Aerosmith heads into Calgary amid band dispute – Guitarist Perry again threatens to replace vocalist Tyler

“I’m not going to sit around for two years waiting for him to come back to Aerosmith, ” Perry says. While the guitar hero admits that an Aerosmith minus Tyler “would be a different animal, ” he also wishes to continue playing with the other three members of the band. “(You’ve got) four guys that are great together, and if you find the right singer, there’s no reason you can’t go and entertain people, ” he says.

Asked about his thoughts on American Idol, the hit TV show that has become a threat to his beloved band, Perry pulls no punches.

“It’s a reality show designed to get people to watch that station and sell advertising, ” he says dismissively. “It’s one step above (Teenage Mutant) Ninja Turtles.

“I’ll tell you one thing, when we put this band together, this is not something that (Steven Tyler) would do, ” he adds, his voice filled with disappointment and frustration.

“It’s his business, but I don’t want Aerosmith’s name involved with it. We have nothing to do with it.”

  1. I am glad to hear that Matt will doing a radio tour to promote his single with Jim Brickman. I think that is a smart idea and will hopefully gain more airplay.

Also Anoop’s song “All is Fair (Crazy Love”)keeps moving up on the iheartradio site and is now #2 on the Top 20 on Demand songs on that site. Hopefully his song will get more attention.

  2. I didn’t really care for anoop during the season.. but those clips sounded great. Everyday I am more and more convinced that AI just doesn’t do a great job showcasing talent. They best get those song lists updated.

  3. A few days ago, one of the bloggers from AInow had done a video interview with Danny and they posted it on twitter and youtube this morning. I think this is a fun interview they did with Danny and his band. There is not a whole lot of new information but he does talk about some of his favorite foods, and being on tour, etc…

I was pleased that he has co-written music on his EP, including the “All is Fair” (“Crazy Love”) song. I think he did a nice job co-writing that song, plus it’s something that I can and have listened to more than once. I think it’s a nice song and that he sounds good on it.

I am glad that some of my favorites are putting out music, that I actually like and will listen to. Some of my favorites in the past haven’t always put out stuff that I liked. But Danny, and Anoop have put out stuff that I actually listen to more than once.

I do think sometimes we don’t really see contestants at their best on Idol. Sometimes it might be because of stuff like poor song choices, or their nerves getting the best of them. With Anoop, I think song choices played a role in why he didn’t go as far as he could have gone on AI.

But I definitely think he is talented and have some nice songwriting skills. And I am glad to see him trying to do something with his music. Hopefully he will get more opportunities to showcase his music.

  5. “It’s a reality show designed to get people to watch that station and sell advertising,” he says dismissively. “It’s one step above (Teenage Mutant) Ninja Turtles.

He’s right. People think it’s about finding a music star but it isn’t. This is why I never watched Idol until I stumbled across Adam…Curse that man sometimes!

“I’ll tell you one thing, when we put this band together, this is not something that (Steven Tyler) would do,” he adds, his voice filled with disappointment and frustration.

He’s right. Steven Tyler would never have done the show. It’s just a talent show really.

  6. Hehehe the band drama from Aerosmith is giving me the giggles…or maybe I’m just tired lol

  7. I would agree with Perry about Idol if this were 20 years ago. And thought the same thing about the show for a long time. But I think the record companies have narrowed their criteria for talent (and what’s going to sell) so much, that the show has actually been a way for unknowns who don’t necessarily fit the mold to get a leg up. I get the feeling people like Adam and Crystal B. wouldn’t have done it this way if they could avoid it, but time was ticking. While it’s still blatantly commercial, having edgier judges and people involved may actually attract and produce some more amazing talent.

  8. Have to admire Joe Perry for telling us exactly how he feels and I can understand his bitterness toward Tyler. If Tyler treats guys he’s been with for years like crap, I find him impossible to like. Sound like a lot of his not getting along with his band mates is just Tyler letting them know he is the star. I don’t how Tyler with his huge ego is going to work on the Idol panel. The best thing about the Simon, Paula and Randy panel was that they seemed to genuinely like one another.

  9. “It’s his business, but I don’t want Aerosmith’s name involved with it. We have nothing to do with it.”

