‘Idol’ contestant speaks out on illness
At just 20 years old and already a household name, curly topped “American Idol” also-ran Casey Abrams is amassing a most unconventional fan following for a rising pop star: the 1.4 million people afflicted with inflammatory bowel disease.
“It’s an embarrassing topic. No one wants to talk about their butt, right?” said the refreshingly blunt Abrams, whose intensely private two-year battle with ulcerative colitis was famously outed earlier this year when he had to be hospitalized during the “Idol” competition.

‘Dancing with the Stars’ Chaz Bono Jokes Place Chelsea Handler in Hot Water with GLAAD
“Last night’s episode of Chelsea Lately repeatedly made a mockery of Chaz Bono’s transgender identity when discussing the transgender advocate’s upcoming appearance on Dancing With the Stars, ” writes GLAAD’s Associate Director of Entertainment Media, Matt Kane.
Kane points out that the “transphobic humor” started in Handler’s opening remarks and continued later in the show with her roundtable comedians, Fortune Feimster, Bill Bellamy, and Jo Koy.
“The Dancing with the Stars cast has been announced, ” Handler joked in her opening remarks. “It includes Chaz Bono, otherwise known as Chastity Bono [laughs] before she got her penis [laughs].”

In her five seasons as a Dancing with the Stars professional, Lacey Schwimmer has gone to the finals and been the first one out — but all eyes are on the ballroom babe this season because she is paired with Chaz Bono. A casting choice that has been both applauded and derided.
“It’s disappointing, ” Lacey tells TheInsider.com of the negative reactions. “No human is perfect, so why are they pointing out what they perceive to be an imperfection in someone else? It’s not cool. We’re all taught to not bully, or harass, and treat everyone as equals yet all these people are doing exactly the opposite.” Luckily for Lacey and Chaz, the supportive sounds are drowning out the negative noise. “At the end of the day, everyone is going to have a hater. I choose not to listen to it, because it’s ridiculous. To us, it’s more important to focus on the positive people.”
