Adam Lambert Uncowed by Anger Over Sexuality

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) – Singer Adam Lambert said his Malaysian concert on Thursday would reflect his sexuality despite Islamist anger over his show, which has been accused of promoting “gay culture.”

Lambert said at a news conference ahead of the concert that the only thing he would omit from his show in the mainly Muslim Southeast Asian country was an onstage kiss with a fellow male performer.

“My performance will still have a lot of vibes about it, ” said Lambert, in a black jacket and pants and sporting his trademark black eyeliner.

Protests Planned For Adam Lambert’s Malaysian Concert

However, campaigners are refusing to back down and are planning to demonstrate outside the stadium where Lambert is due to play. PAS youth chief Nasrudin Hassan says, “Lambert is morally unfit. His gay lifestyle will harm our society. He is of bad, bad character and poses a danger to young Malaysians. We want the government to cancel the permit…”

Nevertheless, Hassan is adamant all the planned protests will be peaceful.

He adds, “We will use a soft approach to protest against his performance. He has admitted he is gay. We feel his lifestyle will influence and destroy the young generation. We will not use violence to stop the concert.”

Adam glams our nation tonight!

ADAM Lambert may pile on the guyliner and profess his love for OPI nail polish. Still, the 28-year-old San Diego native is no more extravagantly flamboyant than most when he decides to momentarily vacate his throne as reigning glam king of rock for those moments of normalcy.

In an interview with The Malay Mail, Adam was initially almost curt in his answers, but as he warmed up, the 15-minute phone interview extended to half an hour with Adam breezing through almost every topic raised.

His career since playing bridesmaid to Kris Allen in the eighth season of American Idol, has been one of the most successful talent from the show’s alumni , with no signs of letting up.

‘Idol” winner Allen to join Lifehouse Friday at MGM Grand

Kris Allen said he grew up a “huge” Michael Jackson fan, also enjoying other artists’ music such as Queen and The Beatles. But he didn’t ever want to be someone he wasn’t.

“I was never like, ‘I want to be like that guy, ’ ” he said.

So the guy who beat Adam Lambert to take the Season 8 crown on “American Idol” hasn’t, to date at least, been pegged as the next-anyone.

And he’ll bring his unique sound and talents to the MGM Grand Theater stage for a Friday night concert at Foxwoods Resort Casino with alternative band Lifehouse.

Carrie Underwood’s solo act defies the norms of country music

With no apologies to Taylor Swift, we can now crown Carrie Underwood the reigning queen of country music.

She can also claim the title of the most successful “American Idol” contestant ever.

Saturday night, Underwood headlines a sold-out show at the Sprint Center. Yes, she is sold-out-arena caliber these days, and not just in places close to her Oklahoma hometown, like Kansas City. Earlier this month, she sold out the Hollywood Bowl, where more than 17, 000 fans came to see her.

Bret Michaels ‘Disappointed’ He Didn’t Get ‘American Idol’ Gig

Although we’re happy to have rocker Bret Michaels back on TV in his new VH1 reality show “Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It, ” a part of us is slightly bummed that he won’t be sitting alongside Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez on the new season of “American Idol, ” as was once rumored.

When MTV News caught up with the reality-TV star recently to talk about his new show, we asked his thoughts on almost making the final cut.

“I made it into the top five people. It came down to five people in the end, ” Michaels said. “I was disappointed. I’d love to have done it. I’m competitive, so it would have been great. On the other hand, to have J.Lo and Steven Tyler — one’s a pop icon and one’s a rock legend and both, along with Randy, are going to make such awesome TV

The Ultimate Romantic Hero: Simon Cowell?

A sarcastic Brit with a devilish smile and high wasted pants may not seem like an obvious choice for a romantic hero. But Simon Cowell topped the polls when British women were asked which celebrity they would most like to see featured in a romantic novel.

The former American Idol meanie secured 17% of the vote among women. Not only did he make it ahead of Johnny Depp and Jake Gyllenhaal, who tied with 12% each, but he also beat out Jude Law, who only took 3% of the vote. (Would any past American Idol contestants make the cut?)