So Perry doesn’t want Aerosmith’s name associated with Idol? But it’s OK to take the money from Disney for letting them use their name & a clip of their band in conjunction with the Rock N Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando. I suppose the fact that it’s Tyler getting the money and not the band that is the issue. ;)

ITA. At a time when women can’t get signed without being a size 2 and naked, and everybody has tight musical boxes in which they have to fit in order to even be considered for a record deal, I’m not going to be mad at people who resort to American Idol as a way to get attention. The show is flawed but it is one of the few avenues available to get in front of industry types on something close to your own terms. Going the ground up route is best if you have any business sense, but that does not work for everyone.

So Perry doesn’t want Aerosmith’s name associated with Idol? But it’s OK to take the money from Disney for letting them use their name & a clip of their band in conjunction with the Rock N Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando.

LOL. I know right. Aerosmith is a band that got accused of selling out regularly. Oh, the irony. :)

What it sounds like for the coming year is more judges drama which will take away the attention away from the contestants. As for Tyler, I can’t wait to see what he’s going to say, hopefully he will bring some straight forward honesty to the panel. That’s what I liked about Simon, is that most of the time he was right about the contestants chances on the show and afterwards. I think he’s realized that even though some of the idol finalist were terrific on the show, they really didn’t have much of a chance to be a star after the show was over. Hopefully with Tyler, they will get some honest assessments from a guy who actually had a career in the music business and was immensely successful.

  12. So Perry doesn’t want Aerosmith’s name associated with Idol? Hahaha, what you said. That indignation and “we’re too cool for Idol” thing seems to be used only when convenient… or they aren’t getting paid.

  13. “It’s a reality show designed to get people to watch that station and sell advertising,” he says dismissively. “It’s one step above (Teenage Mutant) Ninja Turtles.

Oh, please. Didn’t stop Perry from allowing a song he wrote to be sung on the show. I guess that makes him one step above the theme song writer for (Teenage Mutant) Ninja Turtles. Or maybe it’s only okay when he’s getting the paycheque.

“I’ll tell you one thing, when we put this band together, this is not something that (Steven Tyler) would do,” he adds, his voice filled with disappointment and frustration.

Please excuse my typos. My eyes just rolled out of my eyes onto the floor and I have to find them.

Aerosmith formed in 1969. That’s 41 years ago. What kind of voodoo pact did these guys make? Most bands don’t even last that long. I don’t think you get to whine 41 years later that one of the band members wants to moonlight at another job.

“It’s his business, but I don’t want Aerosmith’s name involved with it. We have nothing to do with it.”

Oh, poor baby. Tyler appearing on Idol is going to hurt Perry’s precious rock cred. I think the whining might hurt him more. There is no crying in Rock bands (or should I say “Cryin” in honour of his song he allowed to be sung on the damn show). Just keep kicking the people down the ladder in the head, Perry. If Slash can mentor on the show, it’s not that much of a career killer. Making a big deal about it only makes it worse.

Steven Tyler is 62. Maybe he doesn’t want to endlessly tour anymore. Maybe he just wants to be able to sit in his favourite chair and watch his favourite cartoons while eating his wheaties when he gets up at 2 pm in the afternoon.

  14. Doesn’t Adam have an interview on Kidd Kraddick radio show this morning? I seem to have lost the posts that had the link. Anyone have it?

  15. “It’s his business, but I don’t want Aerosmith’s name involved with it. We have nothing to do with it.”

Oh, one more thing. It’s OK to get paid for the use of their songs on Idol too. “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing”, & “Dream On” anyone? Isn’t that having their name involved with the show? … But he doesn’t want Aerosmith’s name associated with it now, cause it’s just Tyler? It sounds like feuding to me.

  16. ets step into planet reality for just one moment here ok folks. Joe Perry is right about American Idol in a way it’s a tv show and gets majority of money from advertisement and selling time slots. American Idol is an entertainment tv show that’s all if it creates a major star a bonus.Simple terms most watch for entertainment.

I think everybody knows its just a TV show… that fact comes up all the time here. And we SURE know the alum don’t always turn into superstars and musical innovators. LOL

I think it’s more the “how can he lower himself to become part of… THAT” attitude, coming from AEORSMITH of all people, king of the corporate bands LOL, whose music gets sung on the show with regularity, that is getting the major eyeroll here. Dude, y’all ain’t the Rolling Stones, nowutimsayin’? :)

ETA: And I’m reminded above that his ass has actually appeared on the show more than once! Lord, Steve. SHUT UP. LOL

Now if it was Kings of Leon or Arcade Fire or The Black Keys, etc… that would make more sense for them to say something like that with a straight face and expect no one to laugh at them. :)

Doesn’t Adam have an interview on Kidd Kraddick radio show this morning? I seem to have lost the posts that had the link. Anyone have it?

