seemed to be no tension and the interviewers genuinely favored Adam. Malaysia is just like most nations, There are conservatives, liberals, religious extremist, Religious moderates, Those who love pop and Rock n Roll, those who don’t. Though Malaysia maybe a conservative country they are also not a monolithic society. Seem to be very similar to us only Muslim is their main religion where as ours is Christianity. Really cool and again great interview and the DJ’s asked some good questions with a very warm and friendly vibe. I am glad this interview was posted and give a multi-dimensional look at Malaysia. I know I don’t like it when the USA is projected as a one dimensional society.

Congrats to Neil Patrick Harris and his partner

Question for those much more in tune with how things go with the music biz. Adam says a release of album 2 will be either late Spring or early Summer could that possibly mean a single around March or April (or maybe even Late February) That won’t be too bad. But if they are also releasing an acoustic EP what are they going to use to promote it. I thought Sleepwalker could have been a great song to help push the acoustic album or even Aftermath.

  13. There are a few rational arguments for not releasing another FYE single in the US. A break between projects is normal and sensible. It also costs a lot to promote a single in the US effectively (to get airplay) and if FYE is in the black, then that could put it back into the red. If it behaves like WWFM it will muck up a Spring single release and the new album promotion.

But as irrational as it is, I would love to see SW released — soon, and just leave it there to keep Adam on the radio thru the holiday buying season. Then release the new single in March or April.

ETA: Adam in now in New Zealand. Twitter is going a bit nuts.

  14. Adam has consistently said they aren’t releasing another single in the US, so there’s no real reason to think they would. We’ve all seen singles tank because of no promotion, and if Adam isn’t in the country, he can’t really promote another single. So I’m just gonna assume this is it until he puts out some new music in the spring.

Except for the people in Canada and some other countries.

But at least we will get Acoustic FYE EP before the end of the year. And there are two other things under consideration for 2010 releases in the US: 1. A Glam Box for the US vs the Japan and Hong Kong imports. 2. GNT Live DVD.

But I have not given up hope yet because in this interview Adam again said, “I don’t know if there are going to be any more singles.”

But then Adam says Malaysia might get “Fever”. Urgh! I will be so annoyed if Asia-Pacific gets “Fever”, Canada get “Sleepwalker” and the US get a stocking full of coal!

And forget about Finland which now has “Aftermath” and will probably get another single.

  16. But I have not given up hope yet because in this interview Adam said “I don’t know if there are going to be any more singles.”

I think he was talking about the international market there.

  17. I think he was talking about the international market there.

Yeah that was the inpression I got. Sad to say I don’t think the US is going to get another single.

Was there news that Canada was getting SW? Or is this just wishing?

  18. I’m convinced that SW has the potential for doing better in the US than any other single released from FYE so far. RCA will be making a huge mistake not releasing it, IMO.

  19. Congratulation Neil

Sam is sooo soooo soooooooooo sooooo HAWT!!!! ;)

    HOLY HOLY SHIIIIIT SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEFLAILFLAILFLAILSQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEREEEEEEEEEEE
NEW ADAM ALBUM OMAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I would srsly DIE I’m soooo EXCITEDDD 4 the ALBUM!!!!! :D

  20. SW is a great song! I also think RCA is making a mistake by not releasing it.

  21. Do you really have to be around to promote a non-lead single? The label has to push it to radio, but for a third single I’m not sure artists themselves are expected to do all that much promotion. I mean it can happen, but its not like its required or anything… right?

Anyway, I think he’s fine if he gets a lead single out by late spring or even summer… I can’t imagine he’ll have problems getting media attention. He just has to make sure the song is good.

  22. I don’t think the US will get another single. I think it might be that they’ve gotten some pretty good songs in the pipeline for album 2 and are going to focus on that. I don’t understand the industry. Can someone explain to me why Kris would get a 3rd single but Adam won’t? Could it be because, as some have thought above, that Adam’s album 2 will have a different sound than Sleepwalker?

  23. Sleepwalker was my favorite (now it might be Soaked) – I think SW would have done well as a single.

  24. I don’t understand the industry. Can someone explain to me why Kris would get a 3rd single but Adam won’t? Could it be because, as some have thought above, that Adam’s album 2 will have a different sound than Sleepwalker?

Well actually IIHY is the third single. FYE didn’t go anywhere then with the AMA’s they switched really fast to WWFM then IIHY.

And no I don’t count TFM as a single since it was never released to radio in the states.

  25. Ironically WWFM and IIHY are my least favorite songs from FYE, SW is my favorite since day one, I believe I am not alone. If WWFM can sell over 1.5M and IIHY can sell 700k in US, leaving SW untouched, I don’t know what RCA is thinking.