Louis van Amstel on Margaret Cho’s Rainbow Statement: ‘I Had a Breakdown’

It’s taking a while for ‘Dancing With the Stars’ pro Louis van Amstel to get over the anguish of his and celeb partner Margaret Cho’s early dismissal from the top-rated ABC competition show — which was no ordinary axing, as far as he is concerned.

“I had a breakdown the next day. I called my friends, I felt horrible, ” the Amsterdam-born ballroom champ and choreographer tells PopEater.

Van Amstel has been going around explaining ever since: “That was not the story we planned to tell. That was not my message. Maybe it was Margaret’s message, but not mine. The minute it was about gay pride, I knew we were gone. I knew it. But if I would have said something then and there, I would have looked like an a******. The damage was done.”

  1. Adam Lambert has already filmed an “It Gets Better” PSA in the wake of the rash of teen suicides, he said at his recent Malaysian press conference.

I’m glad that Adam took the time to contribute to this campaign.

  2. A Japanese David Cook fan posted a video of “Declaration” being used as the ending theme song for NASCAR 2010 (airs by Nippon Television Network Corporation +G, they broadcast SPORTS & NEWS for 24hours a day) in Japan.

I give Cook double points for this feat:
    New sport for DC’s music = +1
Music played in another country = +1

We are all keeping score right?! ;)

Adam Lambert has already filmed an “It Gets Better” PSA

Aww, I’m glad he chose to do this – I think the videos are a great way to open a dialogue with others.

‘Idol” winner Allen to join Lifehouse Friday at MGM Grand

I think this will be a great pairing musically and can’t wait to hear what concertgoers think.

Carrie Underwood’s solo act defies the norms of country music

Even though most articles talk about Carrie killing it out there, I still enjoy reading them. :)

  3. So happy to hear that Adam filmed the PSA. If it reaches just one person and let’s them know they aren’t alone….

  4. Looks like a Idol reunion last night…seems Danny was also at the concert.

We are all keeping score right?!

Thanks, Joyed. IDK about keeping score, ;) but we are certainly keeping track, and this has been added to a very long list….w/credit to you for finding it. It’s usually “Heroes” that is chosen, very nice to see David’s “Declaration” was the music this time, although AXN in Asia used the song in a promotion for its new 2010 shows in December 2009.

All great exposure and PR – and keeping Cherry Lane busy collecting percentages for TV use is also a good thing, KWIM?

ETA: davedpg, I just went to see your documentary – very nicely done, and lovely photography! Thanks much, you’ve been added to the list.

  9. I think Brett would have been a good judge, but I think Steven was a better choice, and it’s nice to see him be classy about it!

Where are the judges headed next for auditions?

  10. Tripp

I think BigDaddySays is the stage manager. Not the tour manager.

  11. LaToya London is in a new band called Urban Punk.

Wow, is she ever a blast from the past! Good to see she’s still active in the music biz…I always felt so bad for her when she got fucked over in Season 3.

  12. Wow that crowd for Adam is amazing. It’s great he didn’t cancel the concert!

Also, yeah for his It Gets Better vid.

  13. I just have to post this. I try not to put too much stock into reviews and stuff like that but I’m not gonna lie. I wanted The Tennessean’s review of Carrie’s Nashville concert to be good. REALLY wanted, especially after the CMA snub for Entertainer Of The Year.

And it is good. SO good (haha). I’m really happy that Carrie brought it and they got it.

    Tennessean Review

Carrie Underwood took the stage at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena Wednesday night with the confidence of a seasoned veteran, delivering a near two-hour set that offered highlight after highlight. It also offered a clear message to hometown fans who’d seen the country star’s early onstage steps: She’s grown more as a performer in two short years than many artists do over the course of a career.

  14. Tripp

I think BigDaddySays is the stage manager. Not the tour manager.

Saw tweet last night that replied that he was the tour manager.

    trei1658
@Bigdaddysays what do you do for @krisallen on tour? #alrightwithme
    ————————
    Bigdaddysays
@trei1658 I will be his tour manager! Yay!

  15. Thanks, windmills. I’m happy for Underwood. I’ll probably never get over my allergy to JTTW, so I’ll probably never see her live show, but I’m glad she’s reached so many people and grown into herself as a performer.