Also someone posted on the headlines yesterday a twitt from a canadian radio station talking about a BIG Adam announcement for today at 8am… Any word on that?

  18. No big deal about Joe Perry reaction, he’s just pissed that Steven Tyler did this in the middle of their tour.
The funniest thing is that he appeared on the show already so he can’t be that afraid for their rock cred.

  19. Lets step into planet reality for just one moment here ok folks. Joe Perry is right about American Idol in a way it’s a tv show and gets majority of money from advertisement and selling time slots. American Idol is an entertainment tv show that’s all if it creates a major star a bonus.Simple terms most watch for entertainment.

I can paraphrase what he just said and be equally correct.

“Aerosmith is a band designed to get people to buy songs and sell merchandise at concerts,” he says dismissively. “It’s one step above Menudo.”

I’m sure Perry would be thrilled with that comparison.

Yes, Idol is nothing but a cheesy television show, but I reject that Perry is too good for cheesy television. Dude didn’t have a problem being part of the theme song for one of the cheesiest movies ever made. His whining is idiotic. He doesn’t have a cheesy leg to stand on. And AI isn’t that bad. The rubicon of rock gawds on reality shows was crossed eons ago and on much tackier shows. Heck, Idol has had somebody from Journey on their panel for the past 9 years.

    ETA:

I remember when Joe Perry played on Idol twice, once with Kelly Clarkson and the other time with Sanjaya, lol.

LOL. And as far as I know, Tyler did Perry the courtesy of not throwing a protracted freak-out about how Perry polluted the shades of Aerosmith by appearing with Sanjaya. Perry has even less of a cheesy leg to stand on than I thought.

  20. I guess that makes him one step above the theme song writer for (Teenage Mutant) Ninja Turtles.

LOL! I like that. He’s so full of crap.

Let’s step into planet reality for just one moment here ok folks. Joe Perry is right about American Idol in a way it’s a tv show and gets majority of money from advertisement and selling time slots.

Of course it is. I think everyone knows that, and should enjoy it as such. And if you get a new favorite artist out of it, GREAT! This is why I find it amusing/frustrating/disturbing that the fanwars are so intense and go on forever. It’s a TV show, but some people treat it like they’re nursing the wounds of being defeated in a war. Heh.

I think it’s more the “how can he lower himself to become part of… THAT” attitude, coming from AEORSMITH of all people, king of the corporate bands LOL, whose music gets sung on the show with regularity, that is getting the major eyeroll here.

Yep. Trying to say you’re too good for the show and that it would be lowering to have your name associated with it would be a little more believable from someone who has not had their songs used to the point that I never want to hear them again (I’m looking at you, Armageddon song) and has performed/appeared on the show. Just whine about what you really want to whine about – Tyler taking this job means that your band loses $$ because they can’t tour. I mean, it’s legitimate if they weren’t aware of what’s going on to be upset about *that*. But Joe Perry trying to whine about cred is just kinda hilarious.

  21. Now if it was Kings of Leon or Arcade Fire or The Black Keys, etc… that would make more sense for them to say something like that with a straight face and expect no one to laugh at them.

That reminds me, I need to go spend more $$. I need some Black Keys music. Any album recommendations, Black Keys fans? Done through MJs link once again of course.

And yes, that was what I was thinking. If you were a band with any “cred” in the first place…

  22. Just whine about what you really want to whine about – Tyler taking this job means that your band loses $$ because they can’t tour. I mean, it’s legitimate if they weren’t aware of what’s going on to be upset about *that*. But Joe Perry trying to whine about cred is just kinda hilarious.

Yep. Totally agree. If he wanted to complain about lack of tour revenue, it would be a much more legitimate complaint than his losing cred excuse.

No big deal about Joe Perry reaction, he’s just pissed that Steven Tyler did this in the middle of their tour.

But isn’t the tour scheduled to end before Tyler’s commitment to Idol starts? He just won’t be available to tour while the show is in session. How bad are these guy’s financial managers that they still need tour. Surely it’s all gravy by this point?