  26. With all the teen suicides lately I would love to see Aftermath be released.

I agree with you about Sleepwalker would be the biggest single out of all of them if it was released. From day one it was one of my favorites.(along with SFW) I think it has the best sound, is really closest to a pop sound and Adam’s vocals are amazing on it. I really think it has the potential to go top 10 pop and #1 HAC. But that is just MHO. Friends and family (those who like and don’t like Adam) have all voiced their opinion overwhelmingly that Sleepwalker was their favorite track and would be a song they would buy. (They also had high marks for WWFM and Soaked and a good amount for Sure Fire Winner (I guess families do have same test sometimes.) (oh and they all LOVE Can’t let you Go) Again though they all thought Sleepwalker had the best potential for single success and radio play. This from about 25 people ranging from 10 to 70. (I got them all recently at my sisters 49th Birthday and I got to be the DJ…they didn’t know what hit em. ) Anyway I ramble. I don’t think a single is coming to the US.

Curious question has a song ever gotten airplay organically where DJ (PD) played it because so many people were requesting it. Just asking HYPOTHETICALLY. Not suggesting anything. ;-)

  28. I don’t think Adam has time, right now, to promote another US single and I believe just throwing a song out there and hope it sticks just doesn’t seem like it makes much sense. Right now, Adam’s two “promoted” singles have done remarkably well and I think that is a good legacy for FYE. It’s time for him to concentrate on his new material and to come up with a “sound” that is unmistakably Adam.

  29. What you say does make sense, Tess, but I’d just love to see another song from FYE get exposure. It’s a dilemma for sure, because I bet that SW could do quite well, but timing is an issue. I’m sure it’s not an easy decision to make, but I hope that TPTB are thinking it through carefully.

By the way, in contrast to Adam, how come it seems like Ke$ha has a new single coming out every few weeks? She’s also at RCA.

  30. silentadamfan according to Brian at Idol Chatter, IIHY has sold 544,000 not 700K.

Idol land sure comes full circle again. Last year we angsted about Cook not getting another single. Now it’s Adam. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

  31. High fives to my computer screen: I just finished the Hunger Games trilogy which Adam is also reading. I too just found out about the series recently. It’s not the kind of stuff I usually read, but was nice for a change. Adam is so articulate, love that about him.

  32. Zastine4974
I mean IIHY can/will sell around 700K. But I have to admit that I also think ‘the truth’ is the best song from Kris, so here you go.

Good job Revcat….were you just reading the same trilogy or had you heard that Adam was reading it too. It seems like a good read from what Adam the little that Adam was saying about it. I agree Adam has to be one of the most Articulate people I have ever seen. Even his singing voice is so clear and crisp. I love that about him too.

  34. Lol Zastine. Wasn’t it a year ago this same exact time we were saying “but (insert various titles) need to be a single!”, “What is RCA thinking”, “how can they not release another single from a platinum album??”. Rinse lather repeat. Welcome to the fine world of WTF RCA.

Was there news that Canada was getting SW? Or is this just wishing?

Well maybe it is just wishful hearing on my part but sounded like Adam gave a general answer and then realized the he was in Malaysia and that they might get another single.

I don’t know if there’s going to be any more singles actually because they want to have the new album out in late Spring or early Summer……actually you know what, you might get another single. You know Singapore got “Fever”…..

He also said something similar in 2 interviews in Puyallup, WA, and in Miami Y100 interview — that he did not know if there would be another single. I do not expect there will be another single, but in every recent interview where he has been asked the question, his response if he doesn’t know or he doesn’t think so. So I will continue to hope, but expect nothing.

Regarding Canada — Sony Music Canada tweeted this….

@SheilaMRH I wish I knew more about America, but sadly this account is just run by the Canadian company. 1:13 PM Oct 13th via web in reply to SheilaMRH

Sony Canada could just be announcing that Adam will do a radio interview or announcing a radio contest. But it was in response to tweets about another FYE single.

  36. Well actually IIHY is the third single. FYE didn’t go anywhere then with the AMA’s they switched really fast to WWFM then IIHY.

Yeah, smeggs I knew that but I don’t count FYE because it’s life was so short.

oh and they all LOVE Can’t let you Go)

Dhunken, that would be my pick for the next single. It’s my favorite song. I’ve listened to it 100s of times and haven’t tired of it yet. When I read comments on that song, 90% of them agree that it’s the best song on the album–not just that they like it, but that it is the BEST. I know it’s just wishful thinking, but I still like to think about it.

Unfortunatly CLYG has only been released on the UK version of FYE. So it wouldn’t get released in the states and Adam can’t seem to get any traction in the UK so I doubt they would release it there especally since it was a bonus track. *sigh*

  38. Idol land sure comes full circle again. Last year we angsted about Cook not getting another single. Now it’s Adam. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Can’t speak for anyone else, I am not angsting over another single for Adam — he will have a new album in about 6 months so doesn’t matter that much. In fact, it may be better for him to be off the radio for a while.

