Alicia Keys vs. Fantasia Barrino

What I found to be most interesting is that Alicia Keys has been able to escape this type of media scrutiny in the mainstream press, even though she reportedly was engaged in a three-year affair with a married man, which ultimately resulted in the demise of the marriage. Keys also became pregnant and engaged to super producer Swizz Beatz while the man was separated but still married nonetheless. She then married Beatz weeks after his divorce was finalized. The black press have let both Fantasia and Keys have it for their indiscretions, but the mainstream media took to the Fantasia story like a rabid dog while ignoring the illicit actions of Keys.

‘American Idol’ To Refocus On Talent: 5 Possible Outcomes

The 10th season of Fox’s ‘American Idol’ has had, to say the least, a lot of speculation surrounding it, due to yet-to-be-specified chair-shuffling at the judges’ table, behind-the-scenes changes, and a slightly dimmed profile for the show.

But one thing has remained constant through all the tumult: the competition’s purpose, which is to find a singer who has enough charisma and charm to get audience members calling and texting (and, later, buying concert tickets and albums). That may be why Michael Ferrel, the CEO of ‘Idol’ owner CKX, said on a conference call Monday that this forthcoming season would “refocus… on the talent.”

Cowell: Judges overshadow singers

Simon Cowell has admitted X Factor contestants have not always enjoyed enough of the limelight because they have been overshadowed by the judges.

The TV mogul has filmed auditions for the seventh series of the hit show, which features guest judge Nicole Scherzinger.

He said: “Sometimes we have gotten into the habit, and obviously I’m partly responsible for this, of the judges’ personalities being talked about more than the contestants.

LEHIGH VALLEY MUSIC: Homecoming for Orianthi guitarist

Besides Lambert and his opening act, Allison Iraheta, there was another “American Idol” alum at the show.

Tyler Grady of Nazareth, who was in the Top 24 this season, was at the RiverPlace venue to take in the show. He drew so much attention – people actually lined up to get their photo taken with him –that security had to intervene and ask him to move out of the passageway.

Grady said he and his band, Wailing Waters, are preparing to head into the studio to record some new music.

Does ‘American Idol’ need an extreme makeover?

If you take the chocolate frosting and the creamy filling out of a Hostess Cup Cake, do you still have a Hostess Cup Cake?

Not even close.

If you take Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi out of “American Idol, ” do you still have “American Idol?”

Network TV special highlights Mississippi Gulf Coast

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) – The stage is set for stars like David Hasselhoff and American Idol’s Taylor Hicks to perform Tuesday night at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi.  It’s all part of a one-hour television special airing on the CW network August 27th.  The hope is to send the message that the coast is open for business in the months following the oil spill.

Monday afternoon, it was lights, camera and star power as pop artists like Drake Bell took the stage. Joining Bell were Disney channel stars Chris and Kyle Massey, country artist Ricky Skaggs and American Idol’s Ace Young.

Bo Bice will also perform tonight, along with Taylor Hicks.

Your First Look at Glee’s New Slushee-Centric Ad Campaign

This year’s promo campaign, which will start appearing on billboards, buses, and everywhere else next week, provides a cold, wet illustration for just how empowered New Directions has become since the show began last season, and the ads featured the universal hand gesture for “loser.” When the show began, the slushee was “a weapon to put the Glee kids down, ” says Fox marketing president Joe Earley, while by season’s end, our lovable losers had co-opted this weapon, dousing Mr. Schuester in the finale. Take back the slushee!