  23. Perry apparently is getting no sympathy here. Personally, I think Tyler handled this so poorly that how could Perry not be bitter. Why couldn’t Tyler have been decent about it and discussed it with the band instead of them first hearing about it in the media? Even after it became public knowledge, he didn’t discuss with them how it would affect the band’s future. It wasn’t necessary to handle it the way Tyler did and IMO, he started the whole mess. I have no idea how you could work with people for years and not give a crap about them. Joe Perry may look whiny and silly but Tyler is a self centered jerk and showed no respect to his band and I think that is worse.

  24. Tinawina-sometimes I wonder if they know its just a show oh well..Steven Tylor can do what he wants this ain’t grade school and Joe is acting like the latter threw sand in his face.Like Jeeze..

  25. Tinawina-sometimes I wonder if they know its just a show oh well..Steven Tylor can do what he wants this ain’t grade school and Joe is acting like the latter threw sand in his face.Like Jeeze..

LMAO! I know right.. the power of cheesy karaoke is undeniable… you must either love it or hate it with wild abandon. Heh. Something about those pointy poses. I MUST post too much about this silliness! I can’t help it! LOL **needs rehab**

That reminds me, I need to go spend more $$. I need some Black Keys music. Any album recommendations, Black Keys fans?

I like them all. For me they are one of those bands that even when I don’t like a song, its still interesting. You should give some songs a listen on YouTube and see what you like.

  26. Perry apparently is getting no sympathy here. Personally, I think Tyler handled this so poorly that how could Perry not be bitter.

I don’t have a problem with Perry complaining that Tyler did him wrong. Perry’s getting no sympathy from me because his whining is focused on how far Idol is beneath him. He’s focusing on the wrong target.

He probably knows that if he starts complaining about Tyler, he’ll lose rock cred with his male fans (who tend to be dismissive of such complaints) so he’s all up on his high horse about how far beneath him Idol is. It’s ridiculous given his personal history. He deserves to be mocked for the tack he’s taking. If you don’t have the balls to complain about the real source of your problem, then shut up.

  27. Perry apparently is getting no sympathy here.

Well, to be more specific, Perry is getting no sympathy because he’s whining about losing cred. If he just said that they were losing tour $$ because Tyler is a jerk who didn’t bother to tell them his plans… fine. I don’t think anyone thinks Tyler is a saint. I just know that I personally find it hilarious that Perry is acting like he’s too cool for Idol… and that does, admittedly, dull any sort of sympathy I might have for the guy.

  28. I like them all.

Haha, did MJ tell you to say that so I’d spend *all* my money through her link? Totally just kidding :) — I’ve liked or at least been intrigued by everything I’ve heard so far so I’ll be picking up a bit of music, I do believe.

I know right.. the power of cheesy karaoke is undeniable… you must either love it or hate it with wild abandon. Heh. Something about those pointy poses.

Hey, well, at least if the show is going to make us all nuts – can we get good group numbers again that are not so lip synched and gimme pointy poses? I was just (yes, I know, I admit it) watching a video the other day of one of the Season 7 group numbers and they just threw themselves into it and made it fun to watch, even if it was utterly ridiculous. Either get rid of the group numbers or make them fun again, Papa Nigel. I’ll tolerate your creepy grin and meddling ways if you make it fun.

  29. Great interview, found out Adams tour will end beginning of December then he will do radio show concerts in NY and Philly. Hope he does the z100 jingle ball, that would be awesome!

  30. What it sounds like for the coming year is more judges drama which will take away the attention away from the contestants

Well unless Joe storms the stage during a live broadcast and kicks Steven’s ass, or vice versa, I wouldn’t worry about this. As a matter of fact, maybe that will goose the ratings. Two old guys fighting FTW!

  31. Joe Perry is probably going to be asked about this in every interview and will probably be interviewed more because of the controversy. He needs to read this blog for better answers. LOL

I’d like to know if Tyler has ever been asked about why he didn’t discuss the situation with the band.

  32. Pulled this out of an article MJ posted in last night’s headlines:

At one point, “Idol’s” David Archuleta, Terry Fator, Jack Jones, Norm Crosby, former Frank Sinatra music director Vinnie Falcone and Matt Goss were all present. … I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a kid more thrilled than when MDA National Goodwill Ambassador Abbey Umali met Archuleta, who caused the biggest stir backstage.