  16. Tripp

Huh, ok. Thanks. I wonder what happened to the guy who was the tour manager. Of course Lizzie basically handled a lot of that stuff herself.

  17. Wow that crowd for Adam is amazing. It’s great he didn’t cancel the concert!

There was no serious discussion of canceling the Malaysia GNT concert. These same calls to cancel have been made for many other US artists and the protests never amount to anything.

Concert – 16,000 people in audience
Protesters – 200 (based on press reports, looks like far less in photos.)

Adam a lot of press worldwide, and the concert had only minor changes — Isaac put on a shirt, the dancers covered their midriffs with tank tops, and Adam pointed to the audience in place of the kiss in Fever during the line, “Would you be mine?”

Looks to me like a big win for Adam and his Malaysian fans.

  18. Simon?!?! WTH did those 100 women even know who Jake was? Seriously Simon *shudders* or course these are the same women that led to Fabio’s fame so I guess it fits the theme of “What the hell were you thinking?”

  19. Looks to me like a big win for Adam and his Malaysian fans.

This concert had me tearing up today! Sooo much love from the fans, and it was a huge success! So great to see him get so much love all around the world on this tour :-)

  20. I just have to post this. I try not to put too much stock into reviews and stuff like that but I’m not gonna lie. I wanted The Tennessean’s review of Carrie’s Nashville to be good. REALLY wanted, especially after the CMA snub for Entertainer Of The Year.

And it is good. SO good (haha). I’m really happy that Carrie brought it and they got it.

Much as reviews don’t influence me in anything, it’s always great when the reviews are great for something we like lol
I’m really happy for Carrie and I love reading those things. I don’t even listen to much of her music and I’d love love to go to her concert. But well, country singers don’t usually come to Europe :(

  21. yay! Cook being played on Japanese TV!

Yay for Carrie’s good reviews, too. :) I would love to see her again…It’s been since the season 4 Idol Tour since I saw her last perform.

  22. There was no serious discussion of canceling the Malaysia GNT concert. These same calls to cancel have been made for many other US artists and the protests never amount to anything.

Yeah, okay, I didn’t really think he would. But serious or not I’m still glad that he didn’t cancel.

  23. I think Adam really could end up with a Grammy nod. He seems to have the respect a lot of his peers, which counts. That plus label politics mean something in getting Grammy nominations, so if RCA wants to make the case I think it could happen. In not Best New Artist, perhaps Male Pop Vocal? Anyway, I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets something nomination day.

  24. I’ve always had “Adam-dreams”. Most of them have already happened (including in my mind World Domination :) ) BUT a grammy nod would be INCREDIBLEEEEEEEEE…i dont think its likely, but I was wrong when I thought IIHY would fail–i hopeim wrong again :)

Adam Lambert has already filmed an “It Gets Better” PSA

    Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Adam ILY :)

  25. leome: Much as reviews don’t influence me in anything, it’s always great when the reviews are great for something we like lol

Definitely lol. For me with this one it was more that this review is the one that CMA voters are the most likely to read and I love that it ended by saying Carrie’s show made the strong case that she should WIN CMA Entertainer Of The Year THIS year and more or less smacked the CMAs for not nominating her. The Tennessean is all up in the Music Row establishment’s business so if somebody there dares say something like this then it means a little bit more. I’m just glad it’s not just bittercakes fans like me saying it lol.

tinawina: That plus label politics mean something in getting Grammy nominations, so if RCA wants to make the case I think it could happen.

IMHO if RCA was planning on politicking for Adam they would’ve started with the VMAs. Those have always been a platform to get buzz going for a potential BNA nominee and with the blue ribbon panel picking BNA nominees it definitely helps to have the buzz. That having been said I can definitely see Pop category noms for Adam since he could get the support of people who like Pink plus people who flat out liked his record for WWFM.

  26. IMHO if RCA was planning on politicking for Adam they would’ve started with the VMAs. Those have always been a platform to get buzz going for a potential BNA nominee and with the blue ribbon panel picking BNA nominees it definitely helps to have the buzz.

Wow it starts that far back! I didn’t know that! I’ve never seen the VMAs as anything other than a list of who had the biggest hits the preceding summer. It sure ain’t about the best videos. LOL. But they do get “cool” people to perform too, so I guess it applies. No one can deny if Florence + the Machine get a nod this year, they owe it to the VMAs.