But since they are releasing the FYE Acoustic EP which will certainly contain Sleepwalker acoustic, and because Sleepwalker acoustic is a whole new dimension of Adam, I just want it to be more broadly heard. Even if they just release Sleepwalker radio edit and Sleepwalker acoustic to HAC/AC, it would be enough. I don’t care if it is a big pop hit in the US or not.

Well actually IIHY is the third single. FYE didn’t go anywhere then with the AMA’s they switched really fast to WWFM then IIHY.

Actually RCA switched to WWFM before the AMAs — Z100 added it 11/18/09 and premiered it. FYE was stalled before the 11/22/09 performance.

  39. Wow a full page ad for the New Sony Ericsson in the Singapore Straight times with Adam’s album playing on the front…thats pretty cool. S’pore sure does love them some Adam.

    http://twitpic.com/2xz0ko

  40. short run or not, FYE still counts as a single. Just like while I’d like to forget about about TT’s run for Kris, it still counts as his 2nd single.

I can’t think of many artists who get more than 3 singles off one album. there are some, I’m sure, but 3 off one album is pretty good.

what # single of Daughtry’s current album is September? is this single #3?

  41. Actually RCA switched to WWFM before the AMAs — Z100 added it 11/18/09 and premiered it. FYE was stalled before the 11/22/09 performance.

Oh ahaha didn’t know that…it was before my time :)

    haha bad fan….bad bad

ITA CLYG is not a very likely single because Adam can’t sing it regularly (still waiting for a live performance of it!) — particularly unlikely in North American where it is not on the FYE CE.

CLYG is on the UK CD, EU CD, Germany/Austria CD, new French CD (releasing 11/8/10). But not a likely single in Europe either.

CLYG is not on the North American, Brazil/Portugal, or Asian-Pacific releases.

Regarding the UK — little glimmers of hope showing up. BBC – Music – put up an artist page for Adam yesterday http://goo.gl/TDV1 He has gotten some excellent coverage from Malaysia in UK press. Just a very tough market. Touring should help in the UK — Adam is tough to resist live!

  43. short run or not, FYE still counts as a single. Just like while I’d like to forget about about TT’s run for Kris, it still counts as his 2nd single.

I don’t forget FYE. It will eventually be certified gold and I love the FYE music video. Plus, it was #1 in Japan — and Adam will prob need to wait until his next album for another #1 hit in Japan — if ever.

  44. Danny had a gig at a club in Lancaster PA tonight. I guess he danced in the crowd for the last two numbers, lol.

But this is what is driving me crazy about singles from Ke$ha vs. Adam. She’s with RCA, her album came out in January-ish, and she’s on her, what, 4th single from Animal (Take It Off)? And then they just released her new single (We R Who We R) from her upcoming album (to be released 11/22), practically right on top of Take It Off.

Now Ke$ha is obviously a bigger single seller than Adam, and one could argue that she is actually over-saturating the market and people are going to get sick of her… but RCA is definitely pushing a lot of her songs out to radio, and they don’t seem too worried about spacing and timing.

  47. Unfortunatly CLYG has only been released on the UK version of FYE. So it wouldn’t get released in the states and Adam can’t seem to get any traction in the UK so I doubt they would release it there especially since it was a bonus track. *sigh*

Actually Can’t Let You Go went to #34 on the UK top Rock tracks. and Voodoo went to #50 So it seems that the UK rock world likes Adam better then the UK Pop world. Just saying. :-)

  48. Now Ke$ha is obviously a bigger single seller than Adam, and one could argue that she is actually over-saturating the market and people are going to get sick of her… but RCA is definitely pushing a lot of her songs out to radio, and they don’t seem too worried about spacing and timing.

and it was even worse with Rhianna as she had like 5 or 6 singles release not all of them took off but with her it seemed like they were throwing what ever crap they could at the wall and seeing what would stick.

  49. I need to clarify myself. I just am annoyed that this is an issue. I am super happy for them! Babies are a blessing. That’s just awesome!

  50. I would guess if an album is still selling strong or not depends on whether the label feels its in their best interest to release another single. Isn’t Ke$ha’s album still selling pretty strong? There’s lots of artists who get more than 3 singles per an album. Daughtry’s debut which spent a gazillion weeks in the Top 10 of the BB200 certainly got more than 3.

  51. But this is what is driving me crazy about singles from Ke$ha vs. Adam. She’s with RCA, her album came out in January-ish, and she’s on her, what, 4th single from Animal (Take It Off)? If Adam had 4 Top 10 songs like Kesha, then he would have a 5th single. Looking at other RCA albums that have sold around 750K in the US, they have released an average of 4 singles.

RCA release 7 singles from Daughtry’s first album, 4 from Cook’s debut. 4 for Adam would not be that unusual for an RCA pop album.