    Las Vegas Sun

  33. December then he will do radio show concerts in NY and Philly. Hope he does the z100 jingle ball

Ohhh I’ll have to buy tickets for it then!

  34. Hope he does the z100 jingle ball

I hope so too. If I recall correctly he was there last year, but only to introduce Taylor Swift. And during his backstage interview he looked pretty sad not to be able to perform at MSG. Things have gotten so much better for him this year I think it would be a special event for him.

  35. I was at Aerosmiths concert last Saturday, and I thought Steven Tyler and Joe Perry were very friendly to each other even hugging at one point between songs and they all did at the end. Maybe that interview was before that and the havesi ce worked things out. I don’t se why if even if he did the show why he couldn’t still work with the band

  36. Cool that Joan Jett and The Blackhearts are opening for Aerosmith. Except that I love Joan Jett and am not a fan of Aerosmith. They have a few songs I like, but I’ve never been into what I call scream rock.

The Tyler/Perry feud is amusing. As many have pointed out, Perry is being a real hippocrit here.

  37. From Adam’s UK publicist, his UK dates will be end of November and are being announced and going for sale this week.

shoshannastone OK Lambert, Lambrtis, Glamberts etc, look out 4 your pre-sale email tomorrow morning, but make sure you sign up to Adam’s official site 2day

  38. GO MATT G!!! Wo hooo!! Now if he’d just detach himself from the Midwest, maybe I’d go see him live.

  39. Oh, LOL at that Adam/Scissor Sisters video! That was good and rather hot actually. That Kidd Kraddick interview was very good. The interviewers all seemed to think very highly of Adam and it was good to see their support. I know Dallas will get on board eventually. Texas and Arizona are veeeery conservative states, so oh well. The best part was having Neil come out, we don’t get to see Adam and his brother interact much. Adam looked very handsome and relaxed.

  40. Is there Part 2 to the Kraddick interview? I want to see the Neil footage.

The Scissor Sisters is a hoot.

  41. Seems like every couple months Joe Perry goes public with some new Steven Tyler complaints and talks about how Aerosmith could totally work with a different frontman. AI is cheesy, totally beneath you, how could he, blah blah blah. Dream On, dude…dream until your dream comes true.

  42. Anybody read the Billboard cover story on Dr. Luke? There’s a part that talks about Since U Been Gone and how at 1st they were hesitant to give it to somebody from AI and Clive Davis has his comments about how that and Behind These Hazel Eyes took Kelly to the next level without giving Kelly credit for what she brought to the songs. But anyway here’s another quote that’s relevant because doesn’t Dr. Luke have credits on Adam and Alli’s albums?

Possibly because his six-figure-per-track salary puts him out of range for some acts, until they realize they’re in a pinch, at which time labels may take stock of Beaven’s contention that the odds of Luke producing a No. 1 single “are somewhere between 1-2 and 1-3.”

If Dr. Luke is up there in the six figures then you probably figure that some of the other big names like Max Martin and maybe even Ryan Tedder are going to be very expensive too right?

  43. Seems like every couple months Joe Perry goes public with some new Steven Tyler complaints and talks about how Aerosmith could totally work with a different frontman. AI is cheesy, totally beneath you, how could he, blah blah blah. Dream On, dude…dream until your dream comes true.

This is so true. And then they’re pushing each other off the stage, going to rehab, blah, blah, blah. Sad that such a legendary band has to resort to such cheap tricks for publicity.

  44. It kind of makes me sick to my stomach that just a few people seem to be writing all of the hit pop songs on the radio these days. It’s like a form of payola IMO. Also, it’s doing nothing to expand anyone’s mind, when everything sounds the same and comes from the same brain. Ugh.

Hell, what else is new? LOL. They are just empty, bland singing vessels, don’t you know? Anyone can do what they do. **insert eyeroll here**

If Dr. Luke is up there in the six figures then you probably figure that some of the other big names like Max Martin and maybe even Ryan Tedder are going to be very expensive too right?

My guess is the answer is yes. Or, perhaps, hell yes. LOL

  46. If Dr. Luke is up there in the six figures then you probably figure that some of the other big names like Max Martin and maybe even Ryan Tedder are going to be very expensive too right?