ITA that he has a real shot at Male Pop Vocal more so than Best New Artist. BNA is super competitive this year! What a difference a year makes. :D

  27. Tom O’Neil (LA Times Gold Derby) has an amazing track record at calling the award show nominees. I don’t think Adam has much chance at a Grammy BNA nomination but think he has a shot at Best Male Pop Vocalist for WWFM. And being mentioned in the second meaningful prediction of Grammy nominees means that he may have a bigger shot than expected.

Adam’s biggest problem for the BNA is not lack of sales — he has outsold four of the seven favorites — it is because 1. this award is from the recording industry and FYE is an uneven album 2. US pop artists rarely get BNA nominations.

Only one nomination to a US male pop act in the past ten years — The Jonas Brothers. The category is dominated by women, alt rock, country and urban acts. And there is almost always one UK artist on the list.

WWFM is an excellent vocal recording and Adam does seem to have a shot to get a nomination in the Pop Vocal category. IMO this is the one he deserves and the one he deserved to win.

ETA: The major labels can do very little to influence the Grammy nominations or vote. There are two many voters and with the new digital rules, it has become even easier to become a voting member. The odd thing this year is there is no Country or Rock contender. The question is what will those big blocks of voters do? My guess is that they may nominate someone who isn’t on these lists. But we’ll see in a little over a month!

  28. standtotheright: I’ll probably never get over my allergy to JTTW, so I’ll probably never see her live show, but I’m glad she’s reached so many people and grown into herself as a performer.

Wish you could take something for your allergy, lol, because seeing her sing JTTW/HGTA live is really quite an experience that I would recommend to everyone. Those standing ovations she receives for that performance every night happens for a reason and if you’re ever there in person you’ll understand why. :)

windmills: For me with this one it was more that this review is the one that CMA voters are the most likely to read and I love that it ended by saying Carrie’s show made the strong case that she should WIN CMA Entertainer Of The Year THIS year and more or less smacked the CMAs for not nominating her. I’m just glad it’s not just bittercakes fans like me saying it lol.

It wasn’t just you, I think every fan of Carrie’s was hoping to see what this reviewer wrote. We not only wanted a great review of the show but a classy knock to the CMA voters from one of their own, and that’s exactly what we got. Here’s another where you’ll love the last line:

And some of the folks in the room were probably wishing they could have a second shot at filling out their early-round CMA ballots, because you can make a pretty easy case that a woman with that kind of natural talent and that level of showmanship belongs among the Entertainer of the Year finalists.

  29. Wish you could take something for your allergy, lol, because seeing her sing JTTW/HGTA live is really quite an experience that I would recommend to everyone.

The lyrics actively offend me, no matter how powerful the performance is. But I wish her well.

It was a pretty big hit on multiple formats and he did a great job on the vocals. I know that he doesn’t appear to have the industry support that a lot of others have so is it a long shot or just not happening?

  32. How on earth is Vampire Weekend eligible when their debut album was in 2008?

As long as the artist has no previous Grammy nods, they are technically eligble for BNA. I’m pretty sure Contra debuted higher than Vampire Weekend, the record, and their buzz is definitely on an upswing, so I could see the argument. The Oxford Comma bit on the Colbert Report was awesome.

    FYE is an uneven album

Q3 what do you mean by this?

First of all, FYE is one of my fav albums and IMO the best Idol debut ever. (It is not secret that I am an unapologetic Adam fan. And I know what I like when I hear it.)

Secondly, FYE was a really ambitious first album and to do it on an Idol debut schedule was really tough. There is a ton to love about it and there is only one track of 18 that I do not think is good or great. (Not saying what it is.)

But even I admit that FYE is not a perfect album and for a BNA nomination, if you are not a huge seller (Bieber), the quality of the album does matter. Bieber gets the Teen sensation exemption!

From what I have heard and read, many recording industry pros (the people who vote for Grammys) have been critical of three things about FYE:

    1. The production on FYE — that the album in over-produced and on many of the tracks the production overwhelms Adam’s vocals. (I agree with this criticism and all of the Cavallo tracks and Aftermath are good examples. I love the live, acoustic Aftermath — the album version in just muddy. And IMO the first 20 sec of Soaked with the swirling string orchestra and no Adam should just be thrown away.)

