Simon Cowell: We’ll Eventually Get 20 Million Viewers For ‘The X Factor’

“That was a slight misunderstanding. I wasn’t saying I want 20 million for the first episode. I said we wanna hit 20 million, ” Simon told Access, attempting to cast a new light on his previous comments to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Of course that went out there and I thought, ‘I have really opened my big mouth here because anything now under 20 is a disaster, ’” he added. “As much as people want you to succeed, there’s a ton of people that want you to fail and I took a bit in the neck that first day.”

Simon did, however, tell Access he predicts “The X Factor” will draw in 20 million viewers at some point.

“I do believe — in time, because I believe in the show — we’re gonna hit those numbers, ” he told Access.

Scotty McCreery’s ‘Clear’ career path

NASHVILLE – Scotty McCreery likes to compare American Idol to senior year in high school. There, as the winner of the show’s 10th season, he was big man on campus.

Today, though, McCreery releases his debut album, Clear as Day, and that’s more akin to going off to college. “I’m the freshman who’s still having to learn his way around, ” says the fresh-faced 17-year-old from Garner, N.C. “Hopefully, this album does well, and I can stick around.”

‘Idol’ alum John Stevens sticks with swing as member of Beantown orchestra

“We’re trying to introduce a new generation to the great music of Gershwin, Cole Porter, Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen, with our own spin and our own take on that music, ” says Stevens in a phone interview from his Boston home.

Although he’s now 24, Stevens’ style, which made him stand out from the crowd of pop, rock and country singers on “Idol, ” has not changed. He still is devoted to the smooth songs of the past, from swing to Sinatra stylings.

Jayma Mays Cheers Her New Glee Role, ‘Ginger Supremacy’ and a Very Special Christmas Duet

TVLINE | Any performances coming up for you this season? I feel like the last time you sang, it was in that Puritan “Afternoon Delight” costume.
Which was my favorite thing to wear, ever. I want to have a party at home and answer the door in it. I was so happy in that costume – though I don’t know what that says about me as a person. A ruffle around the neck isn’t go to hurt anything! So no, no [on camera] performances, but Matt [Morrison] and I are doing a duet on the Glee Christmas album, which is very fun for me because I’ve never laid down an original song before. We’re doing an original song that Adam Anders, our music producer, wrote for us, and I felt flattered and honored to do that. Plus, it’s just nice to sing Christmas songs. I wore red pants the day I sang it!
