Around 200 people gathered outside Juanita K. Hammons Hall Saturday to counter-protest a planned picket by the Westboro Baptist Church, but the Westboro group never showed up.

Local college students organized the counter protest on Facebook.

“Because they didn’t show up, instead of a protest, now its just a celebration, ” said organizer Adam Crawford. “It was a great way to get together and show the community what we are all about.”

Train (wreck) kept a-rollin’

IRVINE, Calif. — Backstage before an Aerosmith show, a sort of happy chaos reigns.

Then a new wrinkle to the evening’s preparation arrives with the breaking news that Tyler is rumored to be in the running for a judging spot on “American Idol.’’

When asked about the rumor, Hamilton, drummer Joey Kramer, Perry, and their manager (who remains separate from Tyler’s management) all profess ignorance, and you get the sense this is not the first time they’re hearing potential Tyler news from a third party. Perry tries to choose his words about the speculation carefully. “How shall we put this?’’ he says. “It’s an interesting rumor.’’

As the lights go down, four members of Aerosmith huddle together while Tyler preps elsewhere.

Big changes in store for ‘Idol’

Maybe they were expecting more from most of them, but after an epic battle the previous year between Adam Lambert and Kris Allen, there was bound to be some sort of letdown last season.

But no matter how many times they said these were the best contestants ever, they were hard-pressed to prove it week to week. Most I wouldn’t want to hear again, even those that I still remember.

In reality, the judges are only the second most crucial part of the audition process. There are all sorts of producers who do the real dirty work, wading through the tens of thousands of people who fill hotel ballrooms and arenas for the initial audition rounds. Those producers pick the good and the bad (for the comedy quotient) who get to return and sing for the judges.

Q&A: Siobhan Magnus talks American Idols LIVE!

With her quirky fashion sensibilities and shockingly assertive, post-Aretha Franklin take on Stevie Wonder’s “Living for the City, ” Siobhan Magnus emerged as an early contender on this year’s “American Idol, ” cementing her front-runner status two weeks later with those crazy high notes at the end of Franklin’s “Think.”

As fate would have it, the very notes that got her noticed would go on to spawn the backlash that saw Magnus finish sixth, behind the likes of Casey James and Aaron Kelly.

Idols’ bring Timeless tunes to fans

It’s fitting that Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard share a concert stage.

After all, they were the last two battling it out during 2003’s “American Idol” finale. Studdard took top honors, and Aiken ranked second.

That didn’t stop Aiken from racking up the hits, however, and becoming one of the biggest success stories to come out of the popular reality show.

In my library: Jayma Mays

“Glee” returns for a second season Sept. 21 and Jayma Mays, for one, can’t wait. “I feel sometimes I’m a fan more than part of the show, ” says the woman who plays saucer-eyed virgin Emma Pillsbury, who is in love with Glee club director Will Schuester. “We’ve got wonderful women characters on this show, and that’s a rarity — especially when you’ve got three men writing it!”

Expect John Stamos to shake things up next season, when he plays what Mays calls “my dentist-slash-boyfriend.”

“I feel like, maybe, the tables are turning, and Will will have to fight for Emma, more than vice versa, ” she tells The Post’s Barbara Hoffman. “I want her to be fought for a little bit!” Here’s what’s in Mays’ library.