    2. The lack of a coherent artistic vision for the album. Adam visualized it as a multi-genre playlist with something for every mood. But many record industry folks think an album in an artform and should hold together as a more singular expression of who an artist is. (I understand Adam’s vision, but think that the song sequence in the GNT concert make it more sensible. If the album had been arranged in acts like the concert, this would have eliminated this problem.)

    3. There is one additional criticism I think is valid – the single, FYE, is in the wrong key for Adam. I have only seen this said publicly one time (Meatloaf) but have heard it privately including from two different label execs that I know (not Sony execs).

Adam has not said much about the new album but he has talked about being more focused and making the album more cohesive for Adam #2. He develop a concept to convert the FYE songs into a coherent show in GNT. So I think he gets it and will give us an even better album in Adam #2.

Finally, I cannot want to hear the FYE acoustic EP. All I know is that this is already recorded and will be 5 tracks. No one has said if it is new recording or was taken from some of the older acoustic performances. I am hoping that they did new recording sessions for this but think that these unplugged, stripped downs versions will be much better than the original album tracks.

I think Kris has no chance but The Script have a shot at a BNA — I think that Florence and the Machine will get the nomination and steal votes from The Script.

  35. Thanks Q3
So when you mean uneven you mean the lack of cohesion specifically? haha I understand what you said just trying to get exactly what you ment by uneven straight in my head.

I actually agree with I think every thing you said. And I really do hope that they rerecorded the acoustic songs. But not sure when he actually had time to do that.

I’m just adding my recording session wish to my concert DVD wish — that is my “wish and a prayer list”!

I actually cannot figure out when Adam could have been in a recording studio and fans would not have noticed. He can’t get a coffee from a vending machine in Japan without of photo posted on YT.

  37. He can’t get a coffee from a vending machine in Japan without of photo posted on YT.

    yeah *sigh*
So if Adam releases his album late spring early summer next year does that make it elagible for grammy’s next year?

  38. B985radio @KrisAllen has a new song called “Alright With Me” – have you heard it? Becky plays it at 5:10 today only on B98.5 – online at b98.com

ETA: You can listen to it live here; http://www.b98.com/

tripp thanks for this link. After she played it she asked listeners to call in and let her know what they thought of it, either good or bad. After the next song was over she said her phone exploded LOL. They aired three callers all giving it a positive review with one caller encouraging everyone to go see him live because he put on such a good show and always played this song at his concerts.

ETA Guess I should add she gave the song a good lead-in talking about Kris being in AR for two weeks and the stage in Simon Park being named after him. Pretty cool.

  39. The 2012 Grammy year is September 1, 2010 to September 30, 2011. So Adam #2 should qualify for 2012 Grammys.

But I still think Adam has a real shot at BMPV. That is restricted to Pop artists, and the list of male pop artists is much shorter than New Artists. The voters have pop recording credits and that eliminates a lot of the Country voters and some of the Hip-Hop Urban voters. So, although I expect him to be on the “should have been nominated” list, it could happen.

And the Grammys are not like the VMAs and AMAs nominations, set up to get TV ratings. There are actually real recording artists and producers and songwriters involved in the voting.

IDK I am still drinking out of my pessimist mug here…haha I just can’t seem to find any hope in this at all for Adam

I don’t think the 16,000 people at Adam’s concert are walking out of that venue are affected by that protest at all! They LOVED him! Heres a pic where you can see part of the crowd http://twitpic.com/2xiter

The size of that crowd is amazing. Adam put on a great show for them and they were absolutely crazy about him. Glad to see Adam doing a spot It gets better PSA. Who better than an openly gay pop star who’s unapologetic about himself and his lifestyle.

  42. Q3
I completely agree with everything you said. You stated this so well.

I actually like the multi-genre aspect of the album. I hope he doesn’t back off of this. I think his voice is suited for more than one genre. He may have done this also to capture as many fan tastes as possible – thats my theory.

I understand Kelly was suposed to put something more eclectic for her next album – hope this still happens.