  52. hey dhunken where did you find that info about CLYG and Voodoo charting in the UK?

Thanks Q3 for posting this I stepped away for a bit and don’t want Smeggs to think I abandoned her. She is so great to me and to a lot of us with facilitating the Adam threads. Your Awesome too! But I think you know that’s how I feel about you. BTW Happy belated birthday. I hope it was Glittery Glamtastic.

    Thanks!

Though you might have gone to sleep and didn’t want to leave a number questions unanswered! You know how I am about Adam numbers! :)

I think that Adam is making some progress in the UK. It just is a very hard market for American pop artists to crack. Easier for Hip-Hop, R&B, and Urban artists.

ETA: smeggingnuts: the great circle because I added it to my Adam numbers when a UK fan sent it to me! It is also on Adam’s Wiki page with a proper footnote. Why the duck?

  56. Does anyone know anythin about this: at Wikipedia it says that Music Again is going to be made into a Music Video. Color be confused.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Lambert_discography

Look down to bottom of page and see the listing of Music Videos? Q3 you know anything about this or is this a mistake since Wikipedia is fan driven info.

I would be so excited if another Music Video is coming out. (though MA is not one of my Top Faves)

    #01 September – Daughtry (+02)

    Congrats Daughtry #1 again!!!!!!!!!

  58. Now Ke$ha is obviously a bigger single seller than Adam, and one could argue that she is actually over-saturating the market and people are going to get sick of her… but RCA is definitely pushing a lot of her songs out to radio, and they don’t seem too worried about spacing and timing.

Her album has shown a lot of staying power, and radio PDs have rushed to play every song that she’s released, even initially ” Blah Blah Blah”, so why wouldn’t RCA continue to release songs. As long as there is a demand, the label will continue to supply the product.

  59. Her album has shown a lot of staying power, and radio PDs have rushed to play every song that she’s released, even initially ” Blah Blah Blah”, so why wouldn’t RCA continue to release songs. As long as there is a demand, the label will continue to supply the product.

I agree with this… though at this rate I think she is running the risk of over exposure once her second album matures and the singles are released. Its similar to Lady Gaga. I think gaga over the course of her career has the capacity to have longevity. People may not like her style, but I believe she can be reinvented. Gaga has a few things that Ke$ha doesn’t, which is the capacity to sing and play an instrument. I don’t think Ke$ha has as much of a core vocal or musical talent. Perhaps she’ll be able to write for someone once she’s done.

I guess I see Gaga as more of a talent and less of an “act” as I do Ke$ha. Same holds true of the idols. A majority of them have a base talent that they can remold into something else later if they need to.

With regards to why not Adam? IDK. It may come down to RCA looking at their pocketbook. Which singles are more risky to back than others? Who knows. Maybe they don’t mind burning out Ke$ha because her shelf life is finite. Adam is no where near being overexposed, so I have no answer here after this lengthy babbling.

  61. short run or not, FYE still counts as a single. Just like while I’d like to forget about about TT’s run for Kris, it still counts as his 2nd single.

No, I don’t want to forget FYE either – it’s still one of my very favorite tracks from the CD. Not really sure how it would’ve done without the AMA influence, but it’s an amazing song and the video is stunning (IMO, anyway :)).

I’ll be sad if there’s not another single released, but I’m very excited for the next chapter. Can’t wait for the new CD!

  65. RCA release 7 singles from Daughtry’s first album, 4 from Cook’s debut. 4 for Adam would not be that unusual for an RCA pop album.

Well, technically, ToML wasn’t a single “from” Cook’s debut — it was a surprise hit that became a much-begrudged added-on bonus track. Like, say, TFM on Adam’s album (except for the hit part.) :-) That said, didn’t Adam get the same # as David with essentially the same promotion? FYE and BBS both released with no radio promo (albeit for different reasons.) WWFM and LO both released, were supported, and had accompanying videos, as did IIHY and CBTM.

Anyway, it doesn’t matter all that much — the comparison, that is. I’m sadly and slowly coming to terms with the reality that it’s unlikely we’ll see another single release from FYE. :-( The fast fall of IIHY from Pop gave me unexpected hope recently, but that too is fading each time Adam is interviewed on the topic.

FWIW, unlike nearly every other fan, I’m not sold that Sleepwalker would prove a catchy radio hit. Love it myself, especially live, but not confident that radio would. Fever was the other sure hit in my mind, but for this country’s social/political woes. Oh well… bring on more music, Adam, and please make it Spring, not Summer. Thanks!

  66. Good morning!

Some of the Grammy lists came out early this morning. I haven’t got a chance to go through them since I was asleep when they leaked. Here they are:

Darn the BNA category has been removed. Wanted to see if Adam, Kris, or Danny where at least on the first wave of list. Is there another area to see Best New Artist list.

  67. I’ve already got it posted. I saved them to my hard drive as well.