Most likely. Tedder might not be quite as high as Martin and Dr. Luke (he hasn’t had as many years of solid hit-making, but who knows? He certainly has a lot of recent hits and that might count for more).

I remember reading something about Timbaland getting North of $200K for every song he produces. He might have even sang it in one of his songs. Stargate is another big producing duo that rake in the bucks.

They can of course agree to work for less, but if the producer is well known with the general public, odds are that they are probably pretty expensive.

ETA: Sorry, I got the amount wrong. Timbaland claims he gets “half a mil for [his] beats” in “Give It To Me”.

  47. Yup, no surprise there. Dr Luke, Max Martin, Ryan Tedder and other well known producers make ear candy that sells millions of songs, ringtones and videos.

I know that Dr Luke produces Ke$ha’s songs, how many millions of singles did she sell? And she is Dr Luke’s artist, she is signed to Dr Luke’s RCA imprint.

Regarding Kelly Clarkson: We all know that her first album was quite different than the second one. She went from pop/rnb to pop/rock. A big change was made. I think that Dr Luke and Max Martin helped her a lot, but that doesn’t mean that Kelly deserves no credit, she recorded and performed their songs and she also “sold” them with her talent and image.

  48. Especially for Top 40 songs, hot producers can be more responsible for the success of the song than the artists. Since Dr. Luke and Max Martin worked on Adam and Allison’s album, I assume those albums were expensive to produce (unless they got the discounted price). ;) I know Martin’s also worked with Kelly Clarkson and Jordin Sparks, not sure about the other Idols. Tedder worked with Adam, Kelly Clarkson, Jordin among others.

I guess Dr. Luke is still the biggest name around. Although the guy who produced both Airplanes and Em’s song ILTWYL is breathing down his neck (blanking on the name).

  49. Well, RCA has already hooked Adam up with Max Martin for the next album, so they must feel it was a beneficial relationship and with WWFM at 1.5 m downloads and still in the 120’s and 130’s on itunes and IIHY at over 300k and in the 20s and 30s on itunes and radio play increasing in both hac and top 40 formats, I’d say they are probably right. FYE only sold a little over 300k in downloads but was licensed for use by E! And fox and more uses outside US, not to mention its sales outside of the US so not sure if the Dr. Luke connection was successful or not, but maybe.

  50. Tedder did something with Cook for this next album if I remember his tweets right. There is also speculation that he worked with Max Martin since he went to where he lives to do some work on his album…Sweden right?

  51. I didn’t realize Dr.Luke produced FYE. Did he do any other tracks on Adam’s album? I’m amazed Jive brought him on board for Allison’s album. They really had alot of faith in her.

  52. I hope RCA didn’t pay Dr. Luke the first rate price for producing FYE. The production is not even his average quality. There are no hot beat whatsoever, and it sounds every bit like a rush job.

TBH, the production on most tracks on FYE album are subpar, especially those electro/dance tracks. Even average electro albums in Europe sound much hotter and current than the ones on FYE.

  53. Wow, I just read that Dr. Luke is Jewish. For some reason, I thought he was a Swede like Max Martin. And producing both Katy Perry #1s ain’t a bad summer for him either. He’s really worth every dime if he can guarantee a smash hit 1 out every 3 times. That’s pretty amazing.

  54. No other tracks were produced by Dr. Luke. He and Claude Kelly wrote FYE and Dr. Luke produced it.

  55. I guess Dr. Luke is still the biggest name around. Although the guy who produced both Airplanes and Em’s song ILTWYL is breathing down his neck (blanking on the name).

Alex da Kid is his name.

  56. Although the guy who produced both Airplanes and Em’s song ILTWYL is breathing down his neck (blanking on the name).

Alex da Kid. He’s currently working with Avril Lavigne.

But even after three hot singles? He has a way to go to catch up to Dr. Luke (even though I think “California Girls” was his Tedder moment: Some of the rest of them at least sound vaguely like new songs; CG sounded exactly like everything else he’d worked on this year).

  57. What happened to Gaga’s producer? Red One I think was the name. For awhile there, he was supposed to be working on FYE as well but I guess that never happened. Thanks for the name of the producer of Airplanes.

BTW, I think Dr. Luke and Max Martin get deals where the songs they do on Idol albums HAVE to be released as singles. No coincidence that they’re responsible for the all the singles off FYE so far. And Dr. Luke wrote Allison’s first single (don’t know about the others).