  43. And the Grammys are not like the VMAs and AMAs nominations, set up to get TV ratings. There are actually real recording artists and producers and songwriters involved in the voting.

These people still vote for what is popular, or what they know to be popular, which is why artists in certain genres, for example country, hip/hop, r&b, and certain niche genres have spoken out against the voting system. The people in charge have done a lot in the last decade to make the voting panel more diverse so that they can address some of the problems, but there have still been complaints. A few years back India Arie was nominated, but refused to show up because she felt that they put her in a certain category on the basis of her race, and not because that is the type of music that she produces. Some black artists who produce rock music have also had the same complaint about being shut out of the rock nominations because of their race. So, while the Grammy people may not be as concerned about ratings as the AMA people, they still have their biases, and they are still human.

  44. But I still think Adam has a real shot at BMPV. That is restricted to Pop artists, and the list of male pop artists is much shorter than New Artists.

Is this based on a particular song or just the singer in general? Would Adam get a nomination based on his performance on WWFM or just based on his performance in general? Personally, I think Adam has an amazing voice but I don’t know about how I feel about it in relation to pop music. IMHO Kris or Lee,for that matter, have much better pop voices. Adam had some good hits with WWFM and IIHY but I really think it was the song and promo rather than anything about Adam’s voice that made those songs hits. LLWD,on the other hand, was helped tremendously by Kris’s vocal performance. The members of the Script even said that they were glad that Kris was able to take that song and make it work since they weren’t. If Adam gets a nomination for WWFM and Kris doesn’t for LLWD I won’t be surprised but it will certainly reek of favoritism.

  45. If Adam gets a nomination for WWFM and Kris doesn’t for LLWD I won’t be surprised but it will certainly reek of favoritism.

    LOL

  46. The odd thing this year is there is no Country or Rock contender. The question is what will those big blocks of voters do? My guess is that they may nominate someone who isn’t on these lists. But we’ll see in a little over a month!

Maybe Danny Gokey will get a nomination for best new artist. Wouldn’t that be a kick in the pants lol.

OT But I just bought The Band Perry’s album and can’t stop listening to it. My moneys on them next year for BNA country slot already lol. I wonder if there are betting places for the grammys?

  47. If Adam gets a nomination for WWFM and Kris doesn’t for LLWD I won’t be surprised but it will certainly reek of favoritism.

I wouldn’t go this far. I think Kris deserves a nomination for LLWD, but if he doesn’t get one it will probably be because of the lack of media attention and exposure that he has had. David Cook suffered from the same thing last year. I’m not saying that he should have been nominated, but being so far below the voting panel’s radar and out of the public eye pretty much ensured that he wouldn’t be.

  48. If Adam gets a nomination for WWFM and Kris doesn’t for LLWD I won’t be surprised but it will certainly reek of favoritism.

    LOL

You will probably have a lot to smile about when Grammy noms come out. I’m sure Adam will get a nod. I still haven’t given up on Kris,though-maybe someday.LOL :)

  49. You will probably have a lot to smile about when Grammy noms come out. I’m sure Adam will get a nod. I still haven’t given up on Kris,though-maybe someday.LOL

Well if you read what I posted upthread I really don’t think Adam will get a nom, but I also don’t think if Adam did and Kris didn’t it would be favoritism either….its just made me laugh remembering awhile back when everything that happened was some sort of conspiracy

  50. I wouldn’t go this far. I think Kris deserves a nomination for LLWD, but if he doesn’t get one it will probably be because of the lack of media attention and exposure that he has had.

I sadly agree but it is really two sides of the same coin. Kris is not a media favorite so he didn’t get media attention. Adam is a media favorite so he did. That is favoritism in my book and the Grammys are supposed to be above that sort of thing. Since Katy Perry and her vocally challenged self got a nod last year we all know that is not the case. Oh well, at least Adam will be a much better nom than Justin Bieber.

