Her manager, Brian Dickens, said there was no talk of delaying the album — the only question was whether Fantasia would be up to promoting it — “was she able to handle it.”

“Things that have been misconstrued in the media is that this was a publicity stunt, and that is in no way shape or form true, ” Dickens said.

Once she decided to push forward, the 26-year-old singer continued with plans to publicize the album.

She shrugs in frustration at the suggestion that the attempted suicide was a publicity stunt. She’s been criticized before, but it still gets her down.

Santana album launch draws stars

LAS VEGAS – It might not have been Supernatural. But it was definitely surreal.

To bang the drum for the new classic-rock covers CD Guitar Heaven (in stores and online Sept. 21), platinum-selling Woodstock icon Carlos Santana and golden-eared music mogul Clive Davis pulled out all the stops on Wednesday. They flew a few dozen reporters from around the globe into Sin City’s Hard Rock Hotel and Casino to listen to some of Guitar Heaven, meet and greet the musicians and makers, enjoy a little wining and dining, catch Santana and some of his Guitar Heaven contributors in concert — and generally savour the sort of old-school PR razzle-dazzle that used to be the norm when show biz still put on a show.

“I’m here to reaffirm what a label can provide, ” boldly asserted the 78-year-old Davis, currently chief creative officer with Sony Music. “This talk you hear about how things are going to change — that musicians are going to release albums online — it just ain’t so.”

Pickler has lost a few big country music awards to Swift, but could care less about that.

“We all work together, so it’s better to get along than not get along, ” said Pickler, who opens for Darius Rucker tonight at the Crawford County Fair.

Kristy Lee Cook is on the hunt

The show is sponsored by Browning, the firearms and outdoor-equipment giant whose name graced one of Cook’s favorite hats, which she wore during one of the Idol segments — despite rules banning contestants from wearing logos.

That moment, Cook says, initiated an arrangement between the singer and the company that eventually led to “Goin’ Country.”

“I never planned it, ” Cook says. “I never in a million years thought I’d have a hunting show from that.”

“Goin’ Country” is only four episodes old, with the fifth of eight episodes shot last winter set to air Sunday.

Is Chris Isaak the Final Piece in the ‘Idol’ Judge Puzzle?

“When I went in to interview with them, I said ‘Can we actually physically reprimand people for bad performances?’ They said ‘Chris, no, it’s just a TV show, ‘ Isaak told “Extra’s” Lauren Sanchez at a sound check for his Tuesday concert at L.A.’s Greek Theater. “That kind of let me down right there.”

The crooner also had some ideas on how the judges should interact. “I proposed this to them — and they never got back to me — but I said that maybe J.Lo could be a judge, and I wouldn’t talk as much as I would rub butter on her.”