  58. What happened to Gaga’s producer? Red One I think was the name. For awhile there, he was supposed to be working on FYE as well but I guess that never happened.

Yeah, Adam and RedOne started working together but then Adam had to go on tour and there were scheduling conflicts, I think.

RedOne still works for Lady GaGa, Also, he produced Alexandra Burke’s new song, “Start Without You”.

    LOL What’s with Adam’s hair?

It´s shaved on the sides! I know, I know even between us fans the haircut is having some discussion :) pages and pages actually. I personally liked! :)

  60. Tedder did something with Cook for this next album if I remember his tweets right. There is also speculation that he worked with Max Martin since he went to where he lives to do some work on his album…Sweden right?

Cook did demos with Tedder (and someone in Sweden, who may or may not have been Martin), but he picked Serletic to produce the album. Many of these folks are producers and writers, although Dr. Luke is more likely to produce without writing than write without producing. I don’t know what their writing fee is for a non-produced track, but I would assume it’s less (and probably significantly so) than for a produced one. (And yes, I assume that they get an upfront fee, not just royalties.)

In the case of FYE, or Animal, or Teenage Dream, etc., it didn’t matter, because they did both.

  61. didn’t realize Dr.Luke produced FYE. Did he do any other tracks on Adam’s album? I’m amazed Jive brought him on board for Allison’s album. They really had alot of faith in her.

Allison got a song from Max Martin and went to Sweden to do so, but she didn’t get a Dr. Luke song. And Dr.Luke only produced FYE the song, no other tracks on the album.

And Max Martin was already one of the producers for the demo of WWFM for Pink, yes? So he worked on the full studio version for Adam, IIRC. Which makes sense to me.

And yes, FYE didn’t do that well in the US, certainly not to Dr. Luke standards, but seemed to have sold some here (though no where what a hit is) and seems to have done okay overseas overall. Plus possible liscensing if for E! and was it Showtime for one of their promos. Not sure how that works. So maybe they made enough to break even on that one. lol.

And yeah, I doubt that Tedder charges the Dr. Luke or even Max Martin rates. His track record isn’t as good, and they use him a lot for the AI albums, so if he was spendy, I don’t see them doing that. They strike me as too cheap for that.

The Red One thing didn’t happen due to timing issues. There was talk of it, but in the end, there ended up being no songs produced with Adam and him, IIRC. I know I was bummed.

  62. Oh and I can’t stand the hair. Adam needs stop shaving his head. It looks dorky. He’s just lucky it grows back so fast, so perhaps soon, it will be able to outgrow that crappy, stupid-looking cut.

  63. Lehigh Valley Music ranks the shows at this year’s Allentown Fair and two idols are mentioned.
#2 Keith Urban & Kris Allen
#5 Lady Antebellum & Danny Gokey

Both idols were said to be good. I will take that for opening acts.

  64. I’m reading this Dr Luke article. I know that he and Max Martin know what they are doing (Wikipedia info says it all). I didn’t know Dr Luke worked on B.o.B’s “Magic”. Wow. Dr Luke owns Billboard HOT 100 right now.

He knows he is good and his work is not cheap, but he also wants to do something for the artists that he works with. He wants them to be successful and have hits. And not just for his own glory.

lol jpfan- it is possible to be both Jewish and Swedish at the same time! ;-)

  66. Max Martin wrote and produced FIBOU and Just Like You for Allison. No doctor Luke for her. She did have Kevin Rudolph too.

  67. Is there actual video footage of the Kidd Kraddick interview? I mean not just videos of the audio but actual footage?

  68. Apparently Carrie’s having a live press conference tomorrow at 10 AM Eastern and it’s going to be broadcast online too. That came out of the blue and it’s really short notice so I don’t know what it’s about. Maybe it’s to do with the 2nd leg of the Play On tour which is starting on September 25th.

    Announcement

Hey Carrie fans! Be a part of her exclusive press conference— live tomorrow at 10 am EST! Stay tuned for more info and a link to the live webcast!

You can watch part of it on their youtube channel.

  70. Great interview! So cute to hear Neil and Adam together. Wow, those are two articulate guys. Not a single “um”. Very sweet.
I loved Neils’ response to adam saying they were natural opposites: “Yes I do naturally oppose you”.