  51. Well if you read what I posted upthread I really don’t think Adam will get a nom, but I also don’t think if Adam did and Kris didn’t it would be favoritism either….its just made me laugh remembering awhile back when everything that happened was some sort of conspiracy

I am a conspiracy theorist from way back so I admit there is some truth to that. I guess when you are a Kris fan it just comes with the territory :)

  52. I am a conspiracy theorist from way back so I admit there is some truth to that. I guess when you are a Kris fan it just comes with the territory.:)

haha I think it just comes with idol…I have noticed in my short stint on this site that these float around with every aspect of every idol. hahaha I try to just look at each on their own since I can’t really see how one idol’s successes, failures, twitter followers, media attention has any effect on another idols carreer. So conspiracy theories always give me a giggle…though I tend to laugh at almost everything lol

  53. The media attention didn’t seem to help with the VMAs or AMAs which are very media driven, so I doubt the Grammys care about that much. But it’s not like Adam can’t sing so hardly a conspiracy if they choose WWFM for pop male vocal. Which I doubt either Kris or Adam will be nominated anyway. *Singing ability didn’t matter with Taylor Swift either, thank you Kanye.* ETA: No one knows why the Grammys choose who they choose.

The labels make the submissions, which should leak pretty soon.

  54. LLWD,on the other hand, was helped tremendously by Kris’s vocal performance. The members of the Script even said that they were glad that Kris was able to take that song and make it work since they weren’t

    .

Pink introduced her concert version of WWFM by saying she wrote a song and gave it to someone who could sing it much better than she could. And Lady GaGa said she could never make “Fever” work for her, but she thought Adam would be great on it. Which he is, IMO.

Interesting observation that if FYE (the album) were structured in “acts” like the stage show is, it would be more successfully realized. It makes me yearn for an Adam Lambert rock opera, lol. If anyone could bring it back, he could :)

  55. The media attention didn’t seem to help with the VMAs or AMAs which are very media driven, so I doubt the Grammys care about that much.

I’m not saying that being popular with the media will result in someone being nominated, just that it’s harder for those who don’t have the name recognition to be nominated. For the most part, the Grammy voters have been good about recognizing critical darlings as well as those who are commercially successful, even though last year they seemed to favor the commercially successful artists more than the more indie or niche artists.

  56. Pink introduced her concert version of WWFM by saying she wrote a song and gave it to someone who could sing it much better than she could.

I have to disagree with Pink on that. I saw where she performed it on some You-tube video and she was incredible. I just adore her humility, though :) I guess that was my problem with Adam on WWFM I kept wishing it was Pink singing it instead. Of course, I’m sure Script fans felt the same way about Kris and LLWD.

  57. I, personally, don’t think either Adam or Kris will be nominated, but I struggle to see how it is “favoritism.” If it is based on voting, then all nominees are the “favorites” by definition because they get the most votes . . . I’m at a loss on how this could be favoritism. . . . I’m not an “Idol” person, so maybe I’m missing something.

I agree with tamalepie. Both Adam and Kris sang songs written by other acts who have had hit songs. The Script’s “Breakeven” I think was a bigger hit than either WWFM or LLWD. I don’t think the difference between them and Kris (or between Pink and Adam necessarily) is vocal talent but getting the song to sound right. I like Kris but to say that his vocal talent can make a song better, but Adam’s can’t, is ridiculous. Even with the attention that Adam gets, he is not that famous and some in the industry even think he is underrated.

Again, I like both Kris and Adam, but trying to stir up some controversy between them with respect to the Grammys is a stretch in my opinion.

  58. I guess that was my problem with Adam on WWFM I kept wishing it was Pink singing it instead. Of course, I’m sure Script fans felt the same way about Kris and LLWD.

I’m with you on both points. I’m actually not a big fan of WWFM as a song. I think the lyrics are extremely weak. Upon a first listen of the FYE album, it was my least (or second least) favorite song. It’s a testament to Adam’s performance that it grew on me.

  59. I have to aggree with you Moonshadow on WWFM I really didn’t like that song until Austraila when he started singing it acoustically with Monte and LP…haha makes no never mind anyway neither of them is going to get a grammy let alone a nomination. Who sings which song better is all a matter of personal taste anyway.

  60. Season 5 Idol, Mandisa attended the Carrie Underwood concert in Nashville last night, @Mandisaofficial: “Carrie Underwood is officially 1 of my all-time favorite voices! AMAZING concert! Best moment was Jesus Take the Wheel/How Great Thou Art!!!…oh! And I did see 5 other Black people! LOL!”

