Cops doubt ‘Idol’ threat
Not even cops want to hear his sad song.
An “American Idol” reject — who is suing the show for $100 million, claiming producers urged him to “gay up” his act — said the NYPD yesterday scoffed at his plea for protection after he received death threats.
“They told me, ‘If you get killed, come back and we’ll write you a report, ‘ ” Ian Benardo said of the alleged brushoff he received at the 19th Precinct station house on the Upper East Side.

‘Glee’ Premiere to Include Jay-Z, Gaga, Poison
In its first season, Glee featured some weirdly eclectic song choices: Remember “Thong Song” and “Sweet Caroline” in the “Mash-Up” episode? But in the season-two premiere on September 21st, the show will outdo itself. Rolling Stone has learned that the first episode will feature renditions of Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind, ” Lady Gaga’s “Telephone, ” Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire, ” and Poison’s “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.” In true Gleek fashion, the cast will also perform two vintage Broadway musical standards — “What I Did for Love” from A Chorus Line and “Getting to Know You” from The King and I — as well as “Listen” from the film version of Dreamgirls.

Carrie Underwood: Casual Cute in NYC
Having been enjoying a little time off following a whirlwind summer in which she tied the knot with NHL player Mike Fisher, Carrie Underwood was spotted tending to midday work duties in New York City on Tuesday afternoon (September 7).
Donning a black Blondie t-shirt with black sweats and striped sweater and flip-flops, the “Before He Cheats” singer looked casual cute as she was accompanied by a few mates while leaving a photo shoot session in the West Village.

BBQ&A: Anoop Desai, Barbecue Hero and American Idol
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill alumnus Anoop Desai is perhaps best known as the author of an undergraduate honors thesis in American Studies entitled Why Barbecue Matters in the South. The 60-page paper takes a scholarly look at southern culture through the grease-streaked lens of barbecue. “If one examines the Durkheimian paradigm in relation to North Carolina barbecue, ” Desai writes, “then North Carolinians are divided into two clans of the same ethnic group… there are clear divisions between the eastern and western styles.” Heady stuff indeed, but amazingly Desai’s work in the field of American Studies is not his only claim to fame…

‘American Idol’ alum Michael Lynche says the show ‘will do fine’ with judge changes
Michael “Big Mike” Lynche has only good things to say about “American Idol.” He placed fourth on the Fox singing contest last season, and he just finished the “Idol” tour. This will be a big weekend for Lynche, who grew up in St. Petersburg and played football at the University of Central Florida. He will sing the national anthem twice: first at the UCF game Saturday, then Sunday at the Tampa Bay Bucs game. I talked to him Tuesday, when he was at home in New York.
Are you going to L.A.? “Yes, you want to capitalize on everything you’ve done in a timely fashion. I’m trying to lock up a record deal and other opportunities. I will be back in L.A. at the end of the month.”
