Lambert, Allen star in Idol concert

American Idol’s eighth season came down to a showdown between winner Kris Allen and Adam Lambert, possibly the most popular Idol runner-up since Clay Aiken. And as the top 10 contestants strutted their stuff on the third -to-last whirl on the Season Eight tour Sunday night at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center, Allen and Lambert, the last two performers of the night, remained the most compelling stories.

Lambert, who was greeted by frenzied screams even during his appearances on pre-show video clips, threw down the gauntlet by tearing into Led Zeppelin’s ‘Whole Lotta Love’ with vocal power and stage presence to spare.

It ain’t that deep man, ‘ while Danny Gokey simply used Kanye’s words against him, writing ‘How could you be so heartless?’ Katy Perry was less subtle in her tweet, posting ‘Fuck U Kanye. ‘Idol’ winner has found success for which he’d hoped

“American Idol” season seven winner David Cook just wants to rock.

And apparently so does America, with the evidence being Cook’s self-titled 2008 platinum album.

What’s unique about this musician? He is, so far, one of a kind in terms of “Idol” winners, which have included the pop singer (Kelly Clarkson), the country singer (Carrie Underwood) and so on. Prior to David Cook, the one thing the show hadn’t given us was the straight-out rocker, one who straps on the guitar and kicks out the jams.

Opportunity rocks

ALLEGAN – On a rare day off from a spring tour that will soon stretch into fall, David Cook sat backstage absorbing the advice from a fellow blue-jeans-wearing singer-songwriter who also plays a little guitar.

“We had a break in June, so I went to see Bryan Adams play an acoustic set back in Kansas City, ” Cook says by telephone from Los Angeles.

“He told me, ‘Don’t stop working until you want to.’ I’ve thought about that a lot, and I’ve kind of taken it to heart.”

Gone country: 9 pop and rock artists who tried playing country

Despite certain theories set forth by Donny and Marie Osmond, there’s actually a very thin line separating those little bits of country from rock ‘n’ roll. After all, it was country that first started us down this path of ‘three chords and the truth, ‘ so it’s not at all surprising to see so many artists turn back up that road. Plenty of folks have tried on country’s boots’”even people who don’t seem to have anything in common with the genre, like American Idol contestant Danny Gokey. To help guide the Milwaukee native on his new career path, The A.V. Club takes a look at some other ‘trailblazers’ who made the switch, whether their cred was as genuine as freshly tanned cowhide or as suspect as faux-snakeskin boots.

Glee: The Myths And Mirth of TV’s Cult Fave

It can happen when a TV show breaks out even before the second episode airs ‘ especially when the pilot runs in the spring, and viewers have all summer to speculate and spread rumors

Indeed, there’s naturally a bit misinformation that surrounds Fox’s ‘Glee, ‘ a new musical comedy series from ‘Nip/Tuck’ producer Ryan Murphy that has ‘ despite only modest ratings so far ‘ very quickly captured a youthful, extremely loyal fan base.

Has any other show ever hit cult status as quickly?

UK to follow US lead by allowing product placement on television

For some of the world’s most secretive fictional characters, we seem to know a lot about their spending habits. James Bond’s preferred watch is an Omega, while Spider-Man likes a drop of Dr Pepper.

But while product placement is rife in film, British television programmes have long had to make up fictional products, such as pints of Newton & Ridley in Coronation Street’s Rovers Return, or simply tape over the logos of real ones. That is all likely to change this week after a decision that is expected to allow commercial broadcasters to show sponsored products for the first time.