When I went to see the Rolling Stones a few years ago I saw only two black people and one was Chris Rock LOL!

  61. Who sings which song better is all a matter of personal taste anyway.

It is very subjective. I adore Neil Young and Bob Dylan’s voices and neither one of them could ever be called good technical singers.

I don’t think the difference between them and Kris (or between Pink and Adam necessarily) is vocal talent but getting the song to sound right. I like Kris but to say that his vocal talent can make a song better, but Adam’s can’t, is ridiculous. tEven with the attention that Adam gets, he is not that famous and some in he industry even think he is underrated.

I am only referring to the two songs WWFM and LLWD. And it is subjective but I really don’t care for Adam’s vocal on that song as far as the recorded version goes. I just don’t care for his “pop”voice. Pop music takes everything great about Adams voice and irons it out. I agree that if you put Kris and Adam together in a technical vocal competition Adam would win every time. I just prefer Kris’s “pop”voice. I think that Kris adds more to LLWD than Adam adds to WWFM. I am not familiar with Adam’s acoustic version of WWFM. Is it on I-Tunes? I might check it out.

adamlambert: “Excited to perform for my Malaysian fans tonight!!! My priority is giving you a great show, and I don’t mind making a slight compromise to do so. You all are more than worth it!!! Bust out the glitter!!! ”

    Adam is so awesome. :) :) :)

  63. Maybe Danny Gokey will get a nomination for best new artist. Wouldn’t that be a kick in the pants lol.

I know you are being snarky, lol, but would never happen. Country artists are generally nominated for “new” when they are on their second album! Just the way it works. For the CMA this year only 1 out of the 5 BNA is actually new, Easton, who’s had two #1 hits. Jerrod the other “new” has been around for a while. Chris Young is moving on to his third album. So no chance of Danny getting that being a country artist, IMO.

I would be surprised if Adam received a nomination. I think they threw his name in there because of his great PR, but neither of his songs went high enough. Not dissing him in the least, JMO. They haven’t been that Idol friendly lately; if Daughtry didn’t get any nods, can’t see Adam getting one.

The submissions will not leak — there were over 20,000 submissions. Which means almost everything was be submitted by the major labels.

It doesn’t seem like a strong contender for Song of the Year which is awarded to the writer(s)/composer(s) of a single song. (not Kris)

The only possible category is Best Male Pop Vocal Performance — and IMO the odds are close to 0 of that happening. (I also think the odds are close to 0 that Adam will get a nomination in this category — but I still believe WWFM deserves a nomination.)

Danny may actually have the best shot at a nomination for Best New Country & Western Artist — a long shot but the best odds of the three AI8 guys to get an nomination — and the competition is surprisingly light this year.

  65. LOL!”

    That’s funny.
I saw Carrie at the Hollywood Bowl and I thought that my group were the only Asians there.

  66. Here are 2 of the better ones (ok my favorite ones he did for radio promo last spring

Love those. It must be the beanie :) Reminds me how sped up the concert version is though. :-

  67. The submissions will not leak — there were over 20,000 submissions. Which means almost everything was be submitted by the major labels.

I was reading the Grammy thread on Pulse and there was this post “Looks like Goldderby will have the submission lists sometime this week. That’ll be interesting to see. I’m very curious where Gaga submits all her stuff, how Eminem and his label plan to submit to the general field and what is submitted in the R&B categories.” and “Dying for those submissions. It is the 13th and I think we got them around the 15th(ish) last year.”

It’ll be something fun to look at anyway, whatever it is.

  68. The submissions will not leak — there were over 20,000 submissions. Which means almost everything was be submitted by the major labels.

The submissions leaked last year, and were reposted on this site.

It doesn’t seem like a strong contender for Song of the Year which is awarded to the writer(s)/composer(s) of a single song. (not Kris)

The only possible category is Best Male Pop Vocal Performance

There is also a third category, record of the year, which is awarded to the song’s Artist, Producers, Engineers and mixers.

  69. Here are 2 of the better ones (ok my favorite ones :) he did for radio promo last spring

Oh yes! Love that acoustic version much better than the recorded version. I will probably be downloading it when it comes out on I-Tunes. Thanks! :)
